Learn rigging, nCloth, nHair and if possible Yeti and MEL/python scripting as much as you can at home. Get online courses if you can. Usually a rig by you + cloth (~3 solvers)+hair sim + a yeti groom and/or scripts are usually a good way to get into intern or junior position. Look for smaller studios first doing cinematics and trailers, they are easier to get into. Spend 1-2 years there, and if you want and you are "talented" you can likely to get into a bigger feature VFX studio after.

It varies from show to show, I understand crunch times for deliveries but when your crew is working 60+ hours for more than 3 months because of bad client notes or indecisiveness I think studios should have more power to hold the clients accountable.
Be prepared to see the shitty side of film making - watching a large group of talented hard working people get burned out because of indecisive leadership (both internally and client side). I doubt anyone can leave this industry without being a but jaded, at least in production. It can be a really fun but sometimes thankless job

Learn as much as you can in your first year or two. Make your mistakes early and definitely work out personal boundaries. Under promise and over deliver. If you are working a lot overtime reconsider if it is worth it and if another studio might be a better option. Make sure you take at least one night a week even during heavy OT for a sports team, your life partner, book club, personal time or whatever. Don’t give this night up easily- it will help keep you sane and help you practice having boundaries with producers/ coords/ leads pressuring you to stay.

Perhaps have an ‘Other’ option with comment box for the Overtime question. I do think Overtime is a huge problem in our industry- particularly at certain studios. It is insane and causes a lot of people to choose between a career or a family.

Personally I moved to a studio that does Overtime maybe for 2-3 weeks every 4 months. I’m totally happy doing that and having the extra money to pay for holidays and bills. I look forward to those few weeks. But the months of end are unsustainable no matter the $$.

My feelings towards overtime depend on the studio. Some studios encourage you to leave on time as much as you can, but will ask you to work overtime when busy. Other studios pressure you to work late every day and have no respect for your personal life. It's the latter that I think is a problem, especially when the overtime work is unpaid.
