Coggan Chart
4
5
This is a multi-dimensional calculator to rank you as a cyclist, assuming your power data is reasonably accurate.
6
7
It follows in the footsteps of the well known Andy Coggan table of w/kg (shown right). We found this table has some issues regarding its flexibility of its columns (4x only ; and fixed) and its very high bar for 'normal' cyclists who often fall off the bottom of the chart. It also seems to have over-strong weighting for sprints / sprinters.
8
9
Method: we started by remaking the table with a normal distribution of 2000 cyclists who had uploaded power curve data with power meters (not specifically pros etc).....then we normalized it for various demographic groups, then remapped it to any time-point eg the original chart was 5seconds for sprint, but here you can use 1s-59s for sprint. Next we found and tested it against a validation dataset of 3000 riders from golden cheetah users and results seem to be valid. Finally, we made some assumptions based on the data, smoothed it a little, worked out the qualitatative label and created a simple "rider report". TaDah!

Step-by-Step
13
14
Enter your demographics = age, gender and weight
15
Enter your power curve points x 6 = time and power for each of these ranges (both time and power can be edited)
16
Wait 10-15s and then read your results.

Limitations
19
20
Results are only as accurate as your testing and your power meter!
21
Max power should be your recent PR for each time
22
Put a similar effort in for each of the 6 time periods
23
Label eg "cat 2" remain somewhat subjective but gives a ball park
24
Train your weaknesses as well as your strengths!
25
There is more to cycling than just your power numbers!
