It starts with exposure to Singapore's entrepreneurial scene and concludes with this 2-week trip. We felt the students would benefit greatly from exposure to a variety of Singaporean friends and professionals in the Bay Area.

We are jointly organising a mixer with these NOC students. Light refreshments and drinks will be served. The Merlion Restaurant in Cupertino has generously agreed to open early for this event before the start of dinner.

We aim to take you beyond the usual recounting of experiences in our panel discussion. Our moderator, Peter Lawrence, who recently published a rather philosophical book titled, The Happy Minimalist, will lead the panelists to reveal how the confluence of the humanities, business, and technology inspired them towards their entrepreneurship journey. We'll dive into the combination of art, human interaction and culture that shapes their firm's markets and their respective product design choices, and seek their opinions on the kinds of societal changes that is within reach of their endeavours. As a keep-sake of this event, you'll also receive a compilation we've prepared of the resources available for you to start your very own entrepreneurship journey. A very interesting evening awaits you, over some delicious food and drinks! 11/13/1212.00 pm - 2.00 pmDBL Mr Kwa Chong SengMarriott San MateoAs you may have heard, the Overseas Singaporean Unit (OSU) is having an event on Sunday, lunch time, Nov 13. Come hear a business leader from Singapore speak, ask questions, and network with your fellow Singaporeans, over a buffet lunch.

We've put in some feedback that having some provision for kids at these events would be helpful. There will be a kid's corner at this event, which we hope makes it easier for some of you to fit in this event (presumably "Business Attire" doesn't apply to the kids).

OSU puts in a fair bit of effort to bring these speakers over to our part of the world, and they support SingaporeConnect in our activities, most recently the Entrepreneurship Panel Discussion last Friday. It would be great to have a hearty show of support at their events. We hope to see you all there.

4/1/12??Singapore Yacht part of Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht RaceOakland HarborWe have received the late notice (but good news) that "Singapore", one of ten international yachts competing in the Clipper 11-12 Round The World Yacht Race, is expected to arrive in Oakland early on April 1.  Among the various Singaporeans who are participating at different stages of the competition,  19-year old Sherlyn Chen will arrive with the yacht in Oakland.  "Singapore", sponsored by Keppel Corp is presently in second position on the leg to Oakland.  "J World", in partnership with Oakland's "Waterfront Hotel" and "Miss Pearl's" restaurant, is hosting a welcome party to greet the sailors aboard - no matter what hour they arrive into port and would like to invite all Singaporeans to join in the celebration.

Please help disseminate this information to your members who may be interested to support our "namesake" yacht and crew!  Please email RSVPs and queries to the host of the welcome committee, Mr Barry Demak, at bdemak@gmail.com with a cc to us at the Singapore Consulate-General.  You can obtain more information on the race at the websites below. ?1 (but did not manage to see yacht as notice was sent too late, yacht actually showed up on 3/31)YESSGC SHAREWelcome Committee

NUSEA is the NUS Entrepreneurship Association (NUSEA) - a group of entrepreneurial students under the National University of Singapore College (NUS) in Silicon Valley internship program. They are based in the Silicon Valley area to learn about entrepreneurship through working in high-tech startups while taking entrepreneurship classes in Stanford over the course of the year.

Throughout their stay in the Valley, they have been infected by the entrepreneurial energy buzzing around and have been churning up a few venture ideas of our own. SingaporeConnect is pleased to invite you to hear these students present their ideas in the form of a "VC pitch", and hear feedback from a group of diverse panelists, including seasoned entrepreneurs and those familiar with the eco-system. You are also welcome to lend your expertise and ask the students some tough questions or share invaluable feedback.

This is a not to be missed experience for Singaporeans who may have grown up in a concrete jungle, or those currently living in the Bay Area for a short while. The annual cherry picking season does not last long!

Brentwood is located in the inland area of the East Bay, which still has a concentration of farms. If you are coming in from the south via the scenic Vasco Road, you will go through the Altamont Pass where one of largest wind mill farms in the country is located.

When we are done picking, we will have a dimsum lunch at the East Bay and share our cherry tales, or play Fruit Ninja...
