Water-Energy Nexus (WEN) Registry participants may seek verification services for the water sector performance metrics they report alongside their annual emissions inventory. Water sector performance metrics communicate the emissions intensity of water and/or wastewater deliveries for a given Reporting Year (RY). Performance metrics can be used by other reporting entities to calculate the indirect supply chain emissions associated with their acquired and/or purchased water or wastewater services.

Verifier review is required before performance metrics may be publicly disclosed in the WEN Registry. Guidance for reviewing the water-related data used to calculated performance metrics can be found in the Verifying Water-Related Data Guidance document. This matrix is an additional reference tool provided to verification bodies (VBs) to assist them in completing a check that water-related data both (1) adheres to the WEN Registry Protocol reporting standards and (2), where relevant, is consistent with data reported to other programs. The matrix outlines data sets commonly reported by members of the water sector in California.
