yesThe beach (physical self) is a place to connect with the ocean (the soul) and the sunset (our present moment) is a connection between the day that has passed (our past) and the new day to come (our future). Sunset at the beach is connection to the whole self and opportunity to begin again.$50 donate

Our Lady of the Annunciation: Patron of Texas
Acrylic
jaclynmwarren@gmail.com
No, president of LATA
Humans were made for connections; connections with God, connections with community, and connections with one another. As a Catholic, this idea is central to my belief. In times of distress and difficulty, I connect with the Saints for guidance and intersession. When praying for the people of Texas, those whose lives and homes have been so suddenly altered by storms, it made sense to connect with Our Lady of the Annunciation, the Patron of the state.

As I painted Our Lady, I could not help but meditate upon her receiving the news that she would be the one to bear salvation for others. Despite any fear, Mary takes immeasurable pleasure in knowing that she is part of God’s plan of healing. Like Mary at the moment of the Annunciation, I am a woman who is delighted to know that I can have a role in bringing healing to others.

These mandalas were created with dripped watercolor on wet paper, allowing the colors to comingle and bleed together. Movement of the paper, blown air, and sprinkled salt further transformed the paint. The process of the materials interacting on the paper mirrors the transformation and development that occurs in all of our lives through the coming together of different influences and experiences. The result is full of complexity, imperfection, and beauty.
