|Blue brain project|
Blue brain project was founded in 2005 as an attempt to create a synthetic brain. The aim of the project is not only to completely understand function and anatomy of the brain, but also to discover the essence of consciousness. The project uses a supercomputer to run a special software called “NEURON software” which creates a stimulation based on artificial neural networks and realistic models of neurons. The project started with the stimulation of the neocortical column of the rat, and is now progressing further.

|Optogenetics in retinal degeneration|
Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) in the human is a progressive, currently irreversible neural degenerative disease usually caused by gene defects that disrupt the function or architecture of the photoreceptors. While RP can initially be a disease of photoreceptors, there is increasing evidence that the inner retina becomes progressively disorganized as the outer retina degenerates. Optogenetics, a novel tool thatuses genetic methods combined with optical technology to achieve gain or loss of function within neuronal circuits, has the potential to at least partially restore vision in patients who are affected with RP, first clinical research is on its way.
