9/26/2022Egg Inc.AndroidIncremental business builderSo far I have 28,000 chickens and most of them have one of two types of hats.4Press button, make chickens. Chickens make eggs, you get money to make more chickens. Why is it so fun to see the numbers go UP?! I liked the pacing. There was always something new popping up for me to click on or acquire—boxes of goodies, stacks of cash, golden eggs, and flying drones I can knock out of the sky and loot. :)

9/26/2022Gato RobotoPCMetroidvania-liteLava rat boss4MEOW. I like what the dev did with a two-toned color palette and minimal sounds. The concept itself was super strong. A CAT in a MECH SUIT.
4
9/26/2022Penguin IsleAndroidIdle base builder...with penguinsI put in two expansions to the Antarctic base2I only unlocked two species of penguin. There were some other fun critters too (though there shouldn't be a polar bear at the south pole). I think the main draw of the game was penguins. Penguins are cute. Other than that, the content felt sort of like a generic village. There was a fishing penguin, and a gardening penguin, a mining penguin, a crafting penguin, etc. Gosh the penguins are CUTE though!
5
9/26/2022Secret Cat ForestAndroidIdle cat collectorI attracted four cats1Lovely atmosphere, but there wasn't a lot of depth to the gameplay (or at least I couldn't figure it out). I'm not one for too much tutorialization but I could have used a guide, or at least a slower, more detailed onboarding.

9/26/2022RedecorAndroidCreative, competitive, simLive service game3Interior design sim. Clients give you jobs, you do the jobs, you get paid, and you use the cash to buy better materials for your designs. Players vote on each others' work. Pretty neat, and fun if you're focused on the creativity more than the competition. Without paying for additional in-game currency, you're at a pretty steep disadvantage in the design competitions because the cheap stuff looks like crap. I sent them some $$ and I'll probably keep it on my system to play once in a while.

9/26/2022Game Dev TycoonAndroidIdle business management set alongside video game historyGot to the Oasis release (the stand-in for SEGA Genesis)2My little developer was stuck in his little cube of an office, grinding away. The gameplay itself wasn't super fun—I felt like it was too directed, and I didn't have much space for creativity. It felt more like a puzzle with a prescribed solution than a simulator with different strategies for success. I think the "journey through video game history" was a neat twist.

9/26/20227 Billion HumansAndroidpuzzle, coding, logic63: Defrag Disordered5SUPER fun! Hilarious writing. The puzzles eventually got too hard for me to complete without looking up solutions, which isn't fun if I have to do it too much. But I'm glad I downloaded it and played it...probably have several hours played in this little guy.
9
9/26/2022Summoner's GreedAndroidtower defense, idle, microtransactionsCompleted The Joint Revenge: Normal4Like tower defense but with Pokemon. You summon little monsters, place them in position and then upgrade them with various currencies. I got pretty far into it. Fun dynamics; I felt like I played for a good long while before the power curve got too steep for my budget. Then I stepped away from it for a long time and came back, upgraded one dude to the moon, and smashed the final boss. Maybe I'll keep it installed.

4/22/2021Merge DragonsAndroidpuzzle, match 3To the third or fourth challenge level3Was having a lot of fun until I started running into chalice limits. Not cool.

3/30/2021FirewatchPCNarrative, puzzle, first-personFINISHED IT4Love the intro; the way the setting and characters were established. I loved the ending. I loved the middle too. I guess I loved the whole thing—it really felt like being alone in the wilderness.
12
3/28/2021MarioKart TourAndroidCasual, racingOne or two courses2I'm disappointed that my controller doesn't work with the game; it's touch control only (or gyro)
13
3/23/2021Zen Koi (1 and 2)AndroidCasual, exploration / breedingAt some point I had almost ascened a koi to a dragon, but I got bored and quit before that2Zen Koi 2 felt exactly like the first game; I think the assets were even the same in many cases. The game hooked me quickly and I enjoyed it for many hours. I think I would have enjoyed the game a lot more (and for a lot longer) if the ponds had more variation in layout and features.
14
3/22/2021LineweightAndroidInteractive narrativeFinished chapter 41Cool idea, but didn't feel cohesive. And the writing wasn't right for the interactions. Pretty, though.
15
3/21/2021Run An EmpireAndroidGamification, fitnessWent for two runs2Mostly a civ building game. You run and walk to obtain territory and resources. Fitness seems like a shallow frosting layer on top of vanilla gameplay. And the onboarding experience was poor.
16
3/21/2021Speed ReadingAndroidGamification, brain trainingGot a few levels in2Well structured gamification and exercises. Just turns out that speed reading hacks don't really work. What you gain in speed, you lose in comprehension. Best way to gain reading speed? Read more.

3/16/2021Animal RestaurantAndroidIdle business management with crittersA handful of restaurant upgrades3I only log in a couple times each day, if that. But the 5-10 minutes I do play each day are fun!9/26/22: I stopped playing this a few months ago. I had added a few restaurant upgrades (new rooms, new menu items, etc.) and then got bored of the loop. IMO, not enough cute animals!
18
3/1/2021Hungry DragonsAndroidCasual, microtransactionsJust started and I can't stand it0So many microtransactions. The gameplay just isn't fun. Too much going on, it's noisy.
19
1/3/2021The GrizzledTabletopCoop, cardsFinished one game...and lost intensely.WWI-themed card drawing game. Cooperative, well-themed, but so difficult. New players should play without trap cards and take the time to play a practice round!
20
1/2/2021CoupTabletopDeception, cardsFinished one roundPlayed with the gamedevs as research for Roboston. I won with the Ambassador, whom I replaced with the Assassin, and the Contessa.
21
1/2/2021The ResistanceTabletopDeception, cardsFinished 3 roundsWas on Resistance team, then on Spies team.
22
1/2/2021Dead of WinterTabletopCoop / CompetitiveJust got into the first round the first time we tried it.Zombie survival game!
23
12/30/2020Amnesia: The Dark DescentPCSurvival horrorHonestly I have no idea how to describe where I was.Entry added 9/26/22: So like...I played this a long time ago. I remember it being spooky, but in an atmospheric way. There was some sort of mystery I was unravelling as I explored the environment. I remember that I took it really slow and explored every nook & cranny, but I ended up feeling like my efforts didn't pay off in any meaningful way. Maybe it was more on-rails than I was expecting.
24
11/28/2020ReignsAndroidCasualLongest reign of 60+ years, something like 37/45 cards revealedIt's cute, it's shallow, it has fun jokes. But it's very, very much a slot machine. The thing that makes you get longer reigns are (1) luck and (2) playing the game so much that you know which outcomes the recurring cards provide. Cute art though!
25
11/22/2020Mini MetroAndroidCasualFinished Berlin. I'll keep this one. Very relaxing! Controls are sometimes a bit fussy. Difficult to remove and redraw metro lines.
26
11/22/2020Tiny RoomAndroidPuzzle adventureFinished all chapters y, all seasons. Whole Redcliff story.Really fun. Captures the feeling of those old school adventure games; built like a series of puzzle rooms. They did a good job with the interface and allowing the player enough control to explore the 3D spaces. Wish I could decide what the main character looks like. UPDATE 12/30/2020 -- Finished all chapters of Season 1, still working through Season 2. Some of the puzzles are HARD.UPDATE 3/1/2021: Game got progressively weirder and less polished. Ending seemed rushed and suffered from poor translation. I'm not sure what message the devs were going for; still, I thought the mechanics of the game were fun. There were tons of silly moments that added up to something I liked. SPOILERS: So, did the guy blow up the crystal and kill everyone? I'm so confused about what happened at the end!

11/22/2020VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender ActionPCStoryGot to the start of Day 4I really like the writing, the characters, the worldbuilding. I DIG the relationships between the mainstays of the bar. But the mixing-drinks gameplay isn't deep enough to be interesting for more than 20 minutes or so. I know it has influence on the story, but...there just aren't enough choices, and I don't feel like I (as the player) have enough influence on the world. I'll keep it, and I'll probably continue working through it a little bit at a time, but it's not enough to keep me hooked for days on end. There is a sequel, apparently.
28
11/21/2020Hotline MiamiPC2D Shooter1 hour in, at second levelGreat soundtrack. Turned off by slightly janky controls, high difficulty, and seemingly meaningless violence. The game asks for a lot of investment and trust from the player up front but doesn't offer much reward for grinding through the difficulty.
29
11/21/2020We Know the DevilPCVisual novelFinished the Red endingIt drew me in, and some of the writing was good, but I admit I didn't really get it.
