| 4/4 | Will be intern at UTHSC Memphis. Looking for female roomie to share cost to 2 bed/2.5 bath townhouse within walking distance to Methodist Univeristy Hospital and ~5-7min drive to Regional One. Per person: $700/month for rent alone. $15/month for renter's insurance. Let me know if interested.
| 4/2 | Who would've thought that all those swag bag hand sanitizers would be so helpful
| 3/30 | A big thank you to everyone who canceled interviews and posted them. Thanks to one of you I interviewed at my #1 and ended up matching there
| 3/21 | Congrats to all!! Looking over the report looks like LSU Shrevport, Columbia Missouri, CaseMetro, and Marshall have unfilled spots if anybody is still looking
| So which programs went soaped?
| Good luck today, everyone!!! :D
| 3/20 | Did anyone else who interviewed at Yale just get a email called "Welcome to the Mp-1 2020" mailing list? Not sure if getting it means I matched there?
| 3/19 | Good luck homies!!!! // Thanks for being such a gracious group! Can't wait to find out who I'll be working with for the next four years!!
| Anyone else just get an email from ECU? | saying what?// I did. If it's the same one, it was a survey regarding their interview experience.
| Curious to know which/if any programs have open spots for SOAP? | You'll find out eventually but for now that's an NRMP Match Violation // There are 9 total spots, 4 in the Midwest, 5 in the South // posting the information is a SOAP violaton so I don't judge anyone going through that nightmare for not wanting to risk it
| 3/15 | Good luck this week, everybody! +1
| which places DID respond to post IV communication? humor me, I'm nervvvyyy :( | you're gonna match and do great :) // everybody!
| any other schools cancelling match day events due to corona virus? // Peds spreadsheet has a tab devoted to this, at least 45 schools cancelled or students only match day | OMG. What schools have cancelled?? // Ha! // I have heard that in Chicago, UIC (students only), Rush, Loyola and Northwestern have cancelled. Also some in CA and NY. MCW is making it students only // University of Washington cancelled // All the DC med schools are cancelling or only letting M4s and faculty be present+1
| 3/2 | Anyone have any info about increasing NP/PAs autonomy in medpeds programs/hospitals?
| 3/2 | just want to say thanks to everyone who shared info here. it really helped with everything, i hope everyone has a successful match | love how much more participation there was on the sheet this year!!
| 2/26 | DONE! YAY :D // :) | .+1
| 2/26 | Certified and chilling! Good luck to everyone! | *anxiety intensifies* +1
| 2/26 | I would be absolutely ecstatic with either of my top 2 choices. Beyond that i'd be a bit sad +1
| 2/25 | Still stuck b/n Loyola and IU. Interested in cardio/PCC | IU. Much bigger program.// cheers
| 2/21 | anyone get replies to their #1 love letters? ///+1 wondering this too, and if yes or no, from where? | nope haha +4 // nothing
| 2/21 | certified!!! | SAME. 4 weeks away team! // the torture of not changing my list again!
| 2/17 | It's been a long time since I did a peds rotation (like Fall) and I just ralized if I start on Medicine I'll probably go nearly a full year between Peds blocks, wild | sameeeeeee +1
| 2/16 | Anyone know when most residencies start? Anyone flying out the country on vacay and when you getting back? | IU is June 15, most are that week or the week following // officially july 1st everyone starts, but really it depends on orientation start date... i'm coming back june 10th latest // you can also email all the programs you interviewed with to ask when their orientation starts | ask on march 20th when you know where you're at
| 2/12 | It's wild step 1 is now pass/fail beginning 2022 | glad I got through before they blew the old system up ;) // it's good they did this, hopefully they reform this whole shitty process
| 2/12 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2/11 | Thoughts on MUSC vs UAB? Not sure who else liked these programs as much as me but struggling to pick between the two. I also saw someone wasnt ranking MUSC and was curious why | **I also loved both programs and curious why they wouldnt rank MUSC. Both are top 5 programs for me // What were your pro/cons for at least these two programs?//**Didnt have any cons really for either, both big centers for their states with diverse populations, my sister lives in Bham and loves it. Only thing ive heard about UAB is residents work really hard on the IM side.
| 2/11 | Thoughts on Duke vs Vandy vs Baylor? Especially regarding quality of life | Baylor>Vandy>Duke for peds strength, opposite for medicine. Think you will work very hard at all three places. COL-wise Duke>Vandy>Baylor. Depends what kind of place you would rather be (very big city, medium-big city, smaller city)// I feel like Nashville is more expensive than Houston, at least recently
| 2/10 | Additional thoughts on Case metro? Seems like a lot of people aren't ranking, just curious why | Very small Peds presence, incredibly awkward interview day and program director. +3 // PD wouldn't say their boards pass rates other than "it's low but we're working on it" and then changed the topic | remember this is a small number of applicants here using this list, definitely not representatitve of all medpeds applicants, anectdotally i've met people who didn't know or aren't using this spreadsheet and don't really care for this sort of thing
| 2/9 | Did everyone receive an email from the IU PD this week? | i did! they said on interview day they will send everyone an update << I did not...weird. I got an email from the two residents who led my interview day 2 weeks ago, but nothing from the PD// Was the email generic? Or did it seem it was a love letter? // It sounded generic but had an attachment with what tracks/opportunities I voiced about during my interview. < Does IU mean Indiana? Sorry if obvious.// I think it was a generic email, I got one too, the only thing personalized was my name and the month when I interviewed << | I got a personalized email from the PD +3
| 2/9 | does anyone remember Baylor’s schedule? And call schedule? | you could probably email the resident leader for your interview day!
| 2/7 | Thoughts on Colorado vs. Ohio state? | Close but I vote Colorado - slightly higher prestige and better location // I'm curious as to how can you say that Colorado is more prestigious when they've gradauated two classes of residents? <- I am Peds-side heavy, and Colorado is the more prestigious Peds categorical program, although of course Nationwide is no slouch // How would you compare these two to Baylor? | Colorado>Baylor>OHSU (personally)// Baylor>OSU>Colorado // Baylor>Colorado>OSU
| 2/7 | Is anyone dual applying and ranking more than one categorical? | What wait? Are we waiting for something? I forget...
| 2/6 | yeah I am. Unsure how to rank programs like Mayo IM vs UNC MP vs UPenn IM // Same...dual applied to med peds and IM. Majority of my IM programs will be at the bottom of my rank list. But it is a bit hard because some IM programs were better then some med peds programs
| indiana vs Loyola? thinking cardiology | Combined cardiology? // if possible | My impression interviewing was there is not much cardiology happening at Loyola on the peds side esp | Most of the peds cards cases from Loyola get sent to Lurie
| 2/5 | Thoughts on a PD resigning post-interview season? (looking @ you Stony Brook). I loved the current PD, so i'm super bummed by this. Anyone know where he's going? | He's going to UMiami // Got that email too and was like "HUH?!?" Love the current PD but the APD was super nice too.
| FILL IN YOUR ROL PLEASE! | pls guys I have to know how much competition I have for my top choice <3 <-- Lol #gunner / hard to tell if this is a joke?
| Additional thoughts on Spectrum GR? Curious why so many people aren't ranking | As someone who prefers inpatient, I wasn't a fan of the fact that you have to go to two separate clinics every single week. I think that would be very disruptive to patient care especially when you're the senior on the team. // Patient population seemed to be primarily white middle class and that kinda turned me off // Strong Peds but weak IM | not enough people are using this sheet for you to worry about people not ranking it... last year there were more applicants than the almost 400 medpeds spots available
| Thoughts on MCW vs Minnesota vs Rochester? | Rochester > Minn, Minn > MCW, MCW > Rochester //.... wut
| curious as to why a lot of people are not ranking loyola based on the tally tab? +1 // didn't interview there but also curious | I'm still ranking it but I wasn't particularly impressed, the residents were just not very nice (not that they were awful or anything, just didn't seem happy to be there). // I agree about the residents bit. They were on their phones a lot and were uninterested. I am also not ranking them because their peds was lackluster imo // I feel like there isn't enough ROL up there to say that loyola isn't being ranked, 3 have it in their rest of list, one in their top 5, out of only 12 people who have submitted lists, when 68 people filled out the applicants form, for nearly 400 medpeds spots. PEOPLE FILL IN YOUR ROL | I'll be ranking it in my top 5. PD and APD were awesome and residents were nice. Nothing outstanding about the program, but Chicago is a desirable place to live for me. Seems similar to Rush but you see more on the IM side at Loyola <<< same it was "good" not top 3 good so it'll round out my middle | I fucked up the interview with the PD so bad. He was wearing a buzz lightyear outfit (halloween) and I got super casual b/c of it and said "thanks man" as he held the door for me. F <<<<<<< that doesn't seem so bad | Current student and idk if this is the case everywhere but many of the med peds residents I know regret going into med peds which makes me hesitatnt to stay | I was turned off by how opaque they were about their policy on prescribing BC, even when directly asked. I also want to have training that includes transgender health, and they didn't offer that.
| once we certify on NRMP website do we need to do anything else? | Nope, if you've paid and it's certified that's it. << thanks
| what is the last day to certify/submit ROL?? | Feb 26th 9ET per the NRMP website
| interesting news about peds ed at MCW https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/wisconsin-hospital-pledges-honest-transparent-probe-its-handling-child-abuse-n1124801 | If the couple actually didn't do anything then MCW fumbled that hard. If the couple did, then who knows. Looks like a lot of people messed up from the long write up (which isn't that one but was linked on reddit) // I know the accused man personally and there is NO WAY IN HELL he abused his child
| If you were a residency program, what would you put in applicants swag bags? (serious) | I personally liked collecting pens from each program as a "souvenir" but also appreciated practical items like travel sized hand sanitizer, power bank + pen with penlight (UIC Peoria), non-chocolate/hard candy (so it doesn't melt in the suitcase), or something unique to the program/location ie. Penn State gave a Hershey bar, Tulane had mardi gras beads and a tiny Tabasco bottle, etc. I also really liked ECU's canvas tote bag since it's actually functional: zipper closure, has two side pockets (one is mesh for a waterbottle), a front pocket, and enough space to easily fit a 15" laptop and set of clothes + shoes. What I didn't enjoy was getting like 10 different water bottles/mugs since those are heavy/bulky and very difficult to pack into luggage (though if luggage space wasn't an issue I would probably use the mugs a lot more than the water bottles) // I wouldn't give a pull string bag, leave that to elsewhere, same with mugs/cups/water bottles. I'd give some things unique to the city, ex- if there's some sort of famous non-perishable food/product from the city/state, especially if it could be customized: ex-"thanks from ___ medpeds" on a container of creole seasoning from louisiana. The rest would be practical things - pen, chapstick, sunblock if it was a sunny area, ice scraper if it was a harsh winter place, etc.
| Any ideas on why UMD is ranked so low on doximity? | doximity is like any subjective rating site: it depends on who submits a rating. if only one person rates and they rate it low it's going to go to the bottom same if it's an n=1 and they rate high. think about who rates things: people who are disgruntled or people who are really happy, a lot of bias. UMD probably has a low n of people rating thus the low rank, now if it's a few people ranking it and it's low I'd take that into consideration a bit more
| thoughts on second looks? worth it? no? who cares? | Only do it if you genuinely want to see something again // every program I went to said they were happy to arrange it if you were interested but it played no role in ranking. Only do it if it would help you | IDK I went to a second look (just a dinner, and I'm local so it was convenient) and everyone was ecstatic to see the applicants that came. So they can say it doesn't matter, but I think even it it's subconscious, there is a little extra shine on your case if you go to one. Maybe not a ton, but every little something counts if it is your #1 choice. (Sorry if this causes stress, just my anecdotal observation!) <<<<< agreed! but only if they invite you, not if you ask. and purely anectdotal, a non-MP resident friend said that at his IM program, 2nd lookers that showed up to their pre-organized event were remembered more by residents who had a tiny say in rank list
| Folks who interviewed at Colorado--do you remember anything they said re: sending letters of intent? | I think they're open to it, but wouldn't expect a response. < thanks! | DO IT!!
| 1/26 | Anyone gauge how important an X+Y schedule is? Should I be ranking programs higher because they have this? | I thought this would matter a lot before interviews, and ultimately decided that I wasn't going to make any decisions based on this, esp since it differs b/t medicine and peds at most places | Current resident in hybrid X+Y/half-day-weekly program; yes, X+Y makes a huge difference! You get golden weekends with +Y, and you don't have to wrry about rushing to clinic while on inpatient
| Does anyone remember the call schedule at UChicago? | bad<< can u elaborate?
| Is there a name and shame for MP on reddit | One of these is IM, other is Peds, sorry for the formatting. Not sure about MP | in the past there's been general name and shames, occasionally a MP program shows up
| Any general idea of where MP people tend to end up on their rank list? Wondering if that 75% in top 3 statistic I see thrown around applies to us... | I forget what the NRMP data said, but it was there <<< found the NRMP data... USMDs 2018-2019 mean applications =24, contiguous ranks for >90% match rate=6. Can't find the rest of the data, this was from charts I screenshot and sent to a friend, I think it was top 3 around 75%, and 8 ranks for students was pretty close to 100% match rate | I don't have any specific data to support this, but I would guess that MP candidates can fall further down their lists because programs tend to be small (for example, if your top 5 programs all only take 4 people, compare that to an IM candidate whose top 5 programs all take 20+ people)
| Anyone sending "love letters" to their number one program? Any responses? /Any more "love letters" from programs that people have recieved? | Sent a letter of intent, got a super generic reply. Most if not all places I interviewed at made it pretty clear that they wouldn't be sending love letters. // Sent a love letter a few days ago, got no reply ugh +2 // I'm couples matching (with Surgery 😬) so we both sent LOI's to our #1 - I got a nice response back but it didn't confirm or promise anything! | we discussed this below, most places confirmed no love letters
| Can we get some call schedules put in on the Post-IV review? I lost my notes on the trail and had like 10 places worth of call scheds! (specifically all NY programs, Yale, Baystate, MGH, Brown, NJMS ) | I second this, realized I only wrote it down for like 1/2 of my programs and now really wishing I had it.
| Anyone here ever heard of people switching into Med-Peds from IM or Peds? I'm a Peds applicant who over the course of interview season is becoming disillusioned by the lack of autonomy and procedures in pediatrics. thinking about possibility of switching into med-peds and wondering if anyone knows if this is possible, how hard to do, or any resources to learn more? thx | I've heard of folks going from categorical to MP, but IDK how hard it would be to do the opposite. You would probably lose out on MP elective time since it so limited // look a few down someone asked about switching on 1/22 // First response above: the OP is asking about switching from Peds categorical to MP.///My Program director stated that it is possible if you switch after your intern year, after that, not really likely.
| 1/23 | Is there going to be a name and shame tab added after ROL get finalized? | Leave that on reddit, don't bring it here +1// I think it would be interesting to hear why people didnt rank places << it should be on here +3//What fits you and how your experience at a interview felt is so incredibly subjective and whatever is put here is completely without context. That really only seeds animosity towards programs that may be an amazing fit for somebody else.<< But I think people can decide for themselves the level of bias online // Where's the name and shame for MP on reddit? // if there is name and shame it should only be for reportable offenses not microaggression type things | mid season name and shame via reddit: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kVQ5gKTEGqRTWpHVXBsd9FV7o-Z1uGNC20FZUslFLeU/edit#gid=671494735z
| 1/23 | How much of a deal-breaker is CWRU/Rainbow Babies not having combined med-peds clinic? Interested in MP primary care. Really like everything else about program (strong categoricals, 5th year MP chief, standalone childrens hospital) but feels like not having a combined clinic is really bugging me | I'm also intersted in MP primary care, for me combined clinic vs separate clinics isn't a big deal as long as we're getting in clinical days every week in either one or both. I liked what they have going on except for that too, but I think everything else outweighs it // Im not going into PC but I think a combined clinic is a nice perk but not a deal breaker for me +1
| 1/22 | Indiana vs Loyola? | both were great, for me what splits them is size, indiana has a lot of residents vs loyala, not going to say which way I'm pushed but that's something that matters to me << did you meet the chiefs at Indiana on your interview day? I didnt and wondered why? No one addressed it. << did you ask to meet them? We met one of them, they were pretty normal like most chiefs at other programs << this was the first interview i've had where the chiefs didnt play a role. was just wondering if it meant something // had a few where chiefs weren't really involved: one came to a dinner, another they came to noon conference/lunch, another they stopped in to say hi and say how much they loved the program... not much interaction, i didnt think much of it
| 1/22 | Cinci vs UPMC vs Rochester? | everyone loves UPMC! // What city did you like the best? All programs are great - I liked Cinci as a city, Roch for PD/faculty (+1), UPMC for residents, so tough!
| 1/22 | People applying categorical too, does anyone have any insight into the likelihood of transferring to Med-Peds from either the IM or Peds side? I understand some programs would be more open to this than others, but has anyone heard of this happening, at all? | From the many NMPRA conferences I've been to I've never met anyone that's done it, switching MedPeds programs yes, but not a categorical jump. I would think the problem is doing a year of IM or Peds would throw off how the other MedPeds years are divided up, and how the ACGME counts it. // Someone at Peoria switched from Peds to Med-Peds after year 1. You just have to have the faculty that is willing to work with you. She is doing all of her medicine this year since she already has a year of peds. She will be graduating a half year later than everyone else I believe. I don't think it's super common but if you have the right program and resources, it is probably possible. +1 | Just a thought, but maybe people at those NMPRA conferences just weren't super open about sharing this kind of information about their residency journey? // you're possibly correct, there was a guy from Geisinger that did MP then matched again in EM and is in residency again// USC had one resident switch to EM too. // Loma Linda also had a resident switch from MP to EM after two years // don't they lose funding with this? ACGME only guarantees funding for a limited amount of years right?
| 1/21 | Anyone interview at Tulane? Any thoughts...Seems like strong program but I haven't seen much talk about it here. | Fill out the Post-IV Review, maybe someone else will be motivated by that to chime in // Loved Tulane, PD is super chill, NOLA is a great city with tons to do and a great vibe, good clinical medicine, if I was more connected to the area I'd be putting them higher | 1/23 I thought Tulane was one of the most mission-driven MP programs and the PD has a huge heart for transitional medicine and community service. As mentioned, there are multiple pathways of distinction to make sure you're on the right track for your career interests (research, primary care, hospitalist, subspecialty...there's a 5th one but I can't remember off the top of my head) and if you are interested in a certain specialty, you get longitudinal exposure to subspecialty clinics as early as PGY1 in order to find good mentors and strong letter writers for your future fellowship application. The curriculum also seemed very "logical" and well thought out ie. getting rid of morning and noon conferences and putting them into one lecture in the mid-afternoon when pagers are least likely to go off. I personally loved Tulane but am ranking them lower bc 1) 6 hospital sites and 5 EMRs (which is great training for a huge diversity of patients and hospital systems but very overwhelming as a PGY1), 2) MP clinic is only open 2x/week and residents say it's very adult-heavy, and 3) IM is very traditional and likes their 28h q4 on all IM wards with no desire to switch to night float
| 1/21 | Should I be worried that I haven't gotten any love letters from programs? Kinda freakin' me out... | No, a lot of programs have said they don't do them.// Thanks! // at an interview a PD said that a group of PDs got together and decided to not send them or require 2nd looks // I'm applying MP + a categorical and it's my/my compatriots' observation that the MP PDs aren't sending them as often as the IM or Peds PDs <-- noticed the same for FM vs MP, FM=hand written love cards, MP radio silence
| 1/21 | Tomorrow wraps up all interviews (from what people listed). Congrats everyone, this part is over.
| 1/21 | Did any programs say NOT to send love notes? Thoughts on telling programs you are ranking them #1? | Rush made it very clear not to have any post-interview communication// Brown said don't bother // don't tell more than 1 program you're ranking them #1, if you don't put them #1 and match elsewhere it could DNR you for fellowship or mess it up for future applicants from your school, has happened before // Agree don't #1 love letter more than one program
| 1/18 | Any thoughts on Indiana vs Minnesota? Having a hard time with ranking them | Same, can't go wrong with either of them though! Can you handle a Minneapolis winter? << Touche lol
| 1/17 | I just want to give a big respectable applause to UCLA for the closure their end of season rejection has given me | Same plus a HUGE thank you for the unneccesarily harsh wording in their form-letter +2 // what did it say? // something like, "we looked over your great stuff and you wouldn't be even ranked, so no interview for you" // lol, at least they said something // "you are unlikely to be placed on our final ranklist" [even if we did throw you a pity interview] - lol thanks buddies? // send them a rejection email back, "thank you for interviewing me, I will not be placing you on my rank list"
| 1/16 | Recently interviewed at Mt. Sinai and loved the program. But I'm very hesitant about the "Do Primary Care Or Else" message. I was wondering if anyone who interviewed there had the courage to ask the PD what happens if you change your mind and want to go from primary care to fellowship. | your PD could sink your chances for fellowships with a bad letter and calls to other places // I asked, "little/no support will be given if you opt out of primary care." I heard Hopkins is like this too//Thanks for this! Now I know where to put them on my list. So sad....such an amazing program smh +1 // just want to +1 that primary care only, oh well // someone answered this way earlier in the season it seems (below)
| 1/16 | What are people's thoughts about Vandy not taking Medicare/Medicaid in outpatient clinics? | That was one of the reasons why I didn't apply // Not a fan but Meharry is the hospital that gets all the patients the other Nashville hospitals don't want (medicare/medicaid), Vandy essentially gives them money to keep their doors open so they don't have to take on those patients - as told to me at interview and from a friend at Meharry. Vandy resident here; all patients are seen inpatient regardless of insurance; outpatient, we do see Medicare adults, and Medicaid kids; due to state politics with Medicaid contract negotiation, Vanderbilt can't take adults with Medicaid.
| 1/16 | Anyone know why the NMPRA website seems to have disappeared? | Also wondering this // Page is temporarily down as are emails according to their social media - if you need to reach them you can email until it's back up - national.medpeds@gmail.com//Been wondering the same thing for the longest! Thanks for this! | SITE IS BACK UP!!
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1/15 | What are the reasons for you guys to DNR programs? (wondering about Georgetown specifically but also curious about other ones)<< also MUSC | Resident(s) were assholes at dinner << one side (IM or Peds) is comparatively very weak +1 [this applies to Georgetown tbh] // not G-town or MUSC, resident asked if i was single // interviewer pretty much didn't care that I was there (checked email, texted - it wasn't a resdeint either but MP faculty!) | I'm DNR-ing a place because there's an attending on faculty that used to be at my school that was really toxic that will likely be one of my attendings
| Anyone else feel that the LSU NOLA PD was very harsh in her interviewing? | Not at all. She asked questions that I hadnt been asked before, but I thought she was super chill and even asked to give me a hug at the end. Probs one of the most relaxed interviews I've had // I personally thought she was...kinda turned me off to the program // how so? +1// She spent the entire interview asking questions about my rotations, patients I had seen, hospitals I had rotated at...this was the first time I had come across this and was slightly surprised...and unprepared lol. She wasn't mean per se...it just was jarring to have someone ask to such a detail about rotations I had taken months ago// agreed wanted to know exactly how the med-peds program was run at my school, where I did my rotations and what types of hospitals. She wasn't mean about it at all but they were weird questions. Not sure how this helps to know about me? Felt more like they were trying to get info on how to change/improve their program. | Essentially spent my whole interview with the PD describing which hospitals I had rotated at/+1 plus talking about a gap in undergrad. // she did this to a friend who is a PGY-1 there, it means you're a highly sought after candidate// oh that's interesting...had the same experience...hmmmm
| 1/15 | Anyone received any love letters from programs? | Oklahoma // MSU //UNC+3// USC+1
| 1/13 | The end is in sight! Let's get those anonymous ROL Discussion and Rank Tally sheets going folks - kudos to those brave souls who've already posted :)
| 1/12 | What's the indiana interview day like? 4 interviews? Conversational? | 4 interviews, including PD, APD which are shorter and 2 longer faculty interviews. Long day, with a fair amount of downtime while waiting for others to interview etc. Lots of candy - this is an understatement +1 << were the interviews chill? << Very chill, conersational << thanks! :)
| Does anyone remember if UPMC discourages PIC? | What about Ohio State? // I don't remember either place saying anything - could be wrong though
| 1/8 | The UMich rejection finally came smh +1 | I think they re-sent to everyone they didn't interview since they've already finished interviewing // how about those double rejections - they hit me twice! +3
| 1/7 | How close is everybody to being done? Last one this week and I can't wait | wait for residency to start saying that med/peds is a grind if i have ever seen one
| 1/6 | Was thinking of sending a LOI to UPenn/CHOP. Do they have Jan dates? The UPenn website says the last date is Dec 19th but the IV date tab shows dates into Jan..so a little confused. | Cant hurt // they ended in december
| 1/6 | Anybody have info/experience about U at Buffalo? Does it have the Northeast malignancy? | What's this "Northeast malignancy"? << mainly refers to NYC programs being full of scut work, I believe. << Thanks, there's only 1 NYC program though that's pretty new // I've heard solid group of interns boring city which can be said about a lot of places//I've heard the benefits are absolutely unreal at Buffalo if that is important to you. // Residents were some of the best that I met on the trail, Buffalo has a lot to do in spring/summer/fall and the surrounding areas are great, they're going high on my list << really great residents, not malignant at all (current student). Small city but very affordable with various things to do year round!
| 1/5 | Can someone who interviewed at Mt Sinai update the Post-IV Review, with call sched if possible? +1 | updated, but didn't have call sched it was a hectic interview week for me // thanks!!
| 1/2 | Anyone know Indiana, Loyola, or UNC's orientation start date? | 6/2020 << just wondering what exact date? my med school graduation is 6/16/2020 // Indiana starts clinicals on 6/23 but you have orientation before that
| 12/31 | What is UNC's schedule like? | Interview schedule or rotation? << If I match there what's my schedule like? I interviewed there and it was my 4th interview that week. I honestly remember v little about the scheduling. Loved the program though
| Happy new year Med-Peds peeps! // <3
| Anyone else done with interviews and now figuring out just how the hell to rank these programs that seem so similar? +2 | Not done with interviews yet but I definitely have a handful of programs currently "tied" on my rank list and at this point I am going for initial gut reaction when looking back on the interview experience rather than all the details. One of my friends (now an intern) suggested putting all the names of these similar programs in a bag, draw one as if that's where you will match, and then note your reaction to having drawn that program name// that's a pretty good method a real gut check if you will
| 12/31 | Indiana vs UNC? Thoughts on Indiana? Any word on their fellowship match? | I don't remember details but solid fellowship match list from Indiana << cheers, really excited that I got an invite from IU
| 12/31 | Got an Indiana trickle! :) | Woohoo, congrats!!+1 << thanks, absolutely chuffed

| 12/30 | Can someone who interviewed at MUSC update the IV review (specifically the call schedule!) Thanks!
| 12/29 | Does Phoenix provide a hotel? | No they don't :( Don't even give info on hotel reservations
| 12/27 | Any holiday gift rejections? Update rejections if you've had any | Looks like a lot of places will just ghost us forever // when we match we have to insist to our PDs/PCs to not ghost
| 12/23 | If people know their rank orders, they can start posting anonymously in the ROL Discussion and Rank Order Tally tabs
| What time does USC's interview get over? | Between 2-2:30 pm!
| 12/23 | Anyone planning on cancelling a Georgetown IV? | Saw that there's an opening for Jan 7. Email and you might get it!<--Thanks!
| 12/23 | Thoughts on Jefferson/Cristiana? Got off the WL for Jan 10 but the burnout is real so idk if it's worth going.. | if you have an idea of your ROL and think that you are fine with what you have cancel before the drop date
| 12/21 | Is anyone planning on cancelling MUSC? +2
| 12/20 | What time does the CW Metrohealth interview day end? Trying to book flight home and the last email just says 'mid to late afternoon' :I | Wrapped up by 3 <--thank you! | g9o99999
| 12/20 | Odds of matching somewhere you got off the WL? | Once you get to the interview, you should be considered on equal footing to everyone else. I'd just rank with that assumption. | it happens, definitely
| 12/19 | When does Brown interview day end? | Sometime between 3:15 and 3:30 <-- thanks!
| 12/18 | What EMR does Jefferson/SKMC use? | You primarily rotate at Christiana Hospital (Cerner) and DuPont Childrens (Epic). You don't actually ever rotate at Jefferson- it's just the institution affiliated with the program.
| 12/18 | the real question is: who had the best/worst swag bag?? +1 | I've been using the Geisinger cup recently!// Penn State Med/Peds coffee mug! // Cinci gave a powerbank, hand sanitizers, and chapstick! <though my powerbank does not hold charge // Albany water bottle has really nice texture | Wisconsin water bottle is 10/10, sad that I broke mine already
| 12/17 | does anyone know of any programs that offer an MPH program? I remember hearing it somewhere... | I believe it was at UIC you can get an MPH or other master's for free << yeah this is the case// WVU and ECU have one as well // with all your free time... :)
| 12/17 | when does the Indiana interview day end? | 3:45-4:00
| 12/17 | Can people fill in info for call schedules on Post IV-Review | Yes plz! +2 \\also perks?
| 12/16 | Did anyone else get a holiday card from Louisville? | maybe... my permanent address is back home, i'll see over the holiday
| 12/12 | Anybody gotten off waitlists <1 week out? Still holding out for two places next week. +1 | Same, fingers crossed for Brown and Indiana// Hoping for MCW and Greenville, good luck! << I got rejected from MCW so you still being in the running is a good sign!
| 12/12 | Any new rejections... post them up so I can stop holding onto hope
| 12/11 | Anyone with success getting off u Chicago waitlist? | were you formally waitlisted? // (not op) i've been formally waitlisted since october and have had 0 movement sadly << ive been ghosted
| 12/11 | Does everyone receive a thank you email from UNC after the interview? | I think yes. I did. <what about hand written note?
| 12/11 | Whats the call schedule at UAB? | I think its q4, they have a night float team for every adult service if I remember correctly
| 12/10 | Any waitlist movement on Baylor?
| 12/10 | Loyola interview date open on 12/19 | Also declined my interview day for the same date!
| 12/10 | Any prayer on a BWH, Brown, Indiana, UMich or MSU interview invite? | Last BWH Interview is occurring tomorrow << welp // I'm cancelling my Brown interview 1/13 // <3
| 12/10 | If I withdraw myself from a waitlist online since I don't care if I interview there do I need to email the program and let them know that I'm withdrawing my application << where at? << Rutgers, Baystate, Uni Missouri Kansas City | I would +3
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12/9 | Can everyone help update WL and available interview dates // and rejections too!
| 12/8 | What are the benefits to a stand alone children's hospital? | Higher acuity, larger volume, more research/scholarly opportunities. Usually looks more impressive for fellowships because of the high caliber faculty in subspecialties and research availability. Hospital within a hospital is more variable in terms of volume/complexity, but has the advantage of sometimes more autonomy (fewer fellows) and may make it easier to feel integrated on both IM and peds since the hospitals are connected. Honestly depends what your goals are (inpatient vs. outpatient, specialist vs. generalist, big M vs. big P).<< Thanks! | I dont think this is a hard and fast rule. For example, UOklahoma has a stand alone children's hospital and Loyola doesnt, but both are great programs./// I agree with this, I have seen programs with hospital w/in hospitals have more resources and specialist than some stand alone childrens hospitals that I've come across. I used to want a stand alone hospital but that has mattered less and less as interview season has gone on.
| 12/8 | What is the deal with Peoria's accommodations? Do they arrange for a hotel or provide a discount and when do you get this information? | They arrange a hotel room for you, I got confirmation number about two weeks in advance << Thank you!
| 12/8 | What are the negatives to going to a newer MP program (specifically thinking UTSW) where the categoricals are highly ranked and well-established? | negative I can think of would be lack of a pre-existing med-peds identity. Also seems like a lot of focus is placed on categorical residents vs combined, especially IM. They seem to get first pick for schedules, research, and global health opportunities so med/peds won't have their flexibility or preference. | I would add that newer programs often don't have a very clear vision of the type of residents they want, so for ranking they tend to lean into cut-and-dry metrics (high scores, research output if their campus historically prioritizes research). <<can confirm, definitely felt this on my interview day
| 12/7 | Will I be as competitive for a fellowship if I pursue Med-Peds vs IM? I dual-applied and have programs from both sides that I like, but am leaning med-peds. Thinking cardio or pulm-crit | Just curious, what is making you lean med peds currently? << I like both medicine and pediatrics and although long-term I think I'll go IM or combined fellowship, I dont want to ruleout a career in peds just yet. Also, I loved UNC's program. <<< it probably depends on the academic caliber of the MP vs IM programs, but in general MP programs match at very strong IM, combined, and Peds fellowships // Just my 2c but if you're considering cardio I would think that a training in MP gives the advantage/"selling point" of being able to handle congenital heart adult patients better than being IM only. In general a background in MP looks more desirable than the categorical counterparts but if you're coming from a big name IM program you'd probably be just as successful << cheers. such a hard decision +1
| 12/6 | Thoughts on U of Missouri - kansas City?
| 12/6 | I noticed most med-peds graduates do not do a fellowship. Is this normal? | 1/3 hospitalist, 1/3 outpatient primary care, 1/3 fellowship is the typical breakdown
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12/6 | Any thoughts on USC Greenville? +1 | Great PD with huge emphasis on wellness and transitional care + beautiful hospital but no combined MP clinic and no standalone children's hospital. | Loved the Greenville area itself! Seems like a great place to live
| 12/6 | PLEASE UPDATE REJECTIONS COLUMN ON IV TAB
| 12/5 | does anyone know when stonybrook's interview day ends? I'm trying to book my flights right now... thanks in advance!! | Around 3-3:15p
| 12/5 | Please continue to update post-IV review!!
| Anyone else freaking out about their rank list? I've liked so many of the programs I interviewed at, which I know is a good problem to have but it's making it really tough to choose what order to rank my top few in. | Same, no clear #1, but good problem to have I suppose. << god I already feel so bad putting one program above another << my 1 and 2 are pretty clear, but literally every program after that is equal to me / My 1 and 2 are clearly the top 2, but I can't decide which one to put over the other one because both of their flaws are things I can live with
| 12/5 | Jackson Memorial vs MCW? Very time sensitive | If you want a standalone children's hospital I would say MCW. With Jackson you get a lot of Spanish speaking patients which can a con for some since you'll need help with translation if you don't speak Spanish. there is a lot of spanish speaking at MCW too
| 12/5 | Time sensitive as well: Considering in dropping one or the other, Loyola vs Louisville? Thoughts? | Louisville > Loyola <-- explain // Haven't interviewed at Loyola yet but I was really impressed with Louisville. Super nice residents and cool opportunities . // Would you mind being specific? << Loyola can be brutal on medicine, great learning from post-transplant pts as they do more lung and cardiac transplants than all the other chicago programs combined, but the residents seemed exhausted. Loyola also doesn't offer many international/global health opportunities//For Louisville, they have a SNF for complex kids (something I personally am interested in, don't know if that appeals to you), they also have nice benefits (5 days off at Christmas or New Years, free parking). Cheap cost of living but still kind of a cool city, much more progressive than the rest of Kentucky. // Loyola also doesn't have a free standing children's hospital, so I'd pick Louisville as well
| 12/5 | Time sensitive! I was initially doubled booked for Loyola, MCW, and now Rutgers too :( It sounds like MCW>Loyola but I was wondering where Rutgers would fall? Interested in benign heme and transitional medicine. Alternatively, if anyone is willing to switch their 12/13 Rutgers to 12/20 (what I have atm), I would appreciate it so much! | MCW over both +3 // MCW > Loyala > NJMS
| 12/4 | Question: so, I have a UAB interview the day before my Michigan interview, and it seems impossible to reasonably get to both. From people who have interviewed at either/both program/s, thoughts on which one would be better to go to? Relatively time-sensivitve decision (want to make sure to leave two weeks for them to get one of you other cool people in the spot!) | I'd go with UAB, did my undergrad at UofM. Not the best place to live. << I second this. UAB is a truly amazing program. << you really cant go wrong with either, I'd consider where you want to live. +1
| 12/4 | Did UNC send hand written letters to everyone? | got two - a letter and also a post-interview survey// What do you mean by hand written letter? I received an email after the interview that I thought was pretty standard.
| 12/4 | Anyone go to the Colorado clinic tour, did you go in casual clothes? Did the residents drive you straight to the dinner from there? | I went in medium clothes, but there were people in jeans, but clinic is pretty much closed when you get there so it doesn't matter. They'll drive you!// Thank you!!!!!
| 12/4 | Anyone dropping Minnesota?
| 12/4 | What time does the interview day end at UPMC? | 230pm
| 12/4 | Can someone update UTSW IV dates? Somehow it got deleted | I put in the dates that are left//Thanks!
| 12/4 | Anyone dropping MUSC? | Yes dropped it today. My interview date was for Jan 13.
| 12/3 | Honest opinions on 16 mo intern year. Does it really matter? Pros/Cons? | My PD at a 12mo intern year said its unnecessary and the 4 extra months dont make you more prepared to be a senior reslly
| 12/3 | Additional thoughts on Maine?
| 12/3 | Any thoughts on Louisville's program?
| 12/2 | Anyone dropping Brown or Indiana? xo | dropping Indiana tonight! << you angel << what date? make that this afternoon haha 1/13--done/dropped! good luck, friend [also dropped Tulane and VCU if you're looking out for either of those!] << thanks so much :)
| 12/2 | Anyone thinking about dropping Rush? :)
| 12/2 | What time is the interview day over at LSU NOLA? Never received an itinerary. | It's done around 3-3:30ish after lunch // several people didn't go to the lunch, but it's at Commanders Palace and AMAZING
| 12/2 | is anyone waitlisting the 18th as a michgan date?
| 12/2 | Can I clean up the IV swap tab? there are many scheduled dates that have well passed | yes
| 12/1 | Can someone clarify the call schedule for DMC/Wayne State. I took contradictory notes during my interview day and have confused myself! Thanks:) | Put up a Post IV-Review and I'll toss that info up when I interview there
| 11/30 | Wasn't planning to get off the Loyola WL and now I'm double booked with Med College of WI and need to cancel one. Does anyone know the call schedule for Loyola? (feedback on both programs also welcomed) | q4 24h call on PICU and NICU at Loyola, also occasional 24h call on Friday night to give the night float a night off / Depends on what you're interested in; MCW has a much stronger peds side and Loyola seems to have a stronger medicine side. Loyola also has a continuity clinic schedule with some people having morning clinic instead of afternoon. // MCW definitely has a stronger, robust peds side. Has a pretty good global health track too. Their peds cachement area is almost the whole state. // loyola does not have free standing children's. it's like a couple floors in a tower... so go to MCW
| 11/30 | What are your thoughts on programs sending post-interview handwritten letters to you? | I personally take all forms of post-interview communication with a grain of salt // it made me feel guilty that I hadn't sent a TY card. Otherwise I didn't think it meant I was special or anything
| 11/28 | are most of you sending thank yous to programs after interviewing? are there any programs that said to absolutely not send them? | I havent been, but many programs have reached out to me, in which case i've replied with a thank you // Kansas City PD really intensely stated that it was "inappropriate" to send anything at all to them in terms of a Thank You letter... So I didn't send one there but sent them everywhere else haha. // I have not sent any thank you letters. Over the course of the interviews I have been too, almost all said it was unneccesary and would not change their impression of applicants in any way, and would not receive a response // I haven't been either// I haven't been sending and was told NOT to.
| 11/28 | Happy thanksgiving! Please let them trickle and update any cancellations! thanks! :) | God I just want one < +1
| 11/27 | anyone else running into issues with school/rotation attendance policies? I had to drop interviews because of this, ridiculous! | IMG from Europe. I only get 10 days off so I've had to use sick time. It's so frustrating that our uni's dont understand how important this is! | Yes, our school makes it nearly impossible << what school?
| 11/27 | what are the chances of actually matching somewhere that you were fortunate enough to move off of the waitlist for an interview? my thought is my application was a second line for them in the first place so chances of being placed high on their list isnt very good? | We will probably never truly know but if you love the program and you got to the interview, I wouldn't worry about it. They still need to rank a certain number of people and you will likely be one of them // If you interview you're an option, if the first line people were jerks and you're not then you'll be higher on the list +1
| 11/26 | Any thoughts on MCW? | Strong peds hospital, good city. Their morning report style was a little weird, but I liked their noon conference. Nice residents. Has some, but not a ton of global health presence, which is something I'm personally interested in.
| 11/26 | Has anyone asked about the marijuana testing policies when they interviewed in California or Denver? Obviously not before work but recreationally after work to relax? I wasn't brave enough to ask | The answer will be dont use drugs // :'-( // I wonder how the upcoming potential change of national drug policy will effect this << I dont see this changing for docs anytime soon. Anytime there's a medical error we'll be drug tested and have to be clean otherwise bad news // Residency positions are federally funded so all programs have to screen for it as it is still federally illegal
| 11/26 | <<BUMP>> Just wanted to add my voice to what's already been said -- please update your program numbers so we can get an idea of how many progrmas people are sitting on and if there is potential for waitlist shifting. Thank you!
| 11/26 | Loyola vs UNC? Fellowship match and prestige. | UNC is really well thought of on the Peds and IM sides. I don't have experience with Loyola but I would guess UNC. << thanks
| 11/26 | Any thoughts on UCLA's? | Loved the program, hate Los Angeles, what a hell hole (traffic and cost of living)
| 11/26 | Is the continutity clinic at MUSC resident run?
| 11/26 | Has anyone heard about the nursing strike at UChicago? For people who interviewed there already was this brought up? | Wasn't brought up! Heard about it from a former student, but not much tbh. / The residents mentioned it but didn't seem to think it was a big deal or would effect them at all. // I asked, they said it'd be over with by the time we'd start
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11/25 | Anyone planning to cancel UT Houston?
| 11/24 | Has anyone had any luck with Baylor responding to LOIs? Or at least any IV offers? | Just cancelled an interview with them today. Hopefully you get the spot! //Have heard nothing from them.
| 11/24 | Anyone planning on dropping an interview for Utah on Dec 10? I got off a waitlist at another program the same day but I really want to interview at Utah. | I dropped my interview on December 9th just now. Maybe you can change to that date? // That's weird, it's been telling me for weeks that the 9th was not available to schedule or waitlist. I assumed they had cancelled it.
| 11/24 | People with over 10 IV, are you (or did you) go on all your interviews? Why? (why when statistically you need 10 at most to competitively match according to NRMP data? Even PDs at the NMPRA conference said 8-10 was enough) +1 << let them trickle plz! | Currently at 11. I got off some waitlists at programs I sent LOIs to and the rest are too soon to cancel or I already booked flights.//Im planning on going on all 15 of mine // At 13 now, cancelled 2 this past week slowly realizing ehh I really don't feel like spending $400+ traveling to places and not seeing myself at those programs lolol. Plus I'm tired asf with interviewing haha//Going on 14/15. For med school I ended up at a place I never thought I would seriously consider, and ended up loving it. So I'm afraid if I cancel interviews I might miss out on a program that I would have loved.// had 14 interviews but after going on 10 of them, I think it is way more than enough to match somewhere. Cancelled 4 interviews today so hopefully they trickle down to some people! Good luck everyone! << where'd you cancel? // 11/26- thanks for your answers, keep them coming!// Currently at 13 and it's intimidating to drop interviews with programs/locations I have no experience with, especially when flights have already been purchased. // Going on 14/18. | I asked PDs this during interviews, nearly all agreed its diminishing returns beyond 10 interviews, I canceled the other ones that I had above 10 after getting similar opinions from nearly ALL PDs
| 11/24 | any feedback on LSU-NOLA?
| 11/24 | anyone in limbo for Michigan? 😒 | I haven't gotten any communication from them // Looks like there's one spot open 12/6 on interview broker. Hope it works in one of y'alls favor! // Email them if youre interested. They're receptive to it. | 11/26: Anyone considering dropping michigan on the 18th?
| 11/23 | Anyone getting any late trickle offers? Or luck with waitlist spots opening up? | I got off a few waitlists this past week << congrats!<< Thanks! // I got an invite this week and have gotten off a few waitlists // I just got off a waitlist as well | 11/25
| 11/23 | Any update on Indiana or Brown? Still interview spots open? | I'm probably dropping Indiana in Jan later this week! << Amazing, thank you
| 11/23 | Any ranking of med-peds programs like USNWR does for IM? | Someone on the interview trail said something about doximity having one but I haven't been able to find it // if you find a ranking please link it << there's a doximity one but I dont put a lot of stock into theres https://residency.doximity.com/programs?residency_specialty_id=223&sort_by=reputation&location_type=region // I also dont put much stock into the doximity rankings and they can vary pretty differently from the categorical programs +1
| 11/23 | I've met such nice people on the interview trail. +4 | Same! Truly down to earth people :) // it's been hit or miss for me, awesome people or really fake and disinterested in everything
| 11/23 | PLEASE UPDATE REJECTIONS COLUMN ON IV TAB
| 11/20 | Shout out to Kathy at the University of Oklahoma. Lovely woman and excellent PC | agreed. honestly one of the main perks there.
| 11/20 | Anyone have info or a response from U of Puerto Rico?? | I interviewed there <--- thoughts? and do you have step3 done?<< it´s ok.. and yes I have step 3, and I am from South America
| 11/20 | #N/A | https://www.facebook.com/groups/522107951706872/?ref=share
| 11/20 | What percentage match their top 3 in med-peds? +2 | I believe across all specialties it is ~50% to top choice, 75% to top 3
| 11/20 | I dual-applied. Stuck b/n Mayo IM and UNC med-peds. Any input? Ultimate goal is either cardio or heme fellowship. More of an M than a P | Go with your gut. You'll make the right choice. // Which one gave you a better feel? Did either one leave you saying, this is my crew of people? If so, that one. // Mayo IM all the way dude/dudette!
| 11/20 | Any interest in a "type of breakfast" column in Post-IV Review so y'all can plan for which types of carbs you will be consuming each morning? | lol
| 11/20 | Is anyone planning on canceling Rush or UChicago? WL life for both but Chicago is my top city for personal reasons. Thanks! (+1)
| 11/19 | Has there been any waitlist movement for Arizona? | Yes, I know some people who have gotten off //. 11/20 they just emailed me and opened 2 new dates. Check ERAS, 1/6 and 1/7 are both available as of 16:45 EST
| 11/19 | Do people from warm/nice climates seriously consider voluntarily moving the snowy midwest for four years? | yes if the program has everything you want... lots of people from the south in programs up north... As a northerner I always say with adequate clothing and layering, anyone can manage the cold!/ Yes I'm interested in a living in a different part of the country so I'm considering moving to a cold climate with snow. Also there's a strong MedPeds presence in the Midwest which is a plus
| 11/18 | Has there been any waitlist movement for Minnesota? | I got off the waitlist last week for a December date!
| 11/15 | Anyone planning to cancel Memphis?
| 11/13 | Thoughts on UOklahoma's program? | was not impressed tbh // I really like it, awesome group of residents
| 11/13 | Does anyone know if the dinner meeting for USC (California) mandatory or optional? I'll likely have to miss it and the wording in the initial interview invitation was unclear | Optional
| 11/13 | Anyone planning to cancel at Brown? WL life | Did you get an email saying you're on the WL? // Ugh living that WL life too. They sent out emails inviting people but they had to WL on interview broker // just got off the WL in Jan so apparently movement is possible!
| 11/12 | Anyone have luck getting off Ohio State's waitlist? They said they would email if anything opened up but I've heard nothing | No but I just dropped my interview there so hopefully someone will get off the WL
| 11/11 | Is it too late to send letters of interest? | As much as I hate to say it, probably. Doesn't seem like II are still going out =( // I'm still gonna send some. Waitlists may still move. // Waitlists should still move I plan on cancelling another interview. / I just sent out some LOIs. // I sent one 11/18 and got no reply but an offer 11/19 // I sent one 11/14 and got an invitation to waitlist 11/20
| 11/11 | There should be a tab for interview invitations per day +2
| 11/10 | Who are the faculty interviews with at Minnesota? | they give you a list of potential interviewers before. you have two faculty interviews for 25 minutes. i interviewed with a med/peds outpatient doc and a hospitalist who both went through the program
| 11/9 | Interviewing at UNC. It's my number one program but I feel like I've only been invited as a formality since I did a rotation there and sent an LOI. Alas | But if they rank you, that's not a formality! Rank them how you want to rank them and see what the algorithm comes up with :) << cheers <3 // They don't interview everyone who does an away :( // if you get an interview you're a step ahead of everyone who didn't get one (like me!)
| 11/8 | Has anyone considered throwing in a few more applications at this stage in the game? Is it worth it at this point? Will programs still look at your app? | I have definitely considered it, but I feel like the yield at this point might not be worth it.//I think a lot of programs had a Nov 1st application deadline. //I sent out some 2 days ago and got one, not much of a yield, but better than none // I sent one a few weeks ago but then got waitlisted only to realize that they didn't have many IV dates left. I'd recommend double checking their dates first.
| 11/8 | Which programs have more of a primary care focus? | Buffalo, Hopkins, Sinai
| 11/7 | Are interview dates updated for Michigan? | Per interview broker, all dates are full
| 11/6 | anybody got a link for the Vanderbilt program page? every link I find is dead | Think the entire website is broken and has been for a while. Luckily they do great info sessions before the actual interviews! << https://medicine.vumc.org/message-director https://medicine.vumc.org/internal-medicine-and-pediatrics-residency-program
| 11/5 | Anyone know the time for the USC (california) interview and the time of the dinner? | 7 am interview and 630 pm dinner
| 11/5 | anyone aware of the time of the dinner for Arizona? | It was at 6:00 for me, but it may vary because the one I went to was also their Thanksgiving dinner at a resident's house
| 11/5 | Anyone interview with Miami yet? When is the dinner? | The night before at 6:30
| 11/4 | Anyone had any luck with trickle interview invitations? I haven't gotten an invitation for med-peds since 9/24 and I'm still waiting on two of my top programs. | I had 1 invitation thus far since 9/30 at UMich on 10/29. In fact, it was one of the LOI I sent out a week prior. Otherwise, no other offers
| 11/1 | What time does the Oklahoma University interview day end? | 2:30 - 3:00:00 PM | 11/4
| 11/1 | Anyone have any insight on UTexas Houston's program? +1
| 10/31 | Penn/CHOP full? | still showing Monday Nov 4 with 3 open spots, but otherwise all full
| 10/30 | Just wanted to add my voice to what's already been said -- please update your program numbers so we can get an idea of how many progrmas people are sitting on and if there is potential for waitlist shifting. Thank you! | I'm not sitting on any extra IV's (<5 total) BUT waitlists are def shifting, got a few spots in the past few days // Sitting at 15 IVs, but will be most likely canceling two more// Dropped 2 IV's scheduled for Dec/Jan, good luck on the interview trail
| 10/30 | Would it be possible to mark down 12 v 16 month internship somewhere? | That's a good idea, maybe we can add it to the IV Review
| 10/30 | PLEASE UPDATE REJECTIONS COLUMN ON IV TAB IF YOU CAN - thanks | am I on the only one doing this seems like no one else updates
| 10/29 | Has anyone heard any more info from Brown or BWH in regards to dinner/schedule?
| 10/29 | Is it ok to reach out to some programs to see if any of their residents are willing to host? | yes some residents will host won't hurt to ask
| 10/28 | Another reminder to check the IV Swap tab!
| 10/28 | how bad is it to cancel an interview that I had for this friday? | Not great, probably more depends on the reason why. If you must do it, do it ASAP so they can give another person a chance to interview< thanks! i've sent them various emails but no one responds. < you can also call them if they have a number listed
| 10/27 | I am dual-applying med-peds and IM. At two universities I am interviewing for both programs. How are people in this situation approaching this and addressing questions like why IM vs med-peds? | Just be honest, most programs know that many dual apply. < good advice, thanks / I don't plan to bring it up unless I'm directly asked. I don't want to distract from the main point of the interview, which is why I would be good for the program and vice versa.
| 10/25 | Since Med/Peds has so few programs, can we expect any trickle interviews at this point? Most people probably won't drop any more programs at this point right? | There are still people sitting on like 25+ interviews so I'm hoping some of those folks will drop. < hope so!< Do you personally know people who are sitting on so many? < Nope just blindly trusting the the information on the spreadsheet < I will almost definitely be dropping a few more, but couples matching and trying to iron out a few more places between waitlists and not hearing back yet< I just dropped 5 places so best of luck! Also, at the PD meeting in NMPRA conference, they said the waitlist will start moving pretty fast around this time | <Thanks for hte update everyone!
| 10/25 | Any thoughts on the Uof I Peoria program? *also wondering | They have "eICU attendings" from 7pm-7am each day. I'm not sure if this is important to you, but I think it's important to have an attending physician who is physically present throughout the night if anything is needed. // Gave me a religious vibe // second the religious vibe (they don't do birth control) // Third that religious vibe... had a strange convo with a faculty member about it really put me off
| 10/25 | I saw that you should send an email when you drop an IV--I plan on dropping several today. what do you say in these emails?? | Something along the lines of "due to scheduling conflicts, I will no longer be able to participate in an interview with your program. Thank you for considering me and I wish you the best during the rest of the interview season."
| 10/25 | This lack of waitlist movement is... discouraging +5
| 10/25 | Has anyone interviewed at Vanderbilt yet? Could you update the interview impression if you can? Thanks!! | Great hospital, doesn't see many uninsured/underinsured patients, great faculty/PD/residents, Nashville is a nice city, affordable with lots of things to do in the area, great for people our age.
| 10/25 | Any last minute costume ideas for a pixar themed post-interview dinner? | Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc! You could just wear a light green shirt with a paper eyeball on it.//White turtleneck and pants and a dog post surgical cone collar to go as the lamp.//I wasn't planning on dressing up because I can't think of a costume I could put together in time.//Has anyone heard anything about getting a ride to the interview dinner with MP residents?
| 10/24 | Pretty please check the IV swap tab and help if you can!
| 10/24 | Does UCLA offer free/discounted hotel stay? | Their interview sheet linked to here: https://www.uclahealth.org/lodging They also said that some residents can host applicants<<Thanks
| 10/23 | Anyone who's interviewing at Arizona next week received any info on the interview day/dinner? | Interview 7am-230pm!
| 10/23 | does anyone have information for the univ of miami interview time frame? trying to make travel plans but havent received any details yet, hoping someone with an earlier date has? thanks! | 645am to 330pm <THANKS!
| 10/23 | Does anyone know anything Stony Brook? I'm having trouble finding past interview/student impressions *also wondering
| 10/23 | I made a cancellation tab. Please fill it out as you cancel interviews :)
| PLEASE UPDATE REJECTIONS COLUMN ON IV TAB IF YOU CAN - thanks
| 10/22 | Anyone had any success with "in the area" emails? | I'm 0/1 edit: 1/1!//woo congrats, seeing this made me so happy! < thanks :) // Sent an email of interest one week ago and was sent an invite yesterday! | Decided to bite the bullet and sent one to UCLA, fingers crossed.< I'll pray for you
| 10/22 | Anyone sent a LOI to Memphis? Folks interviewing there, do you have any updates? | I sent one a while back, never got a reaponse, but then was offered an interview +1
| 10/22 | People who have sent LOIs, any responses (positive or negative) after sending them? | Got an interview from Chicago two days after sending an LOI // sent two, got a response to one that they were still reviewing apps. No IV's so far // From the 5 LOIs I sent, I got 1 invite and 1 rejection and 1 "we're still reviewing apps" // Currently 1/2; sent them an email last week and got an interview from UMich yesterday! | got 3 interviews from LOI!< Are these to programs that you are "out of region" to?
| 10/22 | Anyone with new offers/rejections this week? | Got an invite from Rutgers this AM (10/22) but all slots were already full//two this week but I was already on the waitlist for both
| 10/22 | Sent an LOI to Brown and IU, pray for ya boi <3 | good luck!! < thanks
| Any opinions on the diffrences between the two Boston programs (BWH, MGH)? It seems like there is a good bit of overlap | Pure speculation, but it seems like the BWH might have stronger peds since that one goes to BCH? <----- This is also my impression after reading over both program websites and talking to med/peds residents who went there <--- this is indeed the reputation. also MGH feels a bit more primary-care focused vs BWH which sends a lot of their residents to specialties afterward, though of course this is not always the case and is just a generalization | 10/17
| Which programs have big differences in reputation between medicine and peds (IE medicine is really good but peds is meh and vice versa)? | Cincinnati (great peds)
| Very few of us in here so far, invite all the Med-Peds people you know!
| For school rank, what is that based on? Trying to accurately portray myself | Probably just US News/general reputation. Also has a lot to do with research and grant money the program brings in.
| For you all that did >30 apps, is that just Med-Peds or dual applying? | Just Med-Peds, but I'm one of the DO students (+1)//Just Med-Peds < +1 // Just Med-Peds// just med-peds but couples matching (x2)//Just Med-Peds// Med-peds + 9 categorical peds due to location limitations//Med-peds plus dual apply peds//Med-Peds but from the PNW and a DO student // MedPeds + 15 in FM
| Any ideas on if this is a "competitive" year for med-peds or not? | We would have to know how many people applied to med-peds. Might be of benefit to talk to a PD you know and see if they noticed any increase/decrease in application numbers | <--Talked to the Indiana University PD and he said that based on the number of apps they have received, he would call this a typical year for MP, and he said that the numbers at IU almost always reflect the numbers nationally.
| Can someone explain the difference between the initial offer date and subsequent offer dates? | I'm taking it as initial is their first round of offers, then subsequent being the date when they send out the next round? x1
| On the "IV Dates" sheet, what does the "Total #" column mean? | total number of people that got an interview invite at least im assuming?
| All the IV dates for LSU New Orleans are full and there is no longer an option for waitlist. What are the chances of waitlist spots opening up? | 8.62 +/- 1%/ I may end up canceling my interview here (December date) depending on what other offers I get! I know that does not help you all that much but I bet other people are taking that approach too (+3)
| Didn't get an Indiana University invite on 9/20 like others. Do you think they send out more invites soon? | Their interview email said "Our program is aware of the stressors associated with interview season and in an effort to alleviate applicant stress, we will not offer more interview invitations than available spots, nor will we withdraw an offer if you do not respond to the invitation immediately." So, I'd imagine they'll wait a little while before the next batch, but it does sound like there are more. // just got one on 9/27
| For the programs that include accomodations for the night before, does it usually involve sharing the room? | it is your own room
| Is regional bias a big thing in Med/Peds? Northeast applicant here with no interviews from programs in the midwest and the south | Not sure. I am a midwest candidate and have not gotten interviews at some of the midwest programs that have already sent out invites. I do have some interviews from other midwest programs though// Not sure. I am from the South and I have received some interviews from programs in the Midwest//I heard this was the case from my PD just because each program interviews a fewer number of people, but have gotten some outside my region // I'm from the Pacific NW where there are zero programs and I have a few interviews. I'm sure there is some bias out there though. | I think this bias is pretty real from my experience. From the West and have got a higher proportion from there | Bias may not be the key word--some programs like to keep people who they know have a good chance of staying in the general area or if you plan on just taking off to a completely different part of the country. This said, it actually can look bad for a program to accept their own students as the majority. I'm told the best ratio is 33% their own, in general, and the rest outside students. Even so, many programs prefer applicants from their general region.
| Anybody know if Minnesota will be sending out any more invites? | I HOPE SO!!! (Looks like they still have many open interview dates)// I sure hope so as well. Was really looking forward to interviewing here//Also hoping for an invite, I've heard such good things about this program!!// In the email they sent out with the invite yesterday they said they will send out the majority of the invites after october 1st! <== <3
| What is the difference between the two Cleveland programs? Does one have a better reputation than the other? | My understanding is that MetroHealth has more of a community hospital feel but I'm saying that as someone who once talked to a fellow who trained at Case and has no other connections to the school | MetroHealth has an emphasis on primary/underserved care and UH/Rainbow has emphasis on academics/specialty training
| How is it that Christiana Care has Med-Peds but no Pediatric residency program? | peds is through DuPont residency
| For people that dual-applied into one of the categorical programs, are you planning on emailing the categorical program for a status update if you have an interview for the med-peds program?
| if a program has all interview dates full... is that essentially no hope for anymore interview offers? | Which program is this?//There's still hope some people will cancel interviews as they get more invities from other programs.
| Didn't Tufts University have a med-peds program? | Yes, it's now called UMMS Baystate | < Also, maine medical center is affiliated with the Tufts SOM Maine Track.
| Anyone know if most med-peds programs are still reviewing apps? | On 9/24: I'm not sure exactly what your threshold for "most" is but it seems like many programs have not sent out many (or any!) interview invites yet so I think they probably are! It looks like a few have totally full dates but my uneducated guess is they'll continue to review applications and send out invites when people cancel. // I got one and got a spot on 10/15, even so I've been told by a number of residents and attendings that they get invites as late as even early Dec! // Got interview offer today (10/17), places are still reviewing
| Does the University of Puerto Rico Med-Peds program still exist? They're not on this list, nor do they have a site or much info outside of the PC contact | Still on ERAS so I am assuming they will be accepting residents this year.
| I received an email from UMMS Baystate PD on 9/20 saying that they would send a follow up formal interview request "shortly", but no follow up email has been sent and it is now 9/25. Should I email them and ask about what's going on? | I got the same email with no follow up <- I got an email 9/17 and they said the formal interview would be coming towards the end of this week | Just got the invite today! (9/25 8:30am)
| Is BWH really sending out interviews already? Their website says they don't start sending invites until October 15th. They also only had four interview dates last year, and someone has listed a ton of dates that are supposedly available for this year. Something isn't adding up. | According to last year's spreadsheet, their first interview offer came on 10/23, agreed it doesnt add up; I think someone accidentally put the dates UMMS baystae in MGH's interview date spot, and probably accidentally added their interview to the wrong row :)//I was wondering if that was what had happened, thanks!
| Does anyone have access to last year's google doc so we could see when each program sent out the initial invites? | https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1P_-60aRx8z3Kd6UZENhrkYReRnFx6PmhC1fwzqUkQfs/edit#gid=1250517677 | <<--a lot still left to come!
| Also, probably silly question, but my school doesn't have med-peds so I'm not entirely sure. For programs that are more "primary care" oriented (EG Sinai), does that mean exclusively outpatient primary care stuff? Or could you be interested in hospital medicine and have that also be primary care? At my school, the county hospital primary care clinics are often staffed by inpatient docs with clinic days. Also, how sure do you you have to be? I wouldn't want to take the spot of someone who was positive, but it is hard to sincerely say what I am interested in when I have had such little exposure to the different careers... | The one program I know for sure will not even look at your app if you say anything about subspecializing and so forth is John Hopkins, they are primary only
| for those that got interviews at UChicago, mind sharing (generally) your stats if you feel comfortable? Just curious! | step 1 in the 240s with step 2 in the 250s (+1). Personal statement and CV heavily sprinkled with transitonal care and medical education interest/experience <--thanks! //
| Any IV dates left for UCincinnati? | No, all dates are full (as of 9/25) greatttttttttt - - :( // ugh so annoyed by this. I have a strong connection to Cincy and have yet to hear from them (+3) | all full, but all also available to waitlist!
| Please keep updating which days are available for interviews at places you receive invites. This is helpful for the rest of us who haven't gotten many yet :/ | YES PLEASE
| Is it just me or does it seem like the pace of II's is slowing down? First wave might be ending until MSPE's come out October 1? | slowed down seriously for me this week and i see programs still sending out so PANICKING (+5) // YALL just wait until after the first week of Oct to panic // also everyone remember that per last year's spreadsheet, almost all of the programs had spots open up later in the cycle with additional interview days as well! My friend who applied last year to MP was still getting interviews into November. | <--Would post Oct 8 be too late to apply to other categoricals? I threw in my application at a couple more peds programs yesterday. gave me some peace of mind.
| any idea on how many dates still open at loyola or rush? | 5 dates still open for Rush (12/6, 12/10, 12/13, 12/17, 1/7), all dates available for Loyola except 10/24 has a wl
| How many contiguous ranks to match for med-peds, anyone know? | Mean number for MDs that successfully matched is 11 in 2018. NRMP website has charting outcomes for med-peds depending if you're MD/DO/IMG http://www.nrmp.org/main-residency-match-data/
| For U Chicago interviews, after submitting the requests online does anyone know when we hear back for when our interview date is? This might be a dumb question | not a dumb question, i'm also wondering about this too; samesies. I'm hoping for a couple of days turn-around.// just got an email (9/26 @ 4pm) confirming my date!! (+1) | <<How many days did it end up taking for you guys to get a confirmation of your date? << about 24 hours
| Has anyone else noticed that there are approximately twice as many people who filled out the "Applicants" tab on this year's spreadsheet compared to last year's spreadsheet? Do you think it's due to more medical students using r/medicalschool? Or more Med-Peds applicants this year? | More people on Reddit - the average applicant here is still getting tons of interviews and it's still September, I wouldn't jump to assuming it will be harder to match, I think there's a report released sometime in October with data on application numbers so far for this cycle, look out for that --- plus, there are still <50 people on here! | Where would one find this report once it comes out in October?
| What dates still open for Maryland? | All but Oct 24th
| Has anyone's interview been confirmed by University of Kentucky? I haven't gotten a response... | I just sent an email to the address they provided and have heard absolutely nothing since.... So we're in this together if that helps lol<--Same (+2) | sent out responses today (9/30)
| Does anyone know when the Marshfield Clinic sends out interview invites? One I'm really interested in.. | What about Marshfield Clinic makes you interested in it? Very curious as a Wisconsinite who did not apply there << rural health focus | Sent 10/1
| What are the benefits of choosing a community program over a university program, if any? (Considering fellowship after residency) | If your into fellowships that they don't offer at the community program, consider going to the university instead. My attendings told me to avoid university medicine if I'm going into primary/hospital medicine to avoid the egos and drama. That was just one person's opinion though.
| To people with an interview at Rochester: how long after the call did your scheduling email arrive? | Got the call yesterday (9/30) afternoon, email came at 8AM this morning (10/1) | <Thanks! Also got the email this morning.
| your PD could sink your chances for fellowships with a bad letter and calls to other places // I asked, "little/no support will be given if you opt out of primary care." I heard Hopkins is like this too//Thanks for this! Now I know where to put them on my list. So sad....such an amazing program smh // just want to +1 that primary care only, oh well // someone answered this way earlier in the season it seems (below around row 215 unless more rows get added) here it is copy/pasted, "1. Very 2. Not if you're reasonably likely to do fellowship/hospitalist medicine. I got an email from PD that stated it pretty explicitly. " | 1. Very 2. Not if you're reasonably likely to do fellowship/hospitalist medicine. I got an email from PD that stated it pretty explicitly.
| for those who have interviews in california and texas, are most of y'all connected to the region in some way? | 2x interviews in Texas, no connections // No interviews yet from California for me but one in Texas. I have extended family there but not close to the city I am interviewing in.// 1 in Cali; not from Cali but I am doing an AI there // Two interviews in Texas, from neighboring state // I have two interviews in CA and I have no connection other than living on the west coast//1 interview in TX and 2 in CA and lived in one or the other most my life | Looks like only 1-2 programs in Cali have started giving II's right?
| Any interview spots left at Minnesota or Chicago or Michigan? | Lots left for MN, they have an "early interview process" that allows lots of time to schedule//as of 10/15 MN is now full | what honestly every program should do!
| Are there any available spots at Loyola? Or are interview dates all full? | All waitlist, this makes me want to cry
| Likelihood of anybody getting off the waitlist at Maine?
| Would love to see some more info on the Ms4 impressions tab!! | AMEN
| Any chance of getting off Loyola's waitlist?? | Depending on how the next few weeks go I may drop my Loyola interview, so there's definitely a chance for those on the waitlist. (+2)
| Anyone had any luck scheduling an interview for University of Arizona? I tried to schedule within 15 minutes of receiving the e-mail and it said "no longer available". I know some of you have said you had the same problem. So far it looks like only one person on here was able to schedule it and they did so within the first 5 minutes of the e-mail. I e-mailed and called the program coordinator and haven't heard back. | i scheduled an interview with probably 3 minutes of getting the invite. from my understanding, it looks like all the interview spots and designated waitlist spots are taken....Has anyone heard back from the coordinator / PD?// anyone heard back from the PD or coordinator? (+2) Nothing yet. 10/3 | <-- still haven't heard back from anyone. But honestly if the admin is this non-responsive the questions/concerns of applicants, I can only imagine how disasterous it'd be as a resident there. Def not trying to deal with this for 4 years. Thank you, next lol // << true hero! // found someome on here to swap dates with me and coordinator responded to decline the request due to “so much interest in the program” // BAHAHAHAHA BYE
| Fix the interview sheet. You know who you are. | Ugh ya'll I fixed the mess that was happening earlier and set it to filter mode so that it could be easily sorted but it looks like someone decided to circumvent the filter and sort on their own. I'll fix it again but if you want to sort, click on the lines for each header and you can sort that way. --> Fixed. Use the sorting features in the header if you're going to sort, my friends. // PEOPLE! STOP TURNING OFF THE FILTER!
| Does anyone have a sense of interview space at Yale? (+4) (please?) | Got the invite today (10/7)- looks like everything is filled. The last 2 interview days are not available to be scheduled though.
| How/Why is Rochester ranked #1 Med-Peds program in the country on Doximity? | Prestige of the program and it's one of the oldest MP programs
| Someone added a column on the applicants tab to say specifically where they are interviewing. How do people feel about this? I feel like it makes it a little too easy for programs to identify who's who if they decide to look at this spreadsheet, but maybe I'm just being paranoid? | All the info shared is optional, seems a little paranoid, I don't see why programs would be spending time on Reddit looking for where people are applying. Other specialties have this column and readily share (e.g. OB). +1 Also, PDs talk to each other,...if they really wanted to know, they would ask. | << All very true. Didn't realize other specialties did this. Thanks!
| For people who are dual-applying at the same institution, are you trying to interview on the same day? | I would ask both coordinators if that would work for schedules, but my school's PD said many programs try to accomodate that because they know traveling twice to the same place can be alot. Worst they can say is no. You can also try to get the two interviews back to back or as close to each other as possible. | << Thought dual-applying to the same institution was highly discouraged. Is this less of an issue if you are dual applying into categorical medicine and/or peds?
| Last year's Reddit average was 16 interviews, we're at an average of 11 now, so about 5 more per person hopefully! | But is that an average of 16 offered, or 16 completed? How many do people usually attend? << Average rank list was 12, I heard people rank almost every program they visit
| brown stats? | step 1/2 in 250s, fair amount of research/ volunteer activities <<x2
| Anyone know anything about this USC accreditation thing in the email? | https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-usc-fellowship-accreditation-loss-20190425-story.html | Might just be the cardiology fellowship... but not sure (https://www.modernhealthcare.com/safety-quality/usc-medical-program-loses-national-accreditation) << It's just the cardiology fellowship.<<I thought the other programs are on probation now too?//there was an issue with their cards fellowship only, no issues with med-peds
| Should I really care about a program's rank on Doximity? | No << Agreed. Doximity's rankings depend upon self review of the programs by current and former residents. That's how obscure programs end up with higher rankings than universally respected ones.
| UofC stats and dates still open? | Not sure about open dates, but my stats were 260s/270s, AOA <<wow you is smart <<<lol best comment award<< LOLZ
| Do you think there are still interview invites waiting to go out? | Yes

| Please share stats for MGH, if you got the II today | I thought they were sending them out 10/18? | <- i think thats the IM program? (i haven't heard anything) | < thanks my mistake
| Do most schools still have open interview dates - ie are most places still sending out invites? The spreadsheet seems to say so, but not sure how updated it is. | I think most are full // hard to say what is happening at "most" schools but from looking at the spreadsheet there are still spots open at a number of programs
| Spots left at Jackson Memorial? | only Nov 7 open
| For those couples matching: what is the appropriate timing for emailing regarding request for interview for a significant other? | My husband and I have already been sending out emails to programs. As soon as possible is the impression I've gotten. Worse they can say is that they aren't sending invites yet and they'll let you know when they do. (+1)
| What time of day did UCSD send out invites? | I got mine around 1pm pacific time | <- stats? // usmle 227/252, 3/6 honors, gold humanism, top 25 school, OOS but west coast | << you are a human made out of literal gold. congratulations!
| Anyone hear from UNC? | Yes, received an II on 9/25 < are they full? << can't tell since they sent out invites by email :/ << just got on IV on 10/11, all dates were still listed as available in the email
| Anyone know if there are spots left at Sinai? | More invites are coming out! (10/9)
| Spots left at UPMC? | As of right now, there are 3 spots remaining. But only 5 dates with 10 people each were offered, so they could open up more dates in the future.
| I'm thinking it's cleaner to delete your IV swap request if it's been resolved rather than keeping a growing list, any objections? | No objections (2+) <--sounds good; I cleaned up the IV swap tab
| Folks invited to Colorado, what are your stats? | 250/260, OOS +1, 230s/Na OOS || 227/250, OOS || 240s/250s, AOA, LOR from a dean who used to work there
| Anyone else had pretty much complete silence since the MSPE came out? I was getting plenty of invites but then they suddenly stopped and it's been over a week. +1 | Yup, many programs seem mostly done unless people start dropping interviews, except those few late ones//Ive received a couple but definitely more silence and one was waitlist.
| How may interviews are most people planning to actually attend? It looks like some people are scheduled for 20+? | 15 // 10 // 10 //12// 12-13 // 12 //10-12//12//16//10-12// 15 | Thank you!
| MSU -> anyone know of any openings? | Which MSU? If you're referring to Spectrum Health- according to FREIDA, they only interviewed 35 people last year but i'm not sure if they're planning on sending out additional interviews or not
| I just wana say this thread is so much more chill compared to other specialities haha I know medpeds folks are my people | <3, wootwoot! // you have be pretty chill to tolerate both screaming babies AND old people feet // Just burst out in laughter at "old people feet". But yeah, loving the Med-Peds community. :-)
| Anyone know if any open spots at UIC? | 11/7 still available, all others WL
| Is it a good idea for me to sent a LOI to UNC? I am an IMG from Europe who rotated there. Met with the PD and he said he'd be happy to have me for an interview. Nothing so far tho. | I'd say yes, go for it. << No response so far...F<< Looks like they released invites today, hope you got one! +1 << I GOT ONE :))))))) !!!!<< Congrats!!!
| The champs who got IIs from UCLA, mind sharing stats? | high 240s/260s, not AOA, OOS. But also there are still plenty of open dates! | <= hoping for dat second california wave - based on the thalamus calendar situation I'm pretty sure one is coming! good luck! // did not catch that gnar brah
| Anyone hear anything from MUSC since 9/20? | No still waiting to hear <-- WL email today (10/14) +2 | Rejection today 10/14 :-(
| anyone have any idea when to expect the Penn/Harvard/Vandy wave? generally? | Next week probably
| Do we think there will be more waves of IV's? I have heard 0 for two weeks... :( | yes // losing faith, been 2 weeks for me too, this might be it except for the gems who get Vandy/Penn/Harvard. | i think there will be more! I'm dropping 3-4 next week probably! (+2) also, looking back, there are a decent number of open dates at most programs (UCLA, USC, etc)
| Anyone know if some programs randomly invite on the weekend? It happened to a friend of mine but they are a different specialty, wondering about us in MP? | I got an invite a few weeks ago on a Sunday night ~10p EST but I think that was the only weekend one | I got one on a Saturday from U Tennessee// I've gotten two on weekends, both sunday rather late like 5pm and 9pm CST
| What are people using to track programs? I know there's the PRISM app but does anyone have a personal document you're willing to share? | What features are you looking for in a document?/// answer- I made a word doc that has things for call schedule, patient caps on teams, amt of residents taken every year, pros/cons, city location. I just wanted to see what others were using to see if theres other things that I wasnt looking for or a more efficient format.//Gotcha, actually planning on making something this monday during a flight. I can send you whatever I put together. | would love to see this too (+2)
| folks with mgh invites yesterday- did you get confirmation of your date? filled out the Google form in post-call delirium and now wondering if I didn't actually sumbit it... | Nope, I didn't get a date confirmation either! <-- they will send you a confirmation via ERAS 2-3 days post-submission of google form (don't worry!) <- any idea how likely it is to get your first choice date (sorry i know that's probably nearly impossible to know)// I responded within 1 hour of receiving invite and got my first choice, but hard to say - fingers crossed! <- thanks! it worked out :) | Congrats you all on the MGH invites!
| Does anyone know why Oklahoma has so many IMGs? Not that I’m against it at all... I just wonder how I would fit in | location? Also, I know there's a stigma against IMG's, but most of the people that match have USMLE scores > 250, so they're not bad candidates.
| can anyone update Michigan IV availability? 💗 | updated as of 10/13<-- thanks!
| If missing the applicant dinner really frowned upon? | Do you have a good reason for missing? If not, go. <It's because of back to back interview. I'm trying hard to reschedule the second one but there aren't any available dates. Wondering if I should just cancel the first one because I like the other program more//I don't know about Med-Peds but mentors from other specialties have told me that the dinner is incredibly important. I know it would be incredibly hard to cancel an interview depending on the program/your interview opportunites. Good luck, hope the decision is made easy somehow.<<Thanks!! // I imagine every program is different. I was an IM program coordinator and we didn't know who went to the dinners and who didn't; we recognized that travel plans were crazy and it was more for applicants to hear from residents without faculty present. | Does anyone know about asking programs to go to a dinner a different night during the interview season if you cannot make one the night before your interview? I'm interviewing for peds at USCF, and they said you could drop in on any interview happenings if you were in the area throughout the season! // Just ask. It probably wouldn't be a problem.
| In the UCSD waitlist email I did not see a link or an email to submit dates to. How do you give them your preferences?!?! | it says to email them back with dates // I replied within the ERAS messaging system // I emailed the program coordinator's email from the website
| Because Med-Peds programs are so small, how many specific MP IVs are you trying to go on (this is assuming you're also applying IM or Peds categorical, so need to save room for some of those too?) | I'm trying to do 8-10 MP and 2-4 Peds (not including home institution, which I really don't wanna go to lol)//Goal is 10// currently thinking of doing 15! // NRMP says 10-12 is the sweet spot, but it probably varies depending on your competitiveness and the competitiveness of the programs you're looking at. My goal is 10-12 med peds. One of our advisors said that if you are dual applying you should shoot for the recommended targets in each specialty but I am also just interviewing at a few IM programs in my geographic region because I think I have a good chance of matching at one of them if I choose to. << THANK YOU. I had been told to interview at the target numbers for both, which means 22 or so interviews; the price tag of actually doing that would be unbelievable. | Thanks! I was hoping 10 MP and then to add Peds on from there, so that's great to get see we're thinking along the same lines. <<My understanding is it should be good if you get to rank 10-12 programs regardless of how many specicialties. You just get matched into a program you ranked (higher) regardless of specialty. Your ROL would be probably mixed; not all in one specialty then the others. | planning on 11 MP so far and 3 IM
| Anyone planning to cancel interviews this week? WL at a couple of places and trying not to be too hopeful +2 | Yes! I'm cancelling Ohio State, UT Houston, VCU, Georgetown, Indianna, and maybe some others tomorrow. << Dropped 2 late last week and will probably drop 3-4 more this week | I WANT DAT OSU DATE
| Can someone update the Colorado and UCLA availability? Thx! (Unless it's already up to date, then nevermind!) | ucla updated! colorado updated!
| Are there any spots open at Rutgers? | No, they're full per the PD as of 10/7 :/ | Thank You :/
| Can someone update Jackson Memorial dates? +1 | updated as of 10/15 (11/7 still open)
| Is Vandy dishing out IIs and rejections on the same day? | They're definitely handing out waitlists today...
| So uhhhh you folks sitting at 20+ IVs gonna share that bread with the rest of us? | Plz cancel Vandy thank you // Guy with 29 interviews please cancel more than just 1 interview, I mean come on, 29!! You'll match 3 times!! the date options don't even work for you to do all of those!! | just cancelled 2 IVs today, hope one of you guys get it! :) +1! // Cancelled 3 today!
| did people get vandy interview confirmations? | No haven't received anything yet :/ +1
| THIS DOCUMENT HAS BEEN CREATED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL IS VIEW ONLY...WELCOME | Thanks!!!//thanks, I changed the original back to editable like three times yesterday but someone kept changing it to view only | << They changed it to completely deny access today without permission | y tho? // thats the million dollar question // somebody's salty
| I'm having trouble finding a couple details while interview planning: anyone know what Arizona does for hotel? (they pay or have any discounts?). Anyone know the average start-end time of the U Tennessee interview day? | No hotel/discounts for Arizona as far as I can tell. 7-4 at UTMemphis//Thanks!
| How common is it to come off of the WL at places? | << Hasn't happened to me yet, low sample size. // Same//Minnesota straight up says in their waitlist email that typically everyone who is waitlisted gets an interview in the end. // I got off a waitlist in Missouri. // I've come off the waitlist for IM, but not for MP // Got off the WL at Loyala//Got off the WL at UCSD and Vanderbilt today
| Any spots left at UPMC? | One single open slot on 12/6, that is all.
| Does anyone feel that dual-applying to the same institution has affected your chances in getting an interview? I've been fortunate in getting a pretty good interview yield but that proportion is really low in the places I dual applied to. It could have been confounded by how I only dual-applied to coastal programs though... | I was discouraged from dual-applying to the same institution by the Med-Peds PD at my home institution, but it sounds like it's actually fairly common to do that? So who knows. / My PD said that dual-applying doesn't affect how they look at you because it's so common - I've gotten 5/8 sets of dual-applied interviews so far. | I dual applied to 4 institutions: 2 interview for both programs, 1 med-peds only, 1 peds only // I talked to a few PDs about this and they all said it was acceptable as long as you can explain why you did it
| Got an MGH rejection =( | welcome to the club! // most people probably did also // Sameee
| Anybody know when BWH will come out? | Today apparently// how many out there have gotten invites | hmmm...
| Is there any benefit if a program is affilitated with a VA hospital? | Depends what you're interested in. If you want to work with veterans and get bread and butter IM (COPD, HF, MI), then it's great. If you haven't worked at a VA before, know that their EMR is garbage and there are some things that are very difficult to accomplish there. I personally love the VA despite its many flaws. | I've heard residents at various programs that the training at the VA is great. Lots of learning, very fast. So especially great for intern year. Also lots of autonomy.
| Are there any programs that dedicate more time to Transition Care or is that something I should expect from all MedPeds programs? | some programs have a dedicated transitional care clinics, others dont. But its a med peds thing so every program dedicates time to it, just might be during regular continunity clinic
| Anyone hear anything from University of South Florida? (+1)Whenever I try calling, can't reach program coordinator. | Sent an LOI last week and haven't heard anything. (+1)
| Can anyone update Sinai availability? thx
| I am still hoping for brown and indiana. Should I sent a LOI? Any realistic chance there're still more spots? | I sent an LOI to Brown over a week ago and have heard nothing, but I think it's always worth a shot to send them // I sent one to Indiana and haven't heard anything, but I agree that it can't hurt
| Haven't heard from Rush/UChicago yet and I'm heartbroken. Anyone thinking about dropping either of those interviews? (Wishful thinking...) | I dropped Rush! 💖 good luck <-- Thank you, kind stranger! :)
| Is the hotel cost covered by U of Kentucky? | Pretty sure, yeah. And they don't serve breakfast because there's continental breakfast at the hotel. They do have coffee though. << Thank you!
| Hmm. Someone deleted my comment. I'll ask again that if you're a competitive applicant sitting at 20+ interviews, please consider dropping some interviews. You are basically guaranteed to match with 12 programs on your rank list and hoarding interviews means that other folks may not get the chance to interview at a program they feel strongly about. I understand wanting to keep your options open, but please consider your fellow applicants in this process! | This was a good reminder. Just cancelled several. Good luck! <= Thank you friend!
| Anyone have a packing list for interview travel?
| Hey BWH people: are the interviews on interview broker all full? | yes
| Can someone update Penn/CHOP availability, if it's not already up to date? | three open spots on Nov 4. all the rest full it seems//thanks!
| Be sure to update Post-IV now that interviews are really in full swing! | Good luck everyone!
| If I decided to cancel an interview and it was through a website like ERAS, Broker, etc. should I still email the program as a courtesy to let them know that I cancelled? | Yeah I would, it is common courtesy
| Can we write the new comments on top like they do it in the internal medicine spreadhseet? And also create a tab for the IV cancellations? | Love this idea // great idea!!
| LETS TRY SOMETHING NEW. ADD ALL NEW COMMENTS ABOVE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CHAT AT THE TOP - WITH THE DATE YOU ADD IT.
