When Gina had her first child 16 years ago, she tried breastfeeding but failed. Feeling guilty and upset, she was determined to do so with her three other subsequent children – and succeeded! Back then, there was a lack of support for new mothers. Today, Gina leads a team of breastfeeding advocates, training them to better support and serve other mothers through her Breastfeeding Network Advocates Facebook support group. The group offers information, counselling, and support services on breastfeeding issues and has about 20,000 members – with numbers growing daily. “I am passionate about breastfeeding because I believe it’s every baby’s birthright,” shares Gina. "Once the babies are delivered, I’m their cheerleader. That’s all these women need – someone who believes in them.”||Meeting Room Level 2|

|3.30pm - 4.30pm||Free Talk 4 : Gentle Birth - Joanna Cheryan (GBG)||Joanna Cheryan is a mother of 4 small children and a passionate Gentle Birth advocate. From the birth of her first son - a waterbirth in the Netherlands - she knew that birth was not meant to be the frightening and traumatic experience so many women have to go through. When she married a Malaysian and moved to KL 7 years ago, she discovered to her dismay, that the choices available to her and other mothers were very limited. So together with a few other like-minded women she decided that things needed to change - and from those initial meetings over coffee, the Gentle Birthing Group, Malaysia was formed. Since it's conception, the group has reached thousands of mothers, educating, supporting and inspiring them to have positive and gentle births. The GBG was also instrumental in bringing water birth to Pantai Hospital KL, and Joanna's 3rd baby was the first water- birth at the hospital. Since then, Joanna and the GBG team have appeared on radio and TV and on numerous occasions in the national newspapers. Joanna firmly believes that every mother has the right to a safe, gentle and joyful birth experience - and that with the right knowledge and preparation, almost every woman can achieve that.||Crystal 8|
