Just about every time a biker stops at Helvetia I refill their water bottle and tell them what you are doing and they are all super impressed! I love you so much and am so proud of you- it is so special to have a dad who is working hard to get those girls free from slavery... the cause/organization you are supporting is amazing! We are giving our $100 gift today in honor of your birthday. We love you and I am praying for a safe arrival in Oregon!!!

You've been in Joe's annual fishing stomping grounds on Brownlee Reservoir! Unfortunately haven't been able to keep up with your journey so much as we're just back from our Canadian RV Adventure. Definitely weren't roughing it as much as you are! Looks like you're making great progress. If you land in Florence on a weekend day, we'll join in the welcoming party! Safe travels across our great state! Hugs, C.

7/26/2014 6:58:13Bonnie - Jon's sisterJust want you all to know that you are going to have to keep riding forever - like Forrest Gump did when he ran back and forth across the country. Why? Because reading your blogs with my morning coffee has become part of my daily routine. Game? I really enjoy traveling along with you - and can't believe the :"sameness" of your roads and photos. Only you can see the subtle differences!
53

7/16/2014 6:08:22Bret FreitagHi Care Group troops-

we have had a very busy past 3 weeks so I am finally just beginning to catch up with the grand adventure and reading the past blogs. So glad to see there have been no major misadventures and so much interesting history so far! I think that Jon's performance on the dulcimer would make a good ring tone. Please keep the updates coming. We miss you guys and look forward to hearing the best stories first hand when you all get back.

7/15/2014 7:35:16Bonnie - Jon's sisterGlad you got in some fun for your anniversary! It would have been interesting to ask Grandma how many people they make food for at lunchtime! Maybe it was just the 3 you saw? Love the name. Been concerned about you guys hitting weather - so glad you have not! DId you talk to the West Valley guy Jon? He has not called me ...
68
7/13/2014 19:53:57Big Sis CindySo when does Illinois fit into the Abe Lincoln story? When you said that the family left Kentucky, I thought you were going to say they went to Illinois....I always thought it was considered the "Land of Lincoln" Glad you're taking some off bike days to explore all these interesting things!
Ride On! Hugs!
69
7/12/2014 22:29:00Big Sis CindyStruck me today that you guys are seeing the country in a way that in the scheme of things, very few ever have or ever will! Really awesome! 7/11/2014 21:21:31Hiedi and ScottI am loving your descriptions of the sights and experiences. It reminds me of the book "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed, especially the parts of about making connections with shop-owners and other travelers along the way. Keep up the amazing work of getting on that bike every day (almost) and continuing your most excellent adventure as well as the posts on the blog when you are so weary you must be wanting to collapse in your tent (or hotel bed) instead of sitting down at the computer. Thanks for letting us travel with you virtually! :)
72
7/11/2014 7:59:25JillHaving lots of fun reading all of your blogs! Glad to hear it's all going well. Hey Jon, I'm liking your goatee! :)
73
7/10/2014 21:14:22Big Sis CindyJon clearly has some musical talent! Very nice! I've been at an HR class and a bit out of touch the last few days. I've been watching the morning news shows and the weather in that part of the country and was wondering this morning about weather for you and thinking you must be getting some rain....lo and behold...looks like you were! Hope it passed quickly! Ride on! Hugs!
74
7/10/2014 6:34:09PeterWay to go you guys! Great blogs and pics. Glad to hear that you, the gear and the plan are all holding together and thriving! The dog stories, pictures of the rolling Virginia country side, and small town stops along the way brought back all kinds of memories from fleeing DC on the weekends. Pretty much unchanged, minus camp Wi-Fi. Keep on cranking!
75
7/7/2014 20:42:19Joe GillesDoug,

Keep up the "riden & riten", we love the posts and the pictures are fantastic! We know your looking forward to the flat lands, but the pics of the mountains are really beautiful. And besides, your legs will be like California Redwoods by the time your done. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

7/7/2014 19:07:25leigh teagueHey Doug, Jon and Teresa,
I have FINALLY gotten into the blog (I am a technology loser). I have read almost every post of Doug and Teresa (I did skip a few of the before posts). I can't wait to check in every day or 2 now. I will read Jon's tomorrow hopefully - supper is almost ready. Thoughts:
*Doug, I was worried when I saw the knee brace before you even started biking (you were site seeing - yikes), but was glad to read that you feel good and are seeing Pueblo, CO an attainable goal.
*Tracy and I have both enjoyed seeing and hearing your take on things we grew up with: Tracy the mountains of KY, me camping (although in NC) near the BR Parkway each summer with my grandparents, Mechanicsville, VA where Sam had a XC race, I too did not visit DC until an adult and a pseudo Oregonian (my favorite was the WWII memorial - I hope you got to see that.....at night)
*Teresa, I had to learn to stay in the car when I pulled up to a gas station in OR
*I was bummed when I read you were in Nashville. I had looked up the route after seeing you Memorial day and noted that it did not go through Nashville (I was going to have the royal treatment rolled out for you) I did not think about you driving through on your way out
*I am blown away by all of this.....and Tracy even more so as he rode a lot when he lived in NC you are our heroes!!
Tracy says he is sitting on our nice cushioned couch in yall's honor tonight : )
*I can't believe you bike all day through the mountains after being kept awake by trains - amazing!
*Until I zoomed in it looked like Jon had on a flowery shirt but it was peppers.......then noticed Doug had on Jon's shirt or you have matching attire?
*Camp IV - the best campground
Good luck as you continue!

41810.51323Joe DessertNumber one accessory to take: Air horn. I had one on my handlebars and was never in serious danger from a dog because of it. . . of course I never ran into any deaf dogs.

41810.45274Joe DessertLove it!. I did 2200 miles back in '76, from Iowa to Maryland when the bike trail was seriously organized. One question: Isn't going west to east easier? I wish I were with you.
