30-Oct505DCNew pool season kicked off last night in t'club.
All games basically went to the black ball but DC got in some lucky shots.
CH very unlucky in closing down the games that he should have won. Its all to play for now for CH.
This should have been a closer battle of the cues..

6-Nov532CH... and BOTC continues, New tips on both cues meant a level playing field (table) for both players. First game down to black ball game, DC took it, second game again black ball game, CH took his shot on the black, lovely shot from far end of the table but unfortunately the black ball rattled around the jaws of the pocket and refused to go down. DC took his shot and the ball went down. Next game CH moved to a new level of concentration and took the game with DC leaving 4 balls still on the table. Fourth game, CH levelled the scores at 2 all. All to play for in the last game for both players. In the end it was CH's evening, DC was having zero luck on the middle pockets which he claimed in later interviews was his downfall for the evening. Good games all round though with CH being finally victorious; a result of his dogged determination not to suffer the ignominity of another whitewash.

13-Nov523DC.... so another exciting evening down t'club. Close games all night, mostly to the black ball each time. CH taking early leads with DC playing catchup each time but staying in touch. Some very good shots from both players during the course of the evening leading to exciting play for the people watching. All level at the end of 4 games with it all to play for in the last game of the evening. CH again took an early commanding lead and continued to lead throughout the game but, DC manged to pull it back at the end with a final black played for a few shots. CH was unlucky as the evening should have been his. Guess DC was lucky in the end when it counted.... Short break next week as 50% of the players are out. Play will resume the following week.

28-Nov523DC...Unlucky start for CH in the first game with a potted black early on, but then he came back in the next game with the potting of 4 balls in a row to open an early lead but failed to capitalise on it and DC caught up and went on to win second game on the black ball. CH came back again strongly in the third game and this time retained control won with a two ball lead. CH went on to draw the match to 2 all in a close fought 4th game and so it all came down to the last game. Good shots from each player brought us once more to the black ball. A few missed chances from both players, the black ball went round the table. slight angle miscalculationinto the corner pocket meant CH left a fairly straight forward black intot he pocket for DC. close games once more, some good shots from both players lead to enjoyable games.

22-Jan541CHAfter a long Christmas break, DC returned to the table like a potential world beater brushing CH aside in the first frame to notch up a crushing 6 ball victory. This however seemed to strengthen CH's resolve and a combination of good shot selection and accurate potting, coupled with some untypical mistakes by DC, saw CH emerge a worthy winner on the night (much to the surprise of the resident audience who always seem to favour the big man). DC had a particularly poor spell in the fourth frame when he managed to sink the white pill four times. In the post-match review an interesting fact emerged - on a on a winning ball count, the match would have ended all square at 6 - 6. This however is stats overkill and should not be allowed to detract from what was a fine CH victory. It does however make a case for changing the cribbage scoring rules!

29-Jan550CHBOTC continues to surprise. DC was way below par (was it tiredness after a long trip to Bristol / over-indulgence the night before / or concern that his PT had come to know of his excesses and would make him pay?) but it has to be said that CH took full advantage both in his own play and in maximising on DC's errors. Resident crowd bitterly disappointed that their man was beaten and even turned hostile at one stage towards CH. CH's positioning on the blacks was impressive as was DC's two fluffed shots on the trot due to non-chalking. DC expected to come out fighting in the next series - the big man will not take a whitewash lying down!

19-Feb514DCBOTC it seems only has one scheduled game this month, due to DC's other commitments. But DC showed old form and was back with a winning scoreline. It wasnt a complete white wash and CH did save face three nil down clawing back a good game but at that point the match was won. The games were truly uneventful with neither player playing any remarkable shots. CH wasnt on form and definitely not playing up to his usual standards. CH was unlucky in the third game 5 balls ahead at one point and just didnt close it down. One 'silly' decision to go for a trick shot off a cushion resulted in DC ggetting back in and clearing down what he needed. All in all probably one to forget about and move on to the next game. Another break next week as DC is out of the country so BOTC will resume in March, snow allowing.

9-Apr523DCBOTC returns this month once more. DC took early lead with 3 ball lead in first game, CH tried to come back but attempted a tricky shot on a blue into a pocket already covered by the black. Shot didnt wok out and let DC back in to claim second game. CH came backin the third with a good 2 (??) ball lead, DC started getting nervous at this point but managed to hold out to claim winning game. 5th game played which CH claimed. Good games throughout the evening with few silly mistakes (eg white ball down). Play may be skipped next week (wednesday) due to other commitments.

4-Jun532CHFresh from his recent victory over the Whippersnapper, CH expected to run out an easy winner over DC. An early two frame lead (two balls and one ball) consolidated this position but DC came back positively to take the third frame aided by the loss of CH's tip and the necessity to use a house cue. CH however took the decisive fourth frame (a black ball game) to take the match. DC sauntered through the fifth frame to notch up a consolation. Both players exhibited signs of rustiness following a two month recesss, although there were smatterings of brilliance as is to be expected with such quality players involved.

25-Jun514DCBOTC season continues (slowly) through the summer months. Grabbing games when both players are available. On the night CH was expecting to continue his previous winning spree but DC had other ideas, CH started off potting his own balls and some of DCs and the first game was down to the black quickly with DC potting it cleanly eventually. Second game CH came back with a commanding 5 ball win that had DC scared; CH obviously got too confident with a 6 ball lead at one point in the third game but a bad selection of middle pocket to pot the black ball had him hitting it too hard and the black ball bounced off middle cushion and across the table into the opposite middle (undeclared) pocket and lose the game that should have been his. DC came back in the 5th game to win and take the night. A good nights game of pool with some excellent shots especially by CH into the lower right favoured corner pocket.
