Protect our Second Amendment Rights and Proper Legislative Procedure

On January 15, Governor Cuomo's new gun bill, the S.A.F.E. Act, was passed. This bill not only tramples the Second Amendment rights of legal gun owners, but also does nothing to curb the problem of illegal guns or mental illness in violent crimes. Moreover, Governor Cuomo forced this bill upon our government by using the executive bully pulpit to declare this issue was an emergency and that the vote was of necessity. This allowed the legislature to surpass any mandatory waiting period that would have given the citizens of New York a chance to respond to the bill. Please sign this petition to build support for repealing the S.A.F.E. Act with legislation that will allow for public input and follow the proper legislative process. This debate has not even had a chance for discussion, and is not something that should be taken lightly. Every New Yorker who supports the Second Amendment should sign this petition to show that we can make meaningful strides to prevent gun violence and start addressing the serious problem of mental illness. I need your support if we are going to bring about any real change in New York. -Assemblyman Steve Katz
