Docent program survey 2013
Your feedback is important to the Museums's docent program. Thank you!!
Please provide us with your updated contact information (name, email and phone number).
Will you be returning to docent with us in the fall?
Which program(s) do you lead?
Art of Nature
On the Spot
What days and times are you available to do programs?
i.e. Monday - Friday 10-noon, just T/Thursday, weekends only, etc.
What do you like most about being a docent at the Museum of Natural History?
Docents are asked to participate in 2-4 hours of service per month. How do you feel about this time committment?
How do you like the "Whale Spout" e-newsletter? Is it an effective way to communicate with you?
We send out the Whale Spout about every two weeks (during the school year). How often would you like to have updates from us?
About every two weeks is good
More often would be better
I prefer updates less often
Trainings for our diverse programs are brief. We give you the overview of the program and ask you to study resource information, then observe experienced docents until you feel comfortable leading. Do do you feel like this is enough to prepare you to be a docent?
Would like more training
Do you have any feedback on how we run the trainings?
Docent enrichment requirement?
Many organizations require their docents to attend a certain number of enrichments/events to stay active (as motivation to continue learning!) How many enrichments do you feel comfortable committing to per year?
We offered seven enrichments from Oct-May. Please let us know why you may not have attended an enrichment. When is the best time for enrichments for you?
Scheduling conflict - Mondays are not good days
Wasn't interested in the topic
Not a requirement, therefore not motivated
I would attend if it was required
What enrichment topics would be interesting to you for the 2013-2014 year?
Invasive plant species/restoration
Skills workshop (i.e. improving delivery)
Tour of landfill
Field trip to Ohlone field site
Field trip to State parks (i.e. Henry Cowell, Seacliff, Big Basin)
Mixer with docents of other programs
Skills sharing (learning from each other)
When would you be able to attend docent enrichments?
What is one (or more!) thing that you used as a docent that seemed to work well in your teaching, engaging, and interaction?
Do you have a talent/skill/passion that you would like to share with the docents?
Do you feel the staff supported you in your role as a docent? Please be specific with regards to scheduling, helpfulness, etc.
Super docent opportunities
Would you be interested in helping out the docent program in other ways?
Helping with the docent library
Scheduling/ Helping fill tours weekly
Sponsoring a docent potluck social
Helping create and send out the Whale Spout newsletter
Creating new docent resources (i.e. online information sheets, felt board animals, hosting info sheets)
Mentoring a new trainee (co-leading a tour)
How well do you feel appreciated by the Museum/staff for the service you provide?
Volunteers who give over 40 hours of service per year receive a free Museum membership. Is this a good incentive for you to sign up for tours? Is there another incentive that would help motivate you to stay active?
Please provide us with additional and suggestions for ways you think we could improve our docent programs.
