Students selected for this living-learning community will have the unique opportunity to live in a residence hall with twenty three other first year students participating in this community. This cohort of twenty four will be enrolled in General Education courses together and will also take 1-2 other courses outside the community. All students must be entering Longwood University in the Fall of 2013 as an undeclared student and will remain undeclared through their first year at Longwood.
This living-learning community is designed to provide students the opportunity to explore academic majors and careers and to help them declare a major at the end of the year. Additionally, students in the learning community will be afforded the opportunity to work closely with faculty teaching their courses, student leaders who will serve as Peer Mentors exclusively for this community, a faculty liaison, a Residence Education Coordinator and Resident Assistants and the Office of First Year Experience & Family Programs. Members of the learning community will also have special opportunities for involvement, programming and retreats designed specifically for them!
Students will be notified of selection prior to Summer Orientation & Registration so they can meet others in their community during the Summer and arrive in August with connections already established!
PLEASE NOTE: If you have been admitted to Longwood as a part of the PLUS or Honors programs or will enter with dual enrollment/AP credits that fulfill the English 150 (Goal 2) requirement, you are not eligible for The Compass Community.
