Camp Strong4Life Volunteer Interest form

Dear Volunteers: We’re glad that you’re interested in becoming part of the Camp Strong4Life family. Volunteers are the building blocks of the camp. Thanks to volunteers we can continue to offer this program to the campers at a very minimal cost. We will host 1 camper week and 8 family weekends during the 2013 Camp S4L season. You can choose to volunteer for as few or as many as you would like. (All volunteers are required to attend one of the Volunteer Orientations--dates TBD). Camp Dates: Family Welcome Weekends (For the Camper and his/her family)--Weekends begin about 4 pm on Friday afternoon and close mid-day on Sunday. March 22-24 April 19-21 April 26-28 May 10-12 Camper Weeks (Only campers to attend)--Camper week begins Saturday afternoon and closes midday the following Friday. Saturday, July 6--Friday, July 12 Family Reunion Weekends (For the Camper and his/her family)--Weekends begin about 4 pm on Friday afternoon and close mid-day on Sunday. August 9-11 September 6-8 September 27-29 October 11-13 Volunteer Opportunities include: Counselor: • Provide direct supervision, support, and encouragement to campers • Ensure constant supervision of children, cleanliness and safety of surrounding environment • Use positive reinforcement consistently for appropriate interaction and behavior from children and peers • Attend staff meeting during camp week when required • Communicate daily with Medical Director or Camp Director about needs, activities and issues of concern • Assist in the evaluation of campers and counselors • Active participant in the teaching of skills in specialty areas, assists the Camp Twin Lakes specialist working with the cabin group at any specific time • Conduct him/herself in compliance with policies and practices and procedures of Code of Ethics • Responsible for his/her camper at all times • Make sure that each camper showers and changes clothes daily • Responsible for getting camper to activities and meals on time • Responsible for working with medical staff to promote, encourage and supervise health practices • Works with co-counselor and other staff members as a “team” • Reports to the Camp Director Camp Nurse: • Appropriate management of camper health care • Distribution of medication • Documentation of dispensing medication to campers • Treatment of related medical problems • Communicates in a timely fashion with family members • Responsible for documentation, i.e. physician orders, sick visits, phone calls to parents • Reports to the Camp Director Nursing Students: • Assists in the appropriate charting of medications • Assists in the documentation of dispensed medication to campers • Assists in other related activities as specified by the Nursing/Medical Directors • Volunteer functions are appropriate to meet the requirements of student practicum • Help medical staff to triage campers in medical lodge • Lead Nurse will serve as preceptor • When duties are complete in med lodge, act as activity helpers around camp supervising campers.
