Major Requirements

Each student at The University of Memphis should read the online Undergraduate Catalog in order to understand degree, major, and university requirements. Log on to the Undergraduate Catalog for the first part of this activity: In the section of the catalog titled "Colleges and Degree Programs, " look for majors that interest you. This section can be found at this link: http://www.memphis.edu/ugcatalog/collegeprog/index.php Choose the one major that best suits you and answer the following questions:







General Education

Many of the courses in the first semester are General Education courses, often referred to as “Gen Ed” courses. Look over the information regarding the University General Education Program in the Catalog at this link: http://www.memphis.edu/ugcatalog/graduation/index.php

ALEKS Math Test-YOU MUST COMPLETE THE MATH ASSESSMENT PRIOR TO ATTENDING NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

The ALEKS program, which has been successfully implemented at many leading universities around the United States, is designed both to increase student success rates in math courses and to move students more quickly into higher-level courses that are part of their selected areas of study. All students must take the ALEKS assessment to be placed in a college-level math course. Log into your myMemphis portal and click on the Student Tab to locate the ALEKS link: http://my.memphis.edu After the assessment, you will be referred to a page that will inform you of the course you are prepared for and of the opportunity to use the ALEKS Learning Module to improve your math placement. The ALEKS assessment is free to all students. It may take up to 90 minutes to complete the assessment. The length of the assessment varies by student, but there will be a maximum of 30 questions.
