2012 YEP Business Concept Questions
Registration and business concept questions are due no later than February 13, 2012

1. All contestants must be at least 14 but not older than 27 years of age by March 29, 2012.  Contestants under the age of 18 must have written parental permission to enter the contest.

2. Legal residents of Shasta, Trinity, Tehama, Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Humboldt, Del Norte, Modoc, Siskiyou, or Plumas Counties are eligible to compete in this competition. In addition full time students (between 14 & 27 years of age) enrolled at Shasta College or College of the Siskiyous are also eligible to enter the competition.  All contestants are required to prove eligibility.

3. All entries must be registered and submit their business concept questions by February 13, 2012, to participate.

What is the most important feature of your product/service? Include in your description: how it works, what it looks like and who it will serve.
3. Explain how your business concept is reasonable and achievable in today’s economic market. What trends have you noticed with your business? *
4. How was your business concept inspired? *
5. Value - *
How will your customers benefit from your product or service? Does the benefit of your product or service outweigh the monetary cost? Why or why not?
6. Innovation - *
 What is your competitive advantage (low cost or differentiation)? For example, how is your product/service different from other competitors? Is it more or less expensive? Who are your competitors, both locally and globally?
7. Target Market - *
Who is your target market (age, gender, region, skill level, socio-economic status, values)?
8. Financing - *
How will you finance the start-up? How much money do you need to get started and stay in business? How will you sustain your business?
9. Profitability - *
 What is the profit potential of your product or service, both short term and long term? How much will you charge for your product/service? What will it cost to create and deliver your product or service to the market?
10. Growth - *
What barriers will you face entering your market and how can you overcome them? How will you market and advertise your product or service? What advertising vehicle(s) will you be using, how often and why?
11. Protection of your concept - *
 Can you and how will you safeguard your product/service from being copied by competitors?
12. Sustainability - *
How does your product/service affect the environment? Is it environmentally neutral? Does it reduce environmental impacts or enhance the environment? Does your product or service, or the process required to make it, harm the environment?
13. What is your next step to create a viable and profitable product/service? *
