This Spring 2012, the Humboldt State University Service Learning Center is updating our Strategic Plan and would like to seek student input to promote student voice in these efforts. You are invited to share your level of involvement with VOLUNTEER SERVICE-RELATED ACTIVITIES, as well as ACADEMIC SERVICE LEARNING COURSE activities on campus while contributing your vision and ideas through this survey. Your input will help us shape a Strategic Plan that will serve as a road map for HSU’s Service Learning efforts over the course of the next five years.
For the purposes of this survey, questions will be grouped under TWO main sections; please understand the difference between the following definitions:
1. ACADEMIC SERVICE LEARNING COURSES: Service is tied to the specific academic content of the course. Service Learning is a teaching pedagogy (method) and learning strategy that integrates academic studies with Service Learning experiences in the community to enhance learning, teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities.
2. VOLUNTEER SERVICE-RELATED ACTIVITIES: service activities that are conducted on a volunteer basis that are NOT connected to academic course content.
This survey, and the Strategic Planning process, are being conducted by the Service Learning/Community Engagement Advisory Committee in order to further its mission:
To promote learning and reciprocal connections among students, faculty, and community members through integrated academic coursework and service in the community, and to encourage the development of socially and environmentally responsible citizens.
We deeply appreciate your feedback on this survey, which should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
