Alumni Award for Student Leadership & Sidney Lake Award Nomination Form
Please note: the selection committee will consider this student for both the Alumni Award for Student Leadership & the Sidney Lake Award, however, you may wish to write your nomination letter to cater more toward one of the awards. Please read below for additional information on the distinction between these two awards.
Alumni Award for Student Leadership
Established in 2005, the award is sponsored by the MICA Alumni Association to recognize students with outstanding capacity to promote MICA in their future journeys as artists. The Alumni Award for Student Leadership is given annually to one senior and one graduate student who have demonstrated institutional pride during their MICA experience. Recipients of this award are students who have been leaders in the MICA or greater Baltimore community, and are expected to be active as alumni, furthering MICA’s reputation as a world-class institution. In the past, recipients of the award have gone on to serve on MICA’s Alumni Council, or continued to stay involved through volunteer opportunities.
Requirements for eligibility include:
- Graduating student (December 2012 or May 2013)
- Has been active in his or her discipline, either through a campus department or within the greater artist community
- Has made extensive and effective leadership contributions to the MICA community
- Excellent academic standing (has an academic GPA of 3.7 or higher)
Sidney Lake Award
Established approximately 20 years ago, the award memorializes the late Sidney Lake, a member of MICA's Maintenance staff who was loved and respected by faculty, students, and staff alike. When he died, people throughout the MICA community contributed to a fund to recognize his spirit of cooperation and his commitment to his family, church, and work communities. The Sidney Lake Award is given annually to two seniors and one graduate student who have contributed to life at MICA through cooperation and leadership and exemplify Sidney Lake’s commitment to the MICA community. Strong candidates are students who are interwoven into the MICA community, and are dedicated to leaving MICA even better than it was when they arrived. These students embody what it means to be a member of the MICA community, exuding a spirit of conscientiousness, service, and devotion to improving any community or team they have been part of.
Requirements for eligibility include:
- Graduating student (December 2012 or May 2013)
- Involvement in the department for at least one academic year
- Demonstrated a commitment to his or her fellow students, and advancing the MICA community
- Good academic standing (has an academic GPA of 3.0 or higher)
