Understanding Race School Mini-grant Application (These grants made possible by a grant from the National Center for Institutional Diversity at the University of Michigan) Qualications: 1) Public schools in Washtenaw County may apply. 2) As of January 21st, 2013 your school must be registered to bring a group to the RACE: Are we so different? exhibition between February 9 and May 27, 2013. Cancellation of the field trip may result in cancellation of the mini-grant award. 3) The program at your school must take place between January 1 and June 30, 2013. Criteria: 1) The program funded must serve one or more of the following groups: K-12 students, K-12 teachers, parents and community members. 2) Applicants must demonstrate one or more specic issues regarding race in the culture and climate of a school that this program will help to address. Examples include: lack of awareness or understanding of bias or inequity, lack of understanding of the science or history of race, evidence of bias or stereotypes in the school, disproportionate discipline, lack of culturally diverse curriculum materials, etc. 3) Applicants must explain how the school will use the program to promote dialogue and conversation to improve the culture and climate at the school. 4) If asking for more than 50% of the program to be funded, provide the percentage of students on Free/Reduced Price Lunch programs. 5) We cannot fund food or equipment purchases.
