2014 American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course at Maine West

Welcome to the 2014 Maine West Lifeguarding Course. In preparation for the course, please be ready to participate in the pre-course survey of skills on Tuesday, March 19. We will hit the water at 7:30pm. The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning April 19 at Maine West High School from 7:30-9:30pm. No class over spring break.

The pre-course requirements are as follows:

1. Swim 300-yards continuously (untimed). Must demonstrate front crawl and breaststroke with rhythmic breathing.

2. Tread water for 2-minutes without using arms.

3. Retrieve a 10lb object from the depth of 7-10 feet and swim back 20 yards without submerging the object within 1 minute 40 seconds.

Upon successful completion of these items, candidates are able to continue with the course training.
