29th Asian Pacific Islander Graduation Planning Interest Form
The 29th Annual Asian Pacific Islander Graduation planned by the Asian Pacific Coalition is coming up and we need your help to make this a successful commencement for our graduating seniors! This year, API Graduation will be taking place on Sunday, June 17, 3:00 PM at Dickson Court North. APIG is a unique ceremony that brings together families, friends, and communities to celebrate our graduates' achievements. We will be having faculty, community, and student speakers as well as cultural performances. Each graduate gets to make a special shout-out to their families and friends too!
This ceremony is a lot of fun and is a great way to celebrate your time at UCLA. Feel free to bring out all of your friends and families for this special celebration! Traditional cultural attire is optional.
If you would like to be a part of the planning process for such rewarding event (also a great way to exercise your planning skills!), please fill out the form below! While the entire committee will be involved in every process, there are specialized subcommittees that will be pointpeople for the duties listed below.
***Additionally, if you are also interested in more of a challenge, you may apply to be the Chair for APIG 2012! The Chair is responsible for calling together meetings, attending meetings with APC Staff, and organizing the committee! This is a highly rewarding position and will expose you to the ins and outs of working with APC and other organizations! APIG Chairs will also be subject to an interview!***
*STEERING*
All committee members will be engaged in a conversation about the agenda, selection of performers, selection of speakers (keynote, faculty, and student), vision, and general organization of the graduation. Previous speakers have included figures such as Yuri Kochiyama, Grace Lee Boggs, Beau Sia, Glenn Omatsu, and Warren Furutani!
*OUTREACH*
All committee members will be engaged in outreach to our different communities on campus to join us in this celebration. Outreach involves serving as liaisons to organizations and their membership to encourage not just graduating seniors to participate but to also gather and train volunteers needed for the event. This is a great way to increase your networks!
*LOGISTICS/FUNDING/FOOD*
All committee members will be engaged in securing the necessary supplies and funds for the event in addition to liaisoning with community organizations to secure co-sponsorships. Committee will also be in charge of securing culturally relevant food to serve to guests and their families. This is a great way to train your programming skills for the future!
We are hoping to start our committee meetings soon so fill out the interest form ASAP!
Love,
APC Staff 2011-2012
