M.I. Green Leader Application 2013

Are you a returning M.I. Green volunteer with lots of exciting outreach ideas for next fall? Are you looking for more environmental or peer leadership experience on campus? Is hugging trees your PASSION? Are you so pumped for NSO that you've started a countdown? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then we want YOU! Penn’s Green Campus Partnership is seeking student volunteers for its annual move-in engagement program, M.I. Green! Volunteers will be selected as environmental leaders to help incoming students learn about green lifestyles and sustainability on campus. Six outstanding applicants will be selected to lead fellow volunteers in environmental outreach. Applications are due on Sunday, March 17th. Position description

M.I. Green Leaders will assist Green Campus Partnership staff and student coordinators with the implementation of programmatic aspects leading up to and during the week of NSO. Duties includes training and coaching peer participants, assisting with event set-up and tear-down, coordinating and realizing outreach strategies, and leading large-scale events. Ideal candidates are responsible, motivated, self-starters, with a passion for all things environmental and great interpersonal skills!


All volunteers receive free early move-in privileges, a free meal plan during NSO, and a special M.I. Green t-shirt! Volunteers will have the unique opportunity to work with Penn’s sustainability staff and get involved in the University’s environmental initiatives. M.I. Green Leaders fill a vital role in connecting student volunteers with University sustainability staff. Volunteering is a great opportunity to meet other students interested in environmental issues on campus and make lasting friendships beyond the program!

Participation requirements

All M.I. Green participants must volunteer for a minimum of 20 hours to qualify for early move-in privileges. M.I. Green Leaders can expect to volunteer around 10 hours above and beyond the minimum M.I. Green volunteer requirement of 20 hours. Any student who fails to meet that requirement will be billed for early move-in. In addition to the volunteer requirement, M.I. Green Leaders are expected to attend an initial meeting, held the last weekend in March (date and time TBA), both spring training sessions (on April 18th and 19th), as well as a prep day on August 19th and a volunteer orientation session on August 20th. Make up opportunities will be made available for students with legitimate conflicts, but must be scheduled in advance.
