2012 UP-Wide AmeriCorps Service Project - May 19, 2012

MARESA AmeriCorps has teamed up with Superior AmeriCorps and the Superior Watershed Partnership and Land Trust (http://www.superiorwatersheds.org/) for the 2012 UP-Wide AmeriCorps Service Project. The focus of the day of service is working along the M-28 beach located just outside of Marquette; removal of invasive species, planting native grasses and native trees. The goal of the project is to engage AmeriCorps members throughout the U.P. while encouraging community participation. The following partners are already included in the project; MARESA AmeriCorps, Superior AmeriCorps, Teaching Family Homes, Great Lakes Recovery, MARESA Transition programs, and the Superior Watershed Partnership. Itinerary for the Event: Meet at Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency (MARESA), 321 E. Ohio St. Marquette, MI 49855 9:00-9:10 -- Project overview, Safety, and Logistics - Chad Rowley, MARESA AmeriCorps 9:10-9:45 -- Presentation: Invasive Species, Spotted Knapweed - Carl Lindquist, Superior Watershed Partnership 9:45-10:00 -- Travel to Service Site - Beach along M-28 10:00-11:45 – Service Project; Invasive Species Removal, Native Species Planting 11:45-12:30 -- Lunch and Refreshments will be served. 12:30-3:45 -- Continue with Service Project 3:45-4:00 -- Closing and Reflection: Charles Yeager, MARESA AmeriCorps Please register with your contact information below.
