Registration for Human Loom Project Workshop
The Human Loom Project connects individuals in a safe and positive celebration of each other’s similarities and differences. It is a forum to create relationships and community where participants will weave an illustration that captures the journey together. The Human Loom Project has been performed since 2004 for various groups ranging from Teens to Elders, from non-profits to companies, from faith-based groups to teens incarcerated in the Juvenile Justice system. It has been performed with groups from 5 to 40 to promote community building, cooperation, and to offer a venue for participants to share and receive personal stories and insights, as well as connecting to or redefining organizational missions/visions/values. Each Human Loom Project is tailored to the particular group or circumstance to which it is being performed. The Human Loom Project is a two hour process which begins with a 10-15 minute guided meditation. The meditation offers each individual an opportunity for self-reflection and self-evaluation as a centering exercise. This prepares the individual for sharing ideas, experiences and stories with the group. By using the participants’ bodies as the mechanical parts a “weaver’s loom,” the group will create a textile by working as a team. The structure, pattern and texture of the textile is based on the group asking questions of each other and their interactions. Once the group has become comfortable with each other, participants are encouraged to share and “weave” their internal reflections into the fabric.
