What does Hans Rosling tell you? and How does he say it? -- Grade 11 & 12
Before working on this assignment, please read this instruction carefully.

1. This assignment does not expect that you view the VDO Clips once, and you can understand everything and answer my questions.  It needs concentration, just like when you are in class.  But since you are home, you can take your time, go as fast or as slowly and repeat certain parts as you wish -- but AFTER you run both clips through.

2. Use good helpers, such as dictionary (in copy, or on-line dictionary) to help you understand the words you are not familiar.  However, there is no need to understand EVERY single word.  His presentation helped the audience to largely understand his points.  Sometimes, reading additional article about global population (in Thai or English) will also help you to understand this easier.

3. Most of these questions does not have right or wrong answers, it is YOUR answer.  What counts is how you explain your answers -- by reviewing things you learn from the clips, connecting with your experience, linking it to additional knowledge that you might have, or your creative thoughts -- any of these methods is good and you can even use more than one method.

4. Grammar and words that you choose are important, BUT I care more about your thought.  I will correct your grammar and wording that you use, with respect to your thought.

5. Your submission date is any day from now to 8:00 a.m.  21 November 2011.  You can also submit it as a draft, and once I comment it with my questions, you can resubmit your work.  Should you have any questions, please e-mail me: dhon63@gmail.com, 'Arwin Klapwijk' <hitdistrict@gmail.com>, and r_t_02@hotmail.com.  If you have any difficulty getting to the internet, or writing it on IPAD, you can write on your paper, take a photo then send an e-mail to me.  We will do my best to respond to your need.

What does Hans Rosling present in VDO clip # 1?
Summarize in your own word and list the main issues Rosling wants to tell you.
What are the points he presents in the second clip (Clip # 2) that he does not emphasize in the first clip?
Use bullet points to compare both presentations may help you complete this task easily.
In the second clip, Roslings says that "I am not an optimist, neither am I a pessimist.  I'm a possibilist."   Explain what he means by being a "possibilist."
Find the meaning of optimist and pessimist.  Guess what an optimist and a pessimist will think about what Rosling say. You can look closely to the word "possibilist" that sounds like a word that you readily know. Give example of a 'possibilist view' from the clip or your own.
In your view, how would natural disasters like the current flood in Thailand affect the statistics Rosling present?
Consider predictions of global disasters, economic developments, social change, and other aspect of growth.
