<strong>EARLY APPLICATION SUBMISSION IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED</strong>.

<strong>There is no out-of-pocket expense for participants</strong>. All expense will be covered by financial aid and program funding. SAEP is designed to be challenging. It demands a five week (seven days a week) commitment from each of the participants. It is best suited for students who are highly motivated and who are strongly committed to a graduate education.

<strong>REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION</strong>
<ul>
<li>All majors within the School of Social Sciences or Social Ecology.</li>
<li>Minimum 36 units completed with at least a 2.8 GPA in Social Sciences</li>
<li>Completed the lower division writing requirement and preferably, though not required, one year of statistics</li>
<li>Must be enrolled at UC Irvine for the 2012-2013 academic year; preference given to students who plan to graduate 2014 and beyond </li>
<li>2 Letters of Recommendation.  Please have your recommenders submit letters to saep@mail.ss.uci.edu no later than February 29, 2012.</li>

<strong>PERSONAL STATEMENT</strong>
Please type and attach a two to three page double spaced personal statement. The statement should address the following questions:
 1. What are your reasons for applying to SAEP?
 2. How has your personal and family background influenced your educational attainment?
 3. What are your educational and career objectives?
 4. Do you have any research experience? Please explain your involvement.
 5. Are you involved in honors, internships, community service, or other campus and community activities?
 6. How would you utilize the SAEP experience?

<strong>WRITING SAMPLE</strong>
On the day of the interview, applicants will complete a 30-minute unprepared writing assessment.

<strong>INTERVIEWS</strong>
Interviews for SAEP applicants will take place March 12 – March 16.
