Aquatics "Lifeguard I" Application - SFSU Campus Recreation Department

In order to be considered for the Aquatics Lifeguard I position, you must hold-prior to employment-a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid Certification and a current American Red Cross CPR/AED Certification. A Title 22 Certification is also preferred. Training may be provided. This position reports directly to the Aquatics Manager and is responsible for the well-being and safety of all patrons utilizing the SFSU aquatic facility. Position Description

Campus Recreation seeks an Aquatics Lifeguard I position for its program. Applicants assume certain responsibilities, primarily, in the well-being and safety of its patrons. Additional responsibilities can be given by the Aquatics Manager and may involve record keeping of inventory, pool chemical testing, and personal record keeping for payroll purposes. The position reports directly to the Aquatics Manager. The position is responsible for opening/closing the swimming facility for Recreational Swim Hours and Swim and Exercise Classes. The position is responsible for the care of all equipment used and other duties as assigned or directed.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-Working knowledge of indoor swimming pool systems. -Knowledge and use of chemicals for swimming pools and water chemistry. -Strong knowledge of effective training models and swim practices. -Professional contact with the SFSU community, upholding Campus Rec Codes of Conduct. -Ability to perform under pressure. -Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to create effective working relationships with employees and the public. -Organized, punctual, efficient.

Certifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications: American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED and Lifeguard Training. WSI and/or LGI a plus. Training may be provided. "Lifeguard I" must have an Aquatics Background.

Compensation

Varies with experience and certifications.

Selection Process

Will consist of an application screening with the most qualified candidates being invited to participate in a personal interview. Appointment subject to successful completion of background investigation and swim skill testing.
