Linux Programming Interface (Weekend Workshop for students) - Open Gyan
<b>What will be covered in the workshop?</b>
We intend to cover basic things in User space Linux – how to use the kernel. In this workshop, we will be covering basic application programming interfaces (API) covering many subsystems like Process, Memory, File I/O, Interprocess communication.  You will have an opportunity to know how your program is executed and its lifecycle. For example, how a process is created and lives in memory and how it does various things.

<b>What is the prerequisites to attend the workshop?</b>
In order to attend this workshop, you must have fair understanding and hands-on with C (programming language) and curiosity in problem solving.

<b>Why to Learn Linux?</b>
Understanding things at low level helps us to develop better systems. In the case of Linux/Unix, it gives us knowledge on how to design and how to be simple.  We just happen to learn one of the widely deployed operating systems.

<b>Is there any fee that i should pay?</b>
It is free for students (who are still in college) and we named this initiative as <b>"Open Gyan"</b>. At this point of time, we are not planning to extend to others. If there is a change, we will let you know.

<b>What do we expect from the participants?</b>
Only thing that we expect is seriousness to learn.

<b>How will this be conducted?</b>
The workshop will be conducted in holidays/weekends. We can also conduct this workshop in your college campus if need be. Please to write to us or post in our Facebook page. One of the admins will get back to you.  <b>Join us in Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/opengyan</b>

If you want to get hands-on, we urge you to bring your own laptop. If you don't have Linux and C compiler, we can help you to rent out a Linux Virtual Machine from Rackspace (which is usually low cost) or we can bring VMWare player and a Linux appliance that you can copy from us.  If we conduct this in your college, we need few Linux systems from your college lab.

<b>This workshop is not about:</b>
This workshop is <b>NOT a typical CRASH COURSE</b> that you do to get a job. And we don't give you any such promises. We are not placement agencies. We are professionals working well reputed companies wanting to share our knowledge with you. Knowing the things that are discussed may fetch you a job but that is not the main/only objective. The main objective of this course is to  make participants understand the elegance of Linux/Unix programming and use them.

<b>What will be covered?</b>
1. Process Management,
2. File I/O,
3. Memory Management,
4. Interprocess communication.

Each section will have hands-on and quizzes. Be prepared to get your hands dirty.

<b>Who are our target participants</b>
We are looking for participants who are still in college/school. We would interested to work with colleges to conduct this workshop in their campus (computer lab).
