Rail~Volution 2011 will be held in Washington, DC on October 16-19, 2011. Over 1,000 advocates and innovators will converge to share and learn how transit, land use and economic vitality go hand in hand. Rail~Volution is also an opportunity to actively engage District residents in a conversation about transit and livable communities. Community members and leaders will be able to learn about smart growth in theory, but also gain exposure to people working in the field every day. They will see how other projects and communities have fared, what challenges they have faced, and how they overcame those challenges.
Mayor Vincent Gray is offering a limited number of one-day scholarships for District residents and community leaders to attend Rail~Volution DC. Recipients will be selected through a lottery. The scholarships could be used on any day from October 16th to 19th, but it is recommended that scholarship recipients attend on Monday, October 17 so they can participate in:
* the opening plenary session, including Mayor Gray's welcome, and
* Rail~Volution 101 – a crash course in building livable communities with transit.
