Arlington Midwest

This traveling exhibit, meant to show the human cost of war and to honor the fallen U.S. service members of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, is built primarily of recycled materials and maintained by a volunteer workforce. There is a wooden tombstone for each soldier killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each stone has a clear plastic sleeve on the front and a card with the soldier's name, rank, date of birth, place of birth, and place of death. A metal stake in the bottom of each stone, then, enables them to be pushed into the ground. Currently the display has approximately 6472 tombstone. Volunteers install and remove the exhibit under the direction of host site staff. The tombstones are not heavy and are easy to push into the ground.
