After receiving your form we will send you an email confirming your selection. In the fall, after the first week of classes, you will receive a bill for all of your After School activities.

PLEASE NOTE:

Cycle I classes run from Monday, September 23, 2013 through Thursday, February 13, 2014. Certain classes do not run for the full length of the cycle and are offered "with Kids Club/Our Place" for an extra cost. This means that after your child's class has ended they will be able to attend Kids Club or Our Place from 3:00 to 4:30 for the remainder of the cycle. Unlike most classes, Our Place (for 6/7s and Up) is available starting September 11 and Kids Club (for 4/5s and 5/6s) is available starting September 17.

Super Soccer for Girls for 5/6s & 6/7s: NEW! Get the ball rolling! Join Super Soccer Stars, New York City's most popular soccer development program. Dynamic, international coaches work with every student to develop skills, self-confidence, and teamwork in a fun, non-competitive environment. Positive reinforcement and a low child-to-coach ratio ensure that each child will improve his or her soccer skills through engaging warm-ups, drills, and games--all while having endless fun! Each child receives a t-shirt on the first day of class. 9 sessions until 11/25, $295. Soccer with Kids Club/Our Place until end of cycle, $405 Woodworking for 5/6s & Up: Enjoy the challenge of working with wood. Children will work on their own projects and be introduced to an array of new tools. All material fees included. 17 Sessions, $570 PicoCricket Robotics for 6/7s & Up with Walter Hunte: Using PicoCricket Legos, we will be making artistic creations with lights, sound, music, and motion. Our goal is to engage children in exploring, experimenting, designing, and creating. We organize the room in the spirit of an artist's studio or inventor's workshop, with art supplies, LEGO bricks and other craft materials. This could be viewed as a precursor to the LEGO Mindstorm robotic system. 17 Sessions, $565 Chess II for 7/8s & Up with Howard Kipp Parker: This program is for the advanced beginner and will focus on learning various chess positions and the benefits of thinking several moves ahead. 17 Sessions, $565 Golf for 5/6s and 6/7s with Kate Tempesta's Urban Golf Academy (KTUGA): KTUGA's mission is to bring golf to urban environments and to share this wonderfully beneficial sport with children, both on and off the golf course. Their dynamic methods include combining a variety of child-friendly, modified equipment with traditional equipment in a mixture of fun, creative golf drills and games. Players will learn and practice the four basic shots as well as the rules and etiquette of golf. They work in both indoor and outdoor settings and create various stations that act as our golf course. The KTUGA program not only promotes physical literacy needed in any sport, but also ensures that each child is actively engaged and having fun. By the end of this program children will possess the skills and enthusiasm necessary to advance into this game of a lifetime. 9 Sessions (ends 11/25), $360. Golf with Kids Club/Our Place until end of cycle, $475 World Dance for Ages 4/5s - 6/7s: Travel the world of dance! Students will learn traditional folk dances from around the world, becoming fully immersed in the cultural customs, stories, music, and movements from Asia, Africa and South America. 17 Sessions, $550 Clay Creations for 7/8s & Up with Maria Richa: NEW! Come to class and build some functional clay. Students 7/8’s and up will be learning different clay techniques such as coils, pinch pots and slabs. These techniques will be used to build sets of cups, bowls, plates and many other functional sculptures. All clay pieces will be fired and glazed for children to use at home. Maria Richa, one of two art teachers for the Bank Street School for Children, will be offering this class in the art room. Stop by and ask Maria any questions in room 306! 17 Sessions $565 Private Voice Class for 10/11s & Up with Jodie Levinson: Jodie’s class will focus on strengthening the voice through warmups, breathing and singing songs. Students will pick a handful of tunes from which to work to expand range, style and musical tastes. These are private 30 minute lessons:3:30-4, 4-4:30, 4:30-5, 5-5:30. Jodie Levinson holds a BA from Skidmore College and has studied voice with coaches in and around Manhattan for many years. 17 Lessons, $545

Class Descriptions

Yoga for 4/5s to 6/7s with Maddie Cottingham: This class is a wonderful beginning for young girls and boys to grow to love yoga and all the joy it brings. The unique and engaging yoga class develops students’ mental, physical and emotional wellness in an imaginative, gentle, and inclusive style. Learning yoga asanas, circle songs, story journeys, guided meditations, animal shapes and movements, and more, students will be encouraged to embrace their potential, and live with happiness, patience, creativity, and playful wisdom. Please bring a towel or yoga mat. 19 sessions, $595 Quick Start Tennis for 4/5s and 5/6s & 6/7s and 7/8s: Children learn basic strokes more easily because the equipment and the court are age and size appropriate. They have more fun playing games and doing drills where they can experience success. Young players feel what it's like to "play tennis" and can easily progress to play, lessons, and competition on full size courts. 9 sessions ending 11/19, $410. Tennis with Kids Club/Our Place until end of cycle, $530 Robotics 2 for 6/7s & Up with TekIntellect: This robotics program, based on the LegoFIRST Junior challenges, introduces students to the exciting worlds of science and technology through Lego Mindstorms technologies. This program features a real-world challenge, to be solved by research, critical thinking and imagination. Guided by adult coaches, students work with LEGO elements and moving parts to create solutions and present them for review. Students will design and build challenge solutions using LEGO elements, apply real-world math and science concept, research challenges facing today's scientists. This is a fun way to challenge students with science and engineering! 19 sessions, $620 Chess I for 6/7 & Up with Howard Parker: This is a program for the beginning player to build chess skills in a non-competitive environment. We will focus on learning various chess positions and the benefits of thinking several moves ahead. Chess is a game that is easy to learn but takes a lifetime to master. 19 sessions, $595 Beginner Folk Guitar Group for 6/7s & 7/8s with Betsy Blachly: Level 1 is for beginners with no experience. In the first year children learn Em, E, D, A7, G, & C; four strumming variations for the right hand while accompanying themselves singing. This can also lead to the electric guitar. 19 sessions, 3:15-3:45pm, $610 Private Piano for 7/8s & Up with Tal Freiberg or Eiichi Shiada: Lessons run from September until the first week in June. Science with Kids Club/Our Place until end of cycle, $575 September 24: All about Energy and the different forms it takes - Instructor, Stephen Gould, PH.D. Chemistry, Cornell University. We’ll look at motors, generators, solar cells and other sources of energy and see how energy can be converted from one form to another. October 1: Wonders of Chemistry - Instructor, Stephen Gould, PH.D. Chemistry, Cornell University. Make “gold” and “silver” pennies. Carry out striking color changes with food. Work with the super slurping material in baby diapers and with “magic” sand. October 8: Cool Kicks - Instructor, Harley Spiller, Museum Educator. Study the anatomy of human feet and the science of creating functional and comfortable shoes. See a collection of footwear for many purposes and create your own futuristic shoe designs. October 15: Beads from Around the World - Lisa Breslof, Sr. Instructor, Education Dept., American Museum of Natural History. Learn about beads and beading and make your own jewelry incorporating styles from around the world. October 22: Cool Science - Stephen Gould, PH.D. Chemistry, Cornell University. Discover the amazing properties of dry ice. It's extreme coldness, its ability to go straight from a solid to a gas, its fire extinguishing property. October 29: Investigate Boneless Critters - Instructor, Dr.Merryl Kafka is retired Curator of Education at the NY Aquarium. Invertebrates! Millions of animals species have no bones, but can move in many ways; they can slither, crawl, swim, fly, jump, or burrow to protect themselves. We will explore adaptations and major animal groups with biofacts and an art activity. November 5: Wonderful Whales - Instructor, Dr. Merryl Kafka is retired Curator of Education at the NY Aquarium. These majestic marine mammals are related to us, and yet they spend their entire lives in the oceans! Come and explore the world of whales, their behavior and biology, along with biofacts, games and an art activity. November 12: Fish and Sharks - Instructor, Dr. Merryl Kafka is retired Curator of Education at the NY Aquarium Touch biofacts, do a fish dissection, and an art activity to learn about the survival strategies of the most numerous vertebrates on earth - FISH. Students will learn what makes a fish a fish, and how they eat, swim, behave, breed and defend themselves. November 19: First Grade First Aid - Instructor: Harley Spiller; Museum Educator. Learn basic first aid as you build your own backpack First Aid Kit. November 26: Wave Em High! Instructor Harley Spiller, Museum Educator. A quick survey of international flags turns fanciers into vacillophiles. Study the history of flags and create your own banner to take home. December 3: #2 Yellow - Instructor Harley Spiller, Museum Educator. Why is the yellow pencil yellow? From black lead to styluses, the pencil has been an essential human tool. Handle an amazing collection and start your own museum of graphology December 10: Happy Feet - Instructor, Lisa Breslof, Education Dept., American Museum of Natural History Museum. Animate Me for 7/8s & Up with Creative Brushfires: NEW! Let's create a world of our own! We'll learn everything from creating a story to designing and building characters, to making backgrounds and of course making our creatures move. We'll also learn about animation artists and their wide range of techniques. Exercise, relax, play and unwind after a long day. 18 sessions $595 Aviation for 6/7s & Up: We stay on top of the latest designs in Aviation. To keep ahead we always teach you new and advanced models that fly. You will learn to make tons of different types of airplanes and fly them on the roof. You will become an expert in Aviation. Learn how to make electric and rubber band models made from wood and foam and you get to keep your planes. 12 sessions ends 12/18, $395. Aviation with Our Place until end of cycle, $475 Super Soccer Stars for 5/6s and 6/7s: It is our goal to teach soccer skills in a fun noncompetitive, educational environment. Exploring Clay for 4/5s-6/7s with Diana Jensen NEW! Pinching, pulling, poking, pounding, rolling... There are so may ways to change clay! Through individual and group work with clay, students will explore the different sculptural possibilities of this material, and the many ways it can be used to make designs and tell stories. SFC art teacher Diana Jensen, who teaches all children in the 4/5s through 6/7s, will support children in their growth as clay artists. 17 sessions, $555 Junior Sports Sampler for 5/6s and 6/7s: The sports include waffle ball, soft soccer and other games such as races, freeze tag and other activities to keep the children in a world of diversity. 9 sessions until 12/5, $360. Sports with Kids Club or Our Place until end of cycle, $470 Into the Woods for 6/7s & Up with Conor Gillespie: In fairy tales and folklore, the “enchanted forest” is a place of magic and adventure, where children and young heroes can overcome even the mightiest of obstacles. The woods are a place where heroes defeat monsters, not with weapons, but with clever words and kindness. This fall we will journey into an enchanted forest of our own design. Using theatre, movement, and art we will craft our own tales of wizards and witches, goblins and fools, unicorns and dragons and then immerse ourselves in the stories we create. After exploring our stories we will compile them into a volume to bring home and share. So if you are pure of heart, quick of wit, or thirsty for adventure you are welcome to join us as we venture... Taste Buds for 4/5s to 6/7s: The Food Network has nothing on Taste Buds Kitchen, voted "Best Kids Cooking Class" by New York Magazine. Cook up a new tasty culinary adventure each week as you develop the skills to chop, mix and swirl your way to a food masterpiece. From nutritious meals to decadent desserts, this class will set you up to be a future Top Chef while expanding both food knowledge and palates with new ingredients. Budding chefs graduate as "developing Taste Buds" and receive an apron and personalized recipe book. 8 sessions ends 12/6, $445. Cooking with Kids Club/Our Place until end of cycle, $525 Broadway Bound for 5/6s and 6/7s: Every child gets their chance to shine in Broadway Bound. This class helps bring out the creativity of each child through singing, dancing, acting and theater games. We'll learn songs from Broadway shows and we'll make up some of our own dance moves. This class gives kids a fun place to express themselves. Broadway Bound Kids is in it's 6th year of provided unique performing arts classes for kids in the New York area. After moving to New York City, Sarah caught the 'Zumba-bug' and is passing it on to you! Sarah's Zumba class is an exciting, easy-to-follow and high-energy dance fitness-party. She uses all kinds of cool music - reggaeton, salsa, merengue, hip-hop, pop - to get you dancing! Zumba increases your energy, focus, self-confidence and coordination. Kids Club for Ages 4/5s and 5/6s

Offered Monday-Thursday 3-6pm and Friday 1-6pm. Kids Club begins on 9/17/13. Kids Club offers children the opportunity to develop and grow through art activities, simple cooking, block building, movement, dramatic play, stories, and deck time. The After School Staff considers it their responsibility to provide an atmosphere that is both caring and nurturing for children at this important time of day. Saima Fayyaz is the head teacher Monday through Friday. She is a very versatile and experienced teacher.

Our Place for Ages 6/7s and Up

Offered Monday-Thursday 3-6pm and Friday 1-6pm. Our Place begins on 9/11/13. Our Place is a special after school setting that offers children the opportunity to plan, create, and choose their own activities. Time is set aside for outdoor play, indoor games, art projects, healthy snacks, and other activities. Andrea Guttman is the head teacher Monday through Friday. Andrea is both an artist and a teacher.

1. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. 2. A class may be canceled if enrollment becomes insufficient to support it. 3. Fees are fully refundable until after the first class. 4. A late fee will be charged for registration received after Tuesday, September 3. 5. Registration for classes is currently online, payment for classes is not. After registering online you will receive an email confirming your slot in the class. In the fall you will receive a bill which you can pay by check or credit card. 6. Registration is finalized when payment is received. Limited financial assistance is available; please call Linda Lake (212-875-4430) for more information. 7. Drop-in service payment ($12/hour) for Kids Club or Our Place can be payed on the day of service by check or credit card. 8. All classes end at 4:30pm or 2:30pm on Fridays unless otherwise noted.
