Earn It! Keep It! Save It! MLK, Jr. Day of Service 2013
January 21, 2013 will mark the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday. This milestone is a perfect opportunity for Americans to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community.
In celebration of the MLK Jr. Day of Service and to promote VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) awareness, Earn It! Keep It! Save It! will be holding an outreach event to reach potential clients. Earn It! Keep It! Save It! (EKS), a program of the United Way of the Bay area, provides free tax preparation to low-income Bay Area residents. Tax season is quickly approaching and we want to spread the word of our free service!

Your responsibility as an EKS Outreach Ambassador will be to distribute outreach materials (EKS flyers/postcards) in specified locations to potential/future EKS clients. You will be on an outreach team of 5-10 other volunteers and an Outreach Captain. Your Captain will make sure you know where you need to be and when and will also ensure that you have the all the right materials and information to volunteer. There will be a brief introduction and training session prior to flyer distribution.
Distribution locations and Outreach Captains are as follows:
San Francisco - Powell St BART station and surrounding areas, Captain: Barie
Alameda - Bayfair Mall and Bayfair BART station, Captain: Kelly (FULL)
Contra Costa - Food Co Shopping Plaza near Richmond BART, Captain: Breana (FULL)
Hours for the event are 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Team captains will be wearing UNITED WAY T-shirts. Details on exact meet up locations will be emailed prior to event.
