CARE: Community Action for a Renewed Environment Risk Ranking Worksheet  
CARE stands for Community Action for a Renewed Environment. It is a 2-year program funded by the Environmental Protection Agency focused on identifying, prioritizing, and ranking environmental issues/concerns for action.

Our CARE program is in its second year and currently at the risk ranking milestone. This information assessment will be sent out community wide and the results will be made available online.

The purpose of this is to create an environmental educational campaign on the issues that rank the highest. Please let your friends and coworkers know about this, as it affects all of us in Cordova who strive to live in a responsible and sustainable community.

Odiak Pond Pollution
Odiak Pond is one of our only city parks with green space and has contamination from surrounding roadways, neighborhoods, adjacent buried landfill, old railway beds, and nearby leaky fuel tanks

Solid Waste
Solid waste includes all the trash that is transported to and created here in Cordova.  Besides trash and litter, this topic also includes recycling efforts and hazardous material disposal.

Unscooped Dog Poop
Changing dog owner's behavior to clean up after their dogs in Cordova to eliminate fecal coliform bacteria and other diseases.  Cordova has an estimated 162 pounds of pet waste daily, which amounts to over a ton in less than two weeks going into our waters.

Illegal Dumping
Illegal dumping occurs at the City Burn Pile and in small dumping areas out the road.  This topic also includes the illegal dumping of animal carcasses on our roadways and in streams from bridges
