Request for topics for upcoming survey

Birch Islanders, we are drafting a survey and we want YOUR input.

BIRPOA plans to send out a survey to identify the interests and concerns of island cottagers, and to use if Sand Lake develops a lake plan. We discussed this at the AGM last August; we now want MORE input to help make the survey really effective and representative. The broad topics below are already on the agenda, but you can help us flesh them out. You may also have other topics that should be included. When we get it completed, we will send you the survey, then get your collated responses back to everyone at the AGM.

Please read through the list of topics below, then add your own suggestions. Some concern all of Sand Lake, others are specific to Birch Island. Check mark the ones of greatest interest to you.

Safe boating, speeding on the water, danger to swimmers, to wildlife, other aspects of boat operation.

Wildlife protection, hunting, fishing.

The health of the lake itself: pollution, septic runoff, invasive species like zebra mussels and milfoil, algae.

"Neighborliness" concerns: sound and light pollution, mismanagement of trash and garbage, etc.

"The Look of the Lake" including all of Sand Lake: Traditional rustic style, or suburban style lawns. Water's edge structure and dock development. Retention or removal of trees and other vegetation. Choices of colors and materials.

The trails, signage, the library. Future use or development.

Social and community activities.

What additional topics should be included? Provide comments on any aspect; be brief or expansive, as you like: PLEASE PARTICIPATE, even if you are not a BIRPOA member. And remember: these are topics to include in the survey, not the survey itself
