Premier Scholarship Program

Prospective students (high school seniors) with exemplary academic and extracurricular accomplishments are invited to interview for the The Premier Scholarship Program. The Premier Scholarship Program includes the William T. Young, the William R. Kenan, and Trustee Scholarships. Students selected for the Premier Scholarship Program must demonstrate exceptional intellectual promise and the potential to make significant contributions to the Transylvania community. The 2013 Premier Scholarship Program Interview dates are: February 1, 8, 15, & 22. Students interviewing for Premier Scholarships will have the option of staying overnight on-campus on the evening prior to their interview date.

Trailblazers Scholarship Program

As a demonstration of our institutional commitment to diversifying the perspectives and experiences of our campus Transylvania has created the new Trailblazers Scholarship Program. Transylvania University selects Trailblazers Scholars on the basis of their academic success and intellectual engagement, their leadership and service experience, and their contributions to racial and ethnic diversity in their schools and communities. Selected prospective students (high school seniors) will be invited to campus to interview. The 2013 Trailblazer Scholarship Program Interview date is March 1. Students interviewing for the Trailblazers Scholarship Program will have the option of staying overnight on-campus on the evening of February 28.

Student Selection Committee

We are seeking current students interested in serving the Transylvania community by assisting with the recognition and recruitment of the next generation of Transylvania students. As a current student your perspective and input is critical to the success of the interview and selection process. Experience with the William T Young or Premier Scholarship program will be beneficial, but is not required. Selected students will serve on interview committees alongside Transylvania faculty, staff, and alumni and must agree to adhere by a strict code of confidentiality. Students selected to serve on the interview committee are welcome (and encouraged!) to also serve as day and/or overnight hosts for the programs. Students will not be permitted to miss class to serve on the interview committee.

Student Hosts

We are seeking current students to serve as day and overnight hosts for interviewees. Overnight hosts are responsible for welcoming our student guests to campus, acting as positive representatives of the Transylvania community, providing overnight accommodations in their residence hall room for interviewees, and escorting their prospective student around campus to events associated with the scholarship program. Overnight hosts must live on-campus and will also fulfill the responsibilities of Day hosts on the interview days (escorting students, visiting with prospective students as they wait to interview, etc.) Students interviewing for the Premier Scholarship Program will be invited to stay overnight on the evenings prior to their interview dates (the evenings of January 31, February 7, February 14, and February 21.) Students interviewing for the Trailblazers Scholarship Program will be invited to stay overnight on the evening of February 28. Day hosts will assist with creating a warm and welcoming environment for interviewees, escorting prospective students around campus on the day of their interview, spending time with prospective students as they wait to interview, and serve as positive representatives of the Transylvania community. Day hosts are not required to live on-campus. Student hosts are also welcome to apply for the Student Selection Committee, but if selected they will not interview the student that they host. You may apply to host students for one interview date or for multiple dates (see below.)
