We the undersigned believe that the decision to bring the practice of industrial gas extraction to a densely populated area—residential areas like the Town of Union, the Village of Endicott, and the Village of Johnson City—should be considered carefully. The process threatens our drinking water and air quality, will cost taxpayers money to reconstruct roads and maintain infrastructure, increases the risk of chemical spills and pollution, will create few lasting jobs, and will reduce our quality of life. We urge the Town of Union Board to pass a moratorium with regard to industrial gas extraction (“fracking.”)
