GTA closer chalkboard analogy for SSDs is a chalkboard that you have to erase completely in order to write to. Naturally, if there's something already there, you might want to maintain it, so you have to remember somehow what was there before you erase and then redraw it along with what you're adding or changing. That all happens in the SSD drive controller.

What TRIM does is allow the OS (which knows what the file system looks like) to tell the drive controller (which doesn't) that a block of data in the SSD (which can be rather large... upwards of 512KB in some cases) is no longer needed, so the SSD controller doesn't need to read the block before it can erase and write it. That's where you get the performance increase.

[1] Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Processor 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro RAM 2GB Weight 4.58 ounces Dimensions 2.57 × 5.09 × 0.41 inches Battery 2200 mAh (12 hours talk) Rear camera 10MP Clear Pixel Front camera 2MP (1080p video) Display 4.7-inch AMOLED 720×1280 Storage 16GB (or 32GB)
[2] everything the iPhone is not. Rather than a tightly controlled look and feel for the device, Motorola will let customers tweak the colors and materials. Instead of the latest specifications, Moto X employs a solid -- but not cutting-edge -- set of hardware features. Instead of a proprietary operating system built for one device, it runs on an open platform available to hundreds of other phones.
[3] the 16GB version of the device would be available with a two-year contract from each of the four main wireless operators -- AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and T-Mobile-- for $199.
[4] While AT&T and Sprint issued bold press releases talking about the Moto X and the benefits of running it on their network, Verizon and T-Mobile were essentially mute. “The Moto X is compatible with T-Mobile’s network; however, we have no further announcements at this time,” T-Mobile said in a statement. That didn’t exactly sound like a ringing endorsement, so I checked in with the top brass at T-Mobile. Here’s what Chief Marketing Officer Mike Sievert had to say: “The Moto X optimized for T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network will initially be available through Motorola’s channels,” Sievert told AllThingsD. “We do not plan to stock Moto X devices immediately in our stores but are working closely with Motorola to make the Moto X a great experience for T-Mobile customers. Any news about distribution in our stores would come at a later date.”
[5] A user in the Chromium bug tracker (Chromium is Chrome's open source backbone) recently reported running tests on a variety of mobile devices. Among them, a Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 were listed as having the KRS36B build of Android.
[6] Samsung is hosting an Unpacked event in Berlin, Germany on September 4 just before the annual IFA show begins in the city. The star of the show? Looking at this we're certainly looking at a new Galaxy Note device, possibly the Note 3. On the same day too, Samsung will be hosting an experience in New York City, for those not able to get to Berlin.
[7] The supposed Galaxy Folder isn’t a normal flip phone. The Folder runs Android 4.2.2, sports two 3.7″ AMOLED touch-screen displays with resolutions of 800×480 (one front and back), a Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE connectivity and a battery of 1,820mAh battery. The Folder is said to never get past Korean borders in terms of global availability
[8] When you create profiles on Netflix, each one acts like a sub-account with its own recommendations, history, and streaming queue. Although, Netflix didn't even mention the individual queues this time – they seem more interested in personalized recommendations and Facebook integration. You'll even be able to set up profiles with different combinations of people or different moods. First up to get profiles are the website, iPad, iPhone, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Apple TV, and some smart TVs and Blu-ray players. Android is coming sometimes this fall.
