GTVOICEMAIL: Michael from Fresno: Question about apps that gain Dropbox accesshttps://soundcloud.com/allaboutandroid/michael-from-fresno-dropboxAUDIO

.

Two-part question gets two-part answer: First, about passwords. Apps that get Dropbox access do NOT store your Dropbox password, they use OAuth, which is a more secure way for you to grant an application acces to your account (whether it's Dropbox, or Twitter, or Facebook, or Gmail) with certain restrictions (read-only, write, only certain parts of your data). That's why when you change your Dropbox password, applications you've granted access don't lose their access--they're not storing your password, they're storing special app-specific tokens.
Second question about Dropbox access -- an application can ask for either full access to your entire Dropbox, OR just a single folder. So when you allow an app to acces your Dropbox, it will say so there whether it's a single folder or the whole shebang. Some apps may need to use your entire Dropbox to work, but others may just need a sandboxed place to store their stuff.

[1] "The White House agrees with the 114,000+ of you who believe that consumers should be able to unlock their cell phones without risking criminal or other penalties. In fact, we believe the same principle should also apply to tablets, which are increasingly similar to smart phones. And if you have paid for your mobile device, and aren’t bound by a service agreement or other obligation, you should be able to use it on another network. It’s common sense, crucial for protecting consumer choice, and important for ensuring we continue to have the vibrant, competitive wireless market that delivers innovative products and solid service to meet consumers’ needs."
[2] Judge Lucy Koh, who presided over the oft discussed on this show Samsung/Apple case last year, slashed the amount owed to Apple by Samsung from 1.049 billion to $450,514,650, while encouraging both sides to do the appeals process before jumping right into a new trial. And I'm done.
[3] The phone will track a user’s eyes to determine where to scroll, said a Samsung employee who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the news media. For example, when users read articles and their eyes reach the bottom of the page, the software will automatically scroll down to reveal the next paragraphs of text. The source would not explain what technology was being used to track eye movements, nor did he say whether the feature would be demonstrated at the Galaxy S IV press conference, which will be held in New York on March 14. The Samsung employee said that over all, the software features of the new phone outweighed the importance of the hardware.
[4] iOS has always performed better than Android in one key front: Audio and music production apps. The reason? Android currently has around 2-300ms latency when it comes to audio-in, as opposed to iOS's 20ms latency. Sonoma Wire Works has cracked the problem with their own hardware solution, bringing audio-in latency on Android down to that same 20ms level. It runs on ICS+ and the demo ran on a Galaxy Nexus. They are including an API so others can tap into it, and looking to license to hardware manufacturers. I've got a better idea: GOOGLE. BUY THEM. They just solved your problem for you.
[5] A new experimental feature to optimize web content and save bandwidth: The data compression feature is disabled by default. Users who want to try it may do so by visiting chrome://flags and choosing Enable Data Compression Proxy.  Users can check the bandwidth savings themselves by going to chrome://net-internals and then clicking on Bandwidth. Also added: Password sync and autofill.
[6] Twitter is killing support for v1.0 of the Twitter API, and along with it, TweetDeck apps for Android and iOS. Not only will support stop for the apps, the apps will stop working sometime in early May.
[7] Nail down specific details as to how your battery is being used. Visit XDA-developers.com for a free working version. If you use and like it, go to the play store and pay $1.99.
