1Melvin Ingram6.7South Carolina6014/264Main issue is getting stuck in no man's land, lacks ability to quickly read and react to either run or pass. Is it bc of lack of length to separate? Problem is he doesn't engage enough with his hands/arms, prefers to step back to create space rather than pressing. Needs to stop over-thinking and just react, is that possible? Flashes very high level play when decision is made up early. Versus run when at best, stays low with leverage, strong hands/arms and can weave between lanes or hold edge to make tackle. Can really make tackles in short areas, punishing hitter. Overruns plays at times, bootlegs etc, or leaves lane responsibility, but flashes ability to use proper tech and win vs run inside or out. Gets too high off the snap but so built that he has a natural anchor. At his best pass rushing: shoulders over toes, arms extended, firing out low, very difficult to stop his momentum. May have the best closing burst in the draft, one step & almost full speed. Also utilizes an arm over swim even against bigger tackles, understands when they are over extended. Effective inside spin while at DT. Makes contact with arms too low, tough to see in backfield that way. Likes to undercut. Can really breakdown in backfield to make consistent tackles. Rolls away on the edge wehn QBs scramble outside. Sniffs out screens but focuses on QB too much instead of locating RB/receiver. Will be great when he consistently uses a low get-off with extended arms, consistently gets OTs off balance with momentum when he does- flashes this ability so I think its definitely possible. Can't limit him to one position but I think best a DE and DT on 3rd down. Charles Johnson type?http://bit.ly/zqF2Rt

.

2Courtney Upshaw6.5Alabama6014/273/4.76Relentless rusher, can stick outside foot in ground and work back in, incorporates spin too. Sound at preparing hands right before contact, even on quick blitz pickup. Rotates between LDE and RDE, experience from a 2pt stance too. Breaks down in the backfield, reliable 1on1 tackler. Utilizes a hesitation/delay rush, step back and then strong burst forward. Has some wiggle on the outside, subtle movements to keep OL off balance and off target. Can have trouble vs cut blocks, does not work around immediately. Handles kick out blocks with inside shoulder, responsible player. Takes strong angles at QB, doesn't loop, dictates where OL moves. Jump at the snap is not always great. Never shies away from contact, dips head a bit too much on contact though. Too often unable to see in backfield to determine if play is run or pass on first down. Plays with shoulders over toes frequently but under control. Even when he has inside hand control, struggles at times to disengage on the outside when not using under rip. Does he have a consistent power rush to the chest vs bigger OL? A jolting/unloading punch could really help with power to chest. Great angles vs run and pass, aggressively closes. Utilizes arm over swim as counter move.http://bit.ly/GU3pIk

.

3Nick Perry6.1USC6026/250/4.64Solid straight line get off but once that is stuffed can he bend? Swats hands down quite a bit, doesn't allow OT to get hands on and latch. Very good burst off the line. Beats RT to the spot around the edge. Gets into backfield quickly when uncovered. Lacks change of direction burst and short area quickness to plant and fluidly make tackle after RB move. Stands in place when asked to spy instead of flowing before reacting. Does not handle cut blocks very well, doesn't power through low OL. Solid initial contact, powerful lower body. Stays low when face up on TE, jolts TE back. Uses length to wrap up and tackle. Has to run around OT instead of bending around the corner, longer angles. Struggles to beat G/T double teams. Creates separation best by swatting down hands instead of extending arms. Don't think he can plant outside and work back in. Only edge around? Looks to occupy hands when working around edge. Has some difficulty engaging versus the run at the point of attack. Tries to spin outside anytime first step is inside. Lacks burst when looping inside on twist/stunt. Limited in ability to win consistently, lacks elite bend/moves.http://bit.ly/H74X1X

.

4Dont'a Hightower6.1Alabama6033/260/4.78Played all over the defense, 3-4 ILB, LDE in nickel, OLB in 3-4. Won't show off a tremendous burst flowing to the ball but runs through blocks. Moves around at the snap on pass rush situations, beats RB easily with power. Finds blitzing lanes from ILB spot, finds contact through hands and looks to shed immediately. Much better straight line closing burst then flowing laterally. Even covers some RBs in the slot, man to man, is sure to make contact. A little bit of indecision on initial step vs the run, too short, needs to extend. Pass rushes from LDE well, arm over swim vs over extended OL. Always finds first contact through hands but they could jolt more. Hip turn in zone coverage is adequate, won't blow up many underneath catches. I like how his hands are up on 1st contact but wish he would unload more. When asked to fill lane vs FB he's a thumper, but waits at 2nd level other times. Strong vs blocks, may not jolt from the start but holds ground or pushes forward. I think he is more nimble than given credit for. Does lack change of direction fluidity but first step dropping is good. Very thickly built. Questionable hands catching. Doesn't read the backfield outstandingly well, needs to react while reading. May be susceptible to quick twitch RB movements, needs to be less tentative, keep feet moving, anticipate. Benefit from playing behind Chapman? Both can really hold their ground. Actually can beat RT to spot on the edge, aggressive pass rush angles. A truly punishing hitter at times. Not a real technical pass rusher, prefers to keep away from grasp. There are times he stalks RB very well, other times he stands still.http://bit.ly/InQ9Op

.

5Andre Branch5.9Clemson6042/260/4.774 sacks vs VaTech. Creates separation in multiple ways: Length, qks, hand control. Helps him hold edge vs run. Difficulty disengaging while penetrating or at the LOS to make tackles. Struggled against TE Bryan, controlled/pancaked. Good burst/first step, experience all over the line even in two point stance. Many pressures from 2 point stance, delayed blitz inside, + closing speed. Initial upfield line can be a bit looping, can plant and cut back inside, could improve timing. Struggles vs RB blocks and screen passes. + hustle, + in few flat coverage cases.http://bit.ly/w2trqH

.

6Whitney Mercilus5.9Illinois6032/265/4.68Struggles to beat a double, gets too close to OL pads. Will not anchor/recover once OL has gotten under pads vs inside run. Understands his responsibility to hold the edge and force inside. Very poor vs the run inside/stunting, dips head. Doesn't play with the athleticism he showed in combine workout. Penetrates upfield on pocket boundary but does not angle enough directly at QB. When he does get a jump around the edge he takes nice angle and bends with with arms extended to slap ball, keeps OL hands off with length. Good closing burst, great hustle player, chases sideline to sideline. Flashes outside step to inside move, remains untouched but push takes him off his rush line. Loses leverage too often after first contact, he is the one getting bowed up. Needs to arm bar with inside to inside, anchor with outside foot and hold edge. Flashes sense when to shed under vs overextended OL. Can jump and time the snap well, knows when he has extra step. Solid dip of shoulder to turn the corner when he has the step, releases from OL. Disrupts stretch plays with upfield penetration. Gives his shoulder up too easily on down blocks.http://bit.ly/GU9G6U

.

7Shea McClellin5.9Boise State6032/248/4.74Plays all over the field, two point on edge, three point at RDE, even inside/outside LB in 4-3. Very good burst off the edge, can beat LTs with quickness and ins't afraid to engage in contact, fight through armbar/length. Reaction timing isn't outstanding, gets caught in no man's land on edge when not given defined role, aka purely pass rush. Good A gap blitzer, always seems to time the snap very well. Certainly are times where he is controlled in one on one blocks, even by TEs on the edge. Quick twitch reaction skills in the backfield to breakdown and anticipate. If he loses leverage and hand control on edge, LTs have much better advantage, struggles to disengage or anchor in these situations. Takes on blockers at the second level very well, contact and shed. If initial path is blocked at the snap he lacks true burst on second line. Don't see consistent bend on edge, angles can loop too much. Made many tackles on missed blocks/assignments, keeps balanced edge responsibly. Excellent at inside twists to rip under. Wins equally around the edge or sticking foot in ground and working in. Can get beaten to edge spot by RB if follows crashing OL down. Really like how he weaves between lanes but doesn't always eat up ground doing it. Very persistent player with high motor. Not stand out at Sr Bowl week, played 4-3 OLB, looked stiff in space at times. Does he have the power to extend under shoulder pads and push back?http://bit.ly/I1BqTM

.

8Jonathan Massaquoi5.8Troy6020/250/4.66Uses hands for placement when working through trash, needs to be stronger in these situations, stay on his feet. Mostly a DE in 3 and 4 man fronts. On the ground far too often, even in pass rush. Has tremendous length and long steps, but length does not always come with strength. Best when arms extend to chest and lift OL off balance, then takes inside release. Lacks short area burst to move laterally and to release past slowing blocker. Doesn't have a real natural anchor because base is too high, especially when not extended, needs to plant, sit, and extend. Active hands when he has the leverage and gets OL off balance, lower and rips under to release by. Twisting inside is quicker than expected but needs to meet contact with extended arms. Would be much better if that initial contact slowed him down less, meet it with extension and driving feet. Adequate closing burst on free rush bc of long strides, asked to frequently take inside rush lane. Change of direction to react outside is lacking. Great combination of shorter height which lowers pad level but longer arms to separate.http://bit.ly/JmDbfR

.

9Cam Johnson5.8Virginia6036/267/4.76Ideal frame & length. Menacing frame does not equal play style. + Adequate get off, will not consistently get to corner with qks. Caught in grasp too often, does not effectively use length/hands. Best counter move is plant outside and work back inside. - power counter. Grabs and latches on first contact rather than immediately shedding. Understands edge responsibility vs run, capable on the edge. Occasionally can get turned on reaches or when undercutting. Rarely plays in space.http://bit.ly/yhFEeY

.

10Ronnell Lewis5.8Okalhoma6021/244/4.63Short steps forward read deciphering developing play. Does not defend cut block very well. Mostly plays at 3-4 OLB, sometimes DE in 3 man front, DE in 4-3. Fights through contact on the edge with swipes instead of latching and extending. Nothing special in coverage, chops feet in space, drives on underneath routes, drops head on tackles occasionally. May get thrown down if coming off the line too high and attempting to take inside line. Can really blow up runs on the edge, get upfield by releasing past pulling OL. Best when starting outside line to get OL overextended, then planting outside foot and working inside. Will need to be more of a power/technique rusher than edge/speed, therefore needs to improve punch to chest and press, needs to keep fighting for position and chop feet. Good at attempting to swat ball down if not going to reach QB. Fantastic special teams player. Doesn't cover enough ground when rushing inside. Struggles to disengage at times despite active hands. Reliable wrap up tackler, even around the ankles.http://bit.ly/HBFfoh

.

11Kyle Wilber5.6Wake Forest6035/249/4.70Experienced at 3-4OLB, usually on right side. Focuses on blocking TE vs run but even is TE is a few steps too wide, could have used inside move. Doesn't use length enough, plays somewhat small, gets skinny chasing down the line. Focuses too much on his 1on1 instead of thinking about ultimate goal of getting to QB. Balanced in space, qide base and reacts for tackles. Reliably wrap up tackler with long wingspan. Looks comfortable on edge and in sapce, can jam TE or slot WR at the line, okay in short zones with open hips but can he plant in one step and drive? Adeq closing burst, nothing special, needs a better jump off the snap. RB blocks stunt his momentum. Not asked to plant foot in ground and anchor with length enough, but I'm intrigued by his length and comfort in space, just needs to use it to advantage.http://bit.ly/yweyBJ

.

12Bruce Irvin5.5West Virginia6022/245/4.54Miscast as DE in 3-3-5, 14 sacks JR yr. + speed rush, +adeq burst off LOS, outside dip. Rushers passer like RB, avoids contact/finds open lanes. -counter move, helpless after momentum is stopped, -phys rarely engages. Tentative vs run, -responsibility/edge. Bites on fakes, adeq short area qks. + frame. Situational pass rusher to start.http://bit.ly/zNWieb

.

13Olivier Vernon5.4Miami6021/261Plays DE in 4 man front, OLB in 3 man. Lacks a good burst off the LOS, arms close to body but arches to unload/gain leverage. Can get skinny through gaps but needs to use hands better to control/create separation, at least a rip. Loses footing too often vs run, recovers quickly. Adequate in space, makes contact with WR at the line, fluid hips. Best pass rush comes inside on 3rd downs from DT, good burst with low pad level, direct angle at QB. Struggles to get going once slowed on outside rush, caught in OL grasp. Does keep legs driving on the outside, but loses angle to QB, lacks shed skills. Loses edge responsibility vs cut blocks. Lacks instincts to understand aggressive angles beyond 3rd down. Gets pressure when attacking a shoulder, swim or rip and split gap.http://bit.ly/JsK83J

.

14Brandon Lindsey5.3Pittsburgh6015/255/4.68Good get off, slaps away OT hands to get by. Allows QB to step up in pocket on rush line rather than anticipating, breaking down and working back inside. Lacks upper body power, can't press pocket with strength after quick upfield step. Get off will only win so much, doesn't do enough with it. Lacks even a first move with hands, all feet. Swats with hands instead of gripping and disengaging. Runs line vs run, inside arm on inside shoulder, shoulders squared. Has trouble disengaging vs run, would rather never engage. Overruns QB, can he plant and work back inside? Has some real straight line speed but lacks COD and no counter move. Flashes ability in space, played LB at Shrine. Dances at POA.http://bit.ly/xrhE9k

.

15Audie Cole5.3NC State6041/248/4.84Moved from SLB to ILB in '11. Lacks sideline to sideline spd and instincts, not a lateral player. Best work between tackles vs run, forces plays inside if he can't make play. Good form taking on blocks, leads with shoulder, could use hands more. Consistently unable to get outside or to short passes, marginal lateral quicks. Vs outside plays, hesitates on initial step/read. + fills lanes inside, unable to breakdown in backfield. Whiffs on some tackles in space. Attempts to disrupt downfield TEs, limited trailing speed. Fair hip turn, lacks fluidity. + pass rusher, SLB or ILB?http://bit.ly/yOYozF

.

16Jake Bequette5.2Arkansas6044/264/4.62Played OLB in 4-3 at Senior Bowl, two point/3 point stance in college at end in 4-3 or OLB in 3-4. Lacks a natural anchor vs crashing OL, gets taken off plant foot and driven back. Lots of difficulty when working over blocks, regaining position to stop running lane. Comes out of the gate low and with arms fairly extended, first contact can jolt OL back but does not sustain that push and ends up losing ground. Does not look to shed, prefers to just drive on chest with hands low. Certainly does not have short area quickness in space. Gets taken down to ground when overextended or unbalanced. Gets too far directly upfield, needs better angles. Linear. Decisions to take inside route allow open edge to ball carrier.http://bit.ly/JvSwiM

.

17Darius Fleming5.1Notre Dame6012/255/4.65http://bit.ly/wpngFU

.

18Adrian Robinson5.1Temple6005/237/4.73Mostly LDE in 4-man front. Lacks short area quickness in space, stiff hips. Adequate get off but doesn't do anything with it if initial momentum is stuffed. doesn't get push. Hesitates when facing a backfield blocker, focuses on that blocker instead of ultimate goal of QB. Attempts different initial moves like spin move, dip to the outside is the best. Doesn't crash down from the weakside at full speed. Lacks lateral burst, once stopped he won't beat RB to tackle point. Keeps edge responsibility but needs to factor in his lack of burst more. Does not use hands enough to control vs run/pass.http://bit.ly/IciP7V

.

19Tahir Whitehead5.0Temple6011/233/4.70NCAA situational pass rusher, + variety of moves (push/pull). At LOS from diff spots, 2pt stance. + bend at edge, needs to keep driving feet. Stays in rush lane. + closing spd. - counter power, reaches for QB arm. Rarely in vs run, suspect, adeq s2s spd, + runs line. - reaction to stretch runs, - form vs blocks. Adeq in cvg, better in zone. - aqility to stay w/crossing routes. Adeq burst off snap, - pop, + hands for size. + hitter. Qker than fast.http://bit.ly/x0J6ES
