The pair quickly settled down, Idris showing himself to be mature and a good provider. Lots of intruder visitors to the nest - Rutland female Blue 3AF (17), Dyfi males Aeron Z2 (17), Dinas KS6 (18) and Tegid Z1 (16), Clywedog female KS8 (18), Poole translocated female 014, South Argyll female LJ2 (18), Esthwaite male 284 (18). One egg did not hatch, but the other two chicks (two males) were ringed and named Twyi (KC7) and Teifi (KC6), and fledged successfully. Twyi (KC7) was later sighted on migration in Devoran, Cornwall on 20 Sept, the last Dyfi sighting of the 2020 season.

She paired up with a new unringed male, successfully laid and hatched 3 eggs. The youngest chick did not thrive, and was removed from nest, leaving two healthy chicks. Chicks were ringed LH0 and LH1, and satellite tagged, both assessed to be young males. LH1 made great progress, migrating via Ibiza, but tag stopped transmitting 13 Oct, last location was just north of W Sahara border with Mauritania. LH0 sighted wintering in Huelva in S Spain, photographed there by Chris Wood in Feb 2018.

BlueDF successfully raised two chicks with an unringed female. He was recaptured under licence in early September and fitted with a satellite tag. However data transmissions stopped, most likely a tag failure.

A calmer season led to 3 eggs successfully hatching. One male (Z2, Aeron) and two female (Z3 Menai & Z4 Eitha) chicks successfully ringed. All 3 chicks successfully fledged the nest, & youngest Eitha caught at least 2 flounder for herself before migration, a first proven sighting of a chick successfully fishing at Dyfi. Blue 24 returned once more to the Dyfi nest at the end of August. Monty once again stayed a few days after the last chick's departure before leaving on 2 September.

Her 2016 nest had been removed. She started nestoration on the main nest, but was quickly ousted when Glesni returned. She was seen several times at Dyfi and other Welsh nests, and moved towards Glaslyn area where she was observed with Scottish male HR7.

Did not return to nest :(	--	--	--	--	The Loch Garten season appeared initially to be going well, with return of 20 year old EJ and Odin, and the subsequent laying of three eggs. The first egg had just hatched when intruders started harrassing the nest, including ringed/tagged bird PP7 (13) known as Cromarty. On 18 May, just as the second egg was hatching, Odin disappeared chasing intruders, and never returned. EJ waited patiently for him, but both chicks perished. The third egg subsequently hatched, and chick survived two days before also dying. EJ remained in the nest area, defending it from a series of unringed and ringed birds, including males Blue FC5, FC8, PU & female CT6. EJ was last seen on 14 July in the afternoon, and it is not known whether she departed early on migration or mysteriously disappeared like Odin.

Blue 5F(Rutland, 12) was also seen at the nest, but the returning breeding unringed female known as Delyth arrived on 1 April and took over her nest. She had to wait over two weeks for her 2016 mate, unringed male known as Dylan, to arrive on 17 April. Eggs were laid, and it is thought at least 2 hatched, but only one chick thrived. On ringing, it was assessed as female, but a mix up meant it received only a metal BTO ring, not a Darvic, so it was given a name Deryn. The chick fledged successfully

The third egg was very white. Egg 2 did not hatch, was retrieved at ringing & sent to Uni of Sheffield for analysis. First chick, ringed Z0, female named Ceri fledged successfully but on the evening of Sunday 19 July sudddenly fell from larch perch during roosting, and 12 hours in the marsh before successfully flying back, only to be knocked off again by brother Tegid landing on her. She made it back up to the nest, where she remained, refusing to eat, for three days. At 11.56 on 20 July, she stretched up & fell forwards RIP. Tegid continued to thrive as the sole chick, fed by both parents until Glesni departed mid August, and then with mullet whoppers by Monty until he started his migration on 28 August, aged 88 days. Monty stayed a few extra days and left on 1 September.

Remained near nest, mating with Monty.			--	--	--	--	-	--	--	--	--	4/9/2016 10:15	--	--	--	--		Blue 24 first seen up at ON5 but was ousted and returned to Dyfi, where she was allowed to land on the second nest and Monty mated with her. Around midday on 17 April was observed to be incubating & Monty supported her for a few days before stopping delivering fish. Eventually she had to fish for herself & forced to abandon the eggs. A drone sent over the nest during one of her absences revealed 3 eggs. She gradually withdrew from presence on Cors Dyfi for a few weeks, but would show up and hang out with Monty away from the main nest. Once Glesni migrated, she moved in closer once more, dive bombed Tegid, and took up residence on the larch perch and nestcam pole at the end of the season. Having been first to arrive, she was the last to leave Cors Dyfi on 4 September.

Dai Dot seen at Dyfi on 27 April, suggesting he'd lost his nest whilst a new much whiter chested male observed on nest with breeding female.

After several days of mating, the female was observed to be incubating once again, and on 16 June the first feeding behaviour was recorded, and eventually three chicks' heads could be seen on the nest - an extremely rarely seen case of a full second clutch. The chicks were ringed X3, X4, X5, and all successfully fledged & were the last of the Welsh bred nests to migrate, having hatched later than other nests. Two juveniles were still on the perch on 13 September, but no sightings of any ospreys were observed from 14 Sept.

One chick hatched successfully but was not ringed due to difficulty of access to nest. Chick fledged 14 July. 2012 juvenile BlueYD sighted in August, still wearing tracker which stopped transmitting in Yorkshire in 2014 on his first return migration.

The chicks were ringed at around 8.30 am on Friday 3 July, and ringed W1 (Merin, unsure, but orig though female, weight 1450g), W2 (Celyn female, weight 1580g) and W3 (Brenig, male, weight 1300g). All 3 chicks successfully fledged and migrated. DNA testing in 2017 revealed W1 was in fact male. There have been no reported sightings of any of the chicks so far.

Mrs G then laid the first of a seond clutch, and the first to be properly incubated by both birds. A surprise second egg was laid 5 days later. The new male was named Aran. On 4 June, during an intruder incident, the second egg was accidentally kicked out of the nest cup, remaining on the side of the nest overnight, but rolled back by Aran. Both eggs hatched right on schedule despite this.

Odin finally returned and intrusions reduced, but eventually EJ gave up incubation. A period of relative calm ensued before a female blue ringed osprey arrived, EJ disappeared and Odin provided fish to the new female, now identified as BlueYA. A blue ringed male, then an unringed male and unringed female also land on the nest in late June and share fish there, before it is regained by EJ and Odin.

On 10/4 Arklet not seen, & Katrine was queen of the nest but with leg injury. However on 23/4 Aberfoyle reported Arklet was building a rival nest with Drunkie, see below. First chick hatched on 30 May, and on 5 June report of 2nd chick, suggesting it was only 3rd egg that hatched. Chicks ringed 3 July, one male named Lonaig, one female, Murrin. Ring numbers not released but a aatellite tracker was fitted to male. Brief controversy when Aberfoyle posted pictures showing lots of children handled the chicks during ringing, and the information was removed again from the Aberdyfi FB page. The BTO confirmed it was investigating the ringing. Lonaig left on 25th August, making a remarkable migration via Northern Ireland, the Scilly Isles and over the Bay of Biscay, including at one point going off track and seemingly then turning back until he had found his proper route again. He then settled in south west Portugal, but Lonaig was reported dead by Aberfoyle Ospreys on 11 Dec 2014, his body was collected. Murrin successfully migrated and returned in 2016 but sadly hit a fence and died further north.

He arrived back on the nest on 11 April, too late for a pre-season fling with EJ at Loch Garten as in 2013, as she was already settled with Odin! Green J arrived home on April 14th. She did lay eggs but they failed around hatching time. On 16 June, Green J went on a trip down to the Borders area, near Camps Reservoir but then returned to her nest on 14 July. Blue XD was seen regularly fishing at Rothiemurchus estate and Aviemore. Green J left again on 7 August, and reached her winter home at Embalse Gabriel y Galan in Spain at 11am on 29 August. BlueXD stayed much longer, only leaving on migration on 6 September, arriving at his wintering site on the river Casamanche in Senegal on 22 Sept.

Monty arrived 8/4 & chased DD down estuary. Blue24 stayed behind, ate Monty's fish but rejected his advances until dawn on 10/4. Shortly after Glesni arrived on nest and major & brutal fight broke out which then lasted several days, both day and night, with Glesni finally reclaiming her nest on 15/4. She laid two eggs, the first, a very white one, on 2 May and the second 4.5 days, just as people were giving up hope of more! They duly hatched and the chicks dubbed Bob1 and Bob2. Blue24 continued to be a nuisance, occasionally divebombing and intruding on the nest. Chicks were ringed at 7.30-8.15am on 15 July by Tony Cross. Bob 1, a male, given ring 3R and name Gwynant (white stream). Bob 2, a female, given ring 5R and name Deri (a Welsh river). Gwynant fledged early, at 49 days, and Deri at 51 days. Glesni departed on migration on 19 August and within three days both Dai Dot and Blue24 had reappeared on Cors Dyfi! Gwynant was last seen on the larch perch late on Saturday 30 August, aged 83 days, so probably set off on migration by the following morning. Deri remained shouting for fish and defending the nest from crows and magpies another 5 days, and was last seen on Thurs 4 August at 10.33am. Monty did not depart immediately as in 2013, but spent another 3 days fishing and relaxing at Dyfi before heading off at 10:50 on Sunday 7 August.

He reluctantly shared any fish, but one day brought two fish, one in each talon, only to drop one over the side of the nest. Dai was chased off by Monty on 8 April, whilst a 5 day battle between B24 and Glesni raged before Glesni finally won the day. DD has not been seen since, but B24 remained in the area, patronising a nearby platform, with Monty appearing to tolerate her. In late June and early July a new male appeared in the area and was seen displaying for B24 several times. Two days after Glesni departed, on 21 August Dai Dot visited the nest for the first time since being chased away by Monty, landing next to Deri who treated him to her lovely voice, and later attempting to land with both chicks present. The very next day, Blue24 visited the nest with Deri again loudly mantling at her.

Nest proceeded without any major problems, first chick hatching on 13 May, an d all 3 chicks ringed on 19 June. Oldest chick believed to be male (ringed 9C), and the youngest (7C) female. 8C was originally thought to be female, but later the project suggested that in face it could be a male after all. 9C was thought to have migrated in early August only to reappear at the nest site two weeks later, clearly able to catch fish! He was last seen on 25 August. The last confirmed sighting of 7C was also 25 August, although juveniles were seen in the area on 29 August and 31 August, but not ID'd. The last confirmed sighting of 8C was 30 August. Mrs Glaslyn was seen catching a flatfish which she brought to the nest on the evening of 2 Sep, the last time she was seen, so very likely migrated the next morning. 11(98) was last seen on a favoured perch at Morfa Harlech on 3 & 4 Sep.

This female mated with YA and was at the nest until the resident female returned. There was also a visit from a Tweed Valley female, White EB who met on this nest with Yellow 37 from Nest 2, and they then went off to his nest. Mrs YA returned on 8/4, seeing off the unringed female. Three eggs were laid and all successfully hatched. Chicks were ringed on 17 July, two females weighed in at a hefty 1950g each, and one male at 1600g. One female (known as the bully on the nest!) was ringed Blue VV and fitted with a tracker, as was the male, Blue UV. Remaining female was ringed only, BlueVT. All three chicks fledged with a few hours on the same day. All chicks migrated within a few days of each other in late August, early September. BlueVV's tracker stopped sending signals on 11 September when she at the edge of the Atlas mountains. UV last tracked in Senegal.

'Chaos at Kielder' on 1/4 when 37 dallied with a female WhiteEB (Tweed Valley) on Nest1 then took her back to his own nest. She was replaced when Mrs 37 returned on 4/4! On 26/4 Kielder reported 1st egg laid not on main nest but new nest platform. Three eggs then successfully all hatched. Chicks were ringed on 17 July, all found to be female, with even the smallest chick weighing in at 1900g, the biggest one the same, and the middle one at 1800g! The smallest one (7H) was fitted with a satellite tracker. The three chicks fledged within 24 hours of each other, making 6 fledged chicks in 24 hours for Kielder! 7H spent a lot of time in Portugal on migration, but the data from the sattag ended on 22 January, suggesting harm had come to the bird. However on 1 March, Pip Rowe holidaying in Morocco near Azemmour sighted the bird alive and well.

KL continued to feed it, but it died on 22 June, and she buried it on the nest under a pile of grass. 8A fledged successfully in late July, and set off on migration at end of August, reaching Senegal by mid-Sept. 9A tried to fledge on 4 August, but landed in farmers field unable to fly properly. Was rescued & taken to Millcroft Vets then transferred to SSPCA Rehabilitation Centre. Unfortunately a painful infection called coelomitis had taken hold and did not respond to treatment, so decision taken to put 9A to sleep around 15-16 September.

A mysterious unringed male intruder on 24/4 and 7/5 was seen off sharpish by EJ, but bore a remarkable resemblance to Odin. Chicks hatched successfully and it was a very peaceful nest, with little fighting between chicks and plentiful fish supplies. Ringing took place on 28 June, with first chick named MilliCENT in honour of 100th chick to fledge, and second named Seasca, Scots gaelic for 60 to commemorate LG's 60th anniversary. The two oldest were also tagged, but the youngest, Druie named after a local river, was not. Millicent lived up to her name by fledging first on 12 July, with the other two following on 15 and 17 respectively. EJ departed a month later on 18 August, and one day later the second chick, Seasca set off on migration for the first time. Millie and Druie left four days later, whilst Odin stayed a couple of days and was last seen on 25 August. Sad news came when Seasca's tracking signal was lost over the Bay of Biscay on 21 August.

Nest proceeded calmly, with first egg of a clutch of 3 laid 13 days later. Disaster struck on 7/5 when a crow smashed and stole an egg whilst Laddie was chasing off an intruder. Luckily Lady returned to the nest in time to prevent crow taking the remaining two which appeared intact despite the crow having had its beak around one of them. Neither of the remaining two eggs hatched, with Lady and Laddie incubating them for a whopping 74 days, and were finally removed for analysis on 26 June. This revealed neither contained a formed chick, one egg was completely unfertilised and the other only early signs of fertilisation that had then halted early on.

Repeated intrusions from another young Rutland male 33(11), and 28's infrequent fish deliveries led to long absence from egg incubation as Maya chased off 33 and fished for herself. Eventually 33(11) chased 28 off and started bringing sticks to the nest. On 28/4 he kicked the eggs from the nest, Maya rolled 2 back in, but eventually all kicked out again & abandoned. 28 was seen in the bay from time to time, but made no attempt to regain his nest.

Despite wooing Maya with fish, he didn't display and his mating attempts were rare and clumsy, despite her increasing willingness (desperation?) to mate with him. No further eggs were laid, but the pair continued to bond throughout the season, with 33 being an excellent fish provider. They stayed to protect the nest until well into September. Maya was last seen on Sunday 7 Sept.

By Fri 6 June it appeared chicks were dead. A female, thought to be the breeding one, reappeared on Sunday 8 June, but this unringed female turned out to be a new bird. The resident female now believed to be dead. Male reluctant to bond with new female but slowly accepting her.

In a bizarre twist, a third chick had not hatched because the egg had somehow ended up inside the empty shell of an earlier hatchling. A fully formed chick was found inside, but had not been able to chip its way out and had perished. The chicks were ringed FK7 (M) and FK8 (F) and the female chick was satellite tagged. The female juvenile successfully migrated to the Algarve region of Portugal and spent the winter there. In March she headed east to Spain, north of Gibraltar, and in April 2015 was in the Donana National Park.

The female Harriet stepped up to provide fish for the two young, and Lunar left on migration in late August. Another small scare when HArriet was thought to be wounded, arriving with blood on her leg, proved unfounded.

Breagha stopped 32 days in Loire region before migrating slowly through West Africa, travelled to Senegal/Guinea Bissau border nr Boukot Ouolof, later settling around Diantene and Elinkin in Senegal. 17 Jan 2014 LG report Oighrig (CF5) transmitter data shows no movement on 9/10 Jan, static at 10 km E of Toubakouta between the small towns of Simon Diene and Keur Mama Lamine, Senegal, bird presumed dead. Breagha stayed in Senegal until summer 2015 then migrated safely north, spending the summer back in the Loire region. After intermittent date, on 14 September his tracker showed no movement & he is now presumed dead
