- "At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Enjoying watching the ecosystem at work. 850k activations a day now!" Andy Rubin tweeted Clarified to reporters later that Google only counts activations once per device ID, bringing 300 million device activations to date.
- meeting with reporters: "12 million Android tablets sold thus far "not insignificant, but less than I'd expect it to be if you really want to win," and said that "2012 is going to be the year that we double down and make sure we're winning in that space." - He thinks consumers now think in terms of Apple, Microsoft, or Google ecosystems. Says devs have to do the work to write apps for Android tablets, they already do for iOS
- On Motorola: he "sponsored" the acquisition but now has "nothing to do with it.... I don't even know who's running it." Google has "literally built a firewall" between the Android team and Motorola. "I don't even know anything about their products, I haven't seen anything," he said. "They're going to continue building Motorola branded devices and it's going to be the same team doing it."
- "Even if I was completely insane, it wouldn't make any sense for me to think that we could get Motorola to be 90 plus percent marketshare," and compete with the huge field of Android vendors, he said. "It just isn't gonna happen."
- Home automation announced last May, not much since: "Google's been studying what consumers want from home automation and working up use cases." All devices connected in the cloud as single ecosystem.
-
- Google's now has a big bowl of jelly beans in the middle of its private meeting area.

In TNT 444 (at about 29:05), Darren Kitchen mentioned that a version of
Torbutton for Google does not yet exist. To expand on what he said, the
Tor Project is no longer developing Torbutton as a separate extension
for any browser because it's just too hard to track and patch all the
changes which send out identifying information in the general releases
of Firefox and Chrome. Instead, they recommend you install the Tor
Browser Bundle from the torproject.org site which contains Torbutton and
a separate version of Firefox called Aurora maintained by the Tor
Project. See

Hey TNT panel

Thought the caller who thought Microsoft office would be showcased at the iPad 3 was fascinating. However what would this mean for apple's iWork suite of apps on the iPad ? Currently they're among the top 10 grossing app on the app store. Would apple want to risk cannibalizing their own productivity apps?

Keep up the great work
Thanks guys

This episode of [show] is brought to you by Ford, featuring EcoBoost.
● EcoBoost is the engine technology from Ford that delivers the power of a larger
engine in a smaller one.
EcoBoost engine technology has helped make the seven-passenger Ford Explorer
Best-In-Class Highway Fuel Economy*. Here’s how Ford did it:
● Ford redesigned the conventional engine to meet fuel efficiency standards.
● Ford created EcoBoost engine technology by:
○ reducing the number of cylinders to improve efficiency, and
○ compensating for the loss in horsepower and torque through a
combination of technologies, including direct injection and turbocharging.
Here’s how it works:
● EcoBoost combines two technologies: direct injection (DI) and twin
turbocharging.
● DI produces a cooler, denser charge that generates more power per drop of fuel,
while the two small engine-cooled turbochargers spool up more quickly than a
single large turbo.
● Energy from the engine’s exhaust, which would otherwise be wasted, rotates
the turbine wheels. Each turbine is coupled to a compressor that pressurizes
incoming air, significantly increasing output per liter.
● You experience instantaneous low-end torque responsiveness with virtually no
turbo lag.
Look for the 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine on the 2012 Explorer and Edge. The 2013
Escape (coming Spring 2012) will offer 1.6 liter and 2.0 liter EcoBoost options.
You can learn more about this and other technologies Ford is bringing to its vehicles at
