GeneralCan I use the Relay recorder on my Mac?Yes! There are versions of the relay recorder for both PC and Mac. Just download and install the correct version from the Relay server.

.

GeneralCan I install the Relay recorder on all my computers, including ones at home? You can install the Recorder on as many computers as you wish and those computers can be located anywhere. You may have to get your local IT to install the client on a computer in your college office.

.

GeneralI want to record all or part of my lecture in my classroom, but the classroom computer won't let me install the recorder client. What can I do?You can either ask IT to install the client on the classroom workstation, or you can use the Portable Recorder which is placed onto a thumb drive and plugged into any computer. The recorder runs from the thumb drive and the recording is stored on the drive as well. You can upload the recording to the server when you get back to home or office to a computer where you have the regular recorder installed.

Can Camtasia now be accessed online? From our work or home computers? Or do we still need to use the
multimedia computers at the college?

Camtasia Relay can be used from anywhere. You download and install a recorder client that resides on your home or office computer. You can then record locally and send the recording to the server when you’re done. You can even record while you’re offline and the recording will upload automatically when you connect to the Internet.

Once the recording has uploaded, Relay will send you an email indicating that the presentation is ready for caption editing.  You then log into the Relay website and edit the voice-recognition produced captions that are already there.  They’re pretty inaccurate the first couple of times you use the system, but the voice-recognition learns from your editing pretty quickly.  Mine has gotten quite good by now.

.

Caption EditingDoes it matter which web browser I use when logging intro the Camtasia Relay website to edit captions? It may. We have had some problems with the Silverlight plugin (which runs the caption editor) when using Google Chrome on both PC's and Macs. On a PC, Internet Explorer is the best choice becuase both IE and Silverlight are Microsoft products and they work very well together. Firefox also seems to work quite well on both PCs and Macs.

.

ProductionCan I edit my Relay recording? You can trim the beginning and end of the recording to remove unwanted video and you can edit the captions that are produced via voice-recognition. No other editing is possible in Relay, You can, however, export your Relay recording to Camtasia Studio or Camtasia Mac and edit it there. There is a production profile available in your account for this purpose. Also, every other production profile now produces a Camtasia Studio recording (.camrec) by default, providing you with a download link to this files so you can open it in Camtasia Studio on a local computer.

.

RecordingDoes the PowerPoint Plug-in Work on a Mac?No; the PowerPoint Plug-in works only on Windows and only on 32-bit versions at that. You can still, of course, record narrated PowerPoint presentations on a Mac or 64-bit Wondows. You just have to bring up PowerPoint and use the normal recorder client in the usual way.

.

RecordingHow long may I make my presentation names? It's a good idea to keep them under about 100 characters (including spaces) . If they get too long, your URL's can get inconveniently long, and, if they're way too long, publishing them to online2 can fail because of a path-length limit.
