* This chart shows performance data for all proposed closing and receiving schools. Chicago Public Schools has promised to close schools only in
cases where it is able to send students to better performing schools. However, in 18 cases, the district is sending students from one Level 3 school to
another Level 3 school. In another 7 cases, it is sending students from Level 2 schools to Level 2 schools.

In 11 instances (20 percent of all grammar school closings), the receiving school either has lower composite ISAT scores or the two schools are
within a single point of each other.

In cases where the performance level is the same at the closing and receiving schools (Level 3 to Level 3 or Level 2 to Level 2), CPS
examines additional data: total performance points attained, composite ISAT score, value-added scores in both reading and math. If one school scores higher than another on a majority of those, it is determined by CPS to be a higher performing school.

Performance Levels are determined by the following for CPS elementary schools (seven of the eight factors are based on the state ISAT exam):

% meeting/exceeding standards on ISAT Reading
% meeting/exceeding standards on ISAT Mathematics
% meeting/exceeding standards on ISAT Science
% exceeding standards on ISAT Composite
% exceeding standards on ISAT Composite at the school’s highest grade level
Attendance rate
Value-Added reading, as calculated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison
Value-Added mathematics, as calculated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Source for all data is CPS. WBEZ calculated schools in top quartile using %meeting/exceedingn on ISAT composite.
