As of the beginning of April 2018, Nintendo has discontinued the Streetpass Relay system - which has effectively killed HomePass in its' current state. If any further developments are made to the HomePass system (e.g. some sort of Homebrew version), then this sheet will be updated to reflect those changes. But for now it is a sad farewell to one of the best updates Nintendo released for the 3DS. It's been a fun 5 years - so long and thanks for all the passes! <-- Important!

FAQ
29
Q:What is HomePass?
30
A:HomePass is a homebrew method of fooling your 3DS system into believing a Global StreetPass Relay exists in your house. Nintendo released an update to the 3DS StreetPass system in the beginning of August 2013, that would allow users to receive and transmit StreetPass data via Nintendo Zone Wifi Access Points. Nintendo calls this new system "StreetPass Relay". Over at GBATemp.net, great minds came together and figured out how to utilize your home WiFi Router/Access Point as a Nintendo Zone StreetPass Relay -- but not just a local one, a GLOBAL relay. You will be able to StreetPass people from around the world. Want tons of streetpasses in a single day, without ever leaving the house? Read on :)
31
32
Q:I have no idea what I'm doing, or where to start. Where can I get help?
33
A:If this document doesn't contain the answers you need -- scroll down to the "NOTES" section, and read through the three threads listed. It's alot to digest, but should help you get a better grasp of what to do, or how to do it.
34
35
Q:Should I use a specific SSID?<-- IMPORTANT!!
36
A:YES - it has been tested that using a specific SSID does in fact matter. As of November 2016 (11.1 firmware), please use the SSIDs "attwifi" or "Nintendo_Zone1" for the sake of compatibility. Some AP's are unable to enter underscores and/or spaces in their SSID's - in this case, please just use "attwifi". Please ONLY use "attwifi" or "Nintendo_Zone1" for all SSID uses.
37
38
Q:Well, which SSID should I use then? "attwifi" or "Nintendo_Zone1" ??
39
A:As of September 2016, firmware update 11.1 - "NZ@McD1" no longer is reporting to work - with some reports that "NZ@McD" is also not working. But "attwifi" and "Nintendo_Zone1" continue to work as Homepass relays - please use either of these SSIDs to continue using HomePass.
40
41
Q:Which MAC should I choose?
42
A:That's up to you - and what you want to do. Do you want lots of streetpasses? Then cycle through all of the MAC's. If you want to just choose "ONE" mac to keep your router on, then choose one that relates to the game you're most interested in trading data on. (i.e. Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, etc.)
43
44
Q:I've only received one StreetPass on XYZ MAC address in the last few hours. Why am I not getting lots of hits?
45
A:There is an 8 hour cooldown on each MAC with your 3DS. When you receive a StreetPass on one of the MAC's above, you can't receive another StreetPass for 8 hours. Switch MAC's to continue receiving more. Once you've exhausted the list, come back in 8 hours and cycle through again.
46
47
Q:I just want to use one MAC, and not mess around with cycling. Which should I use?
48
A:I suggest you use the Preferred Prime MAC -- 4E:53:50:4F:4F:46 --- but remember, you'll only receive a new StreetPass every 8 hours.
49
50
Q:How do I configure my phone/router/Windows/Linux system to do this? I'm new to this.
51
A:Check out the Tutorials at the bottom of this spreadsheet, that should help out. Or visit the GBATemp Config thread to ask more specific questions related to your setup.
52
53
Q:I don't want to leave my router wide open without security. What should I do?
54
A:Simple. Setup MAC filtering on your router, and have it only allow the MAC for your 3DS. That way no other device can connect to your "Nintendo Zone" relay. This also means anyone walking by with a 3DS will not be able to connect to it either. **WARNING** If you live in a highly populated area, it's very easy to spoof MAC addresses. MAC filtering is not a foolproof method of security by any means. Use MAC filtering security at your own risk! NOTE: You'll need to connect to the router w/ a wired connection to configure it and change the whitelist. ALSO -- it has been mentioned/noted that you can just set up WPA2 PSK security with a password. HomePass/Streetpass still works, but it will not see it as a Nintendo Zone.
55
56
Q:I don't own any of these devices, but would like to start a HomePass network at home. What should I get?
57
A:Easy! Check out the "Hardware" tab/sheet at the bottom of this spreadsheet. Just click on it and there will be a listing of various devices you can purchase.
58
59
Q:I can't spend any $$, AND I don't own any of these devices. Is there any hope for me?
60
A:Yep. There is. You need the MAC address of the Wireless Router/AP you connect to with your 3DS. Then jump to the "Personal MAC" tab/sheet at the bottom, and post your wireless router's MAC address as a comment on the sheet (right click on a cell, Insert Comment - I think you need a Google account though). I will then add your MAC for people to cycle through. You should get a single StreetPass every 8 hours on your home Wireless AP. Not as fast as most here, but better than nothing!

PLEASE NOTE: These tutorials are not "one-size-fits-all" and your results will vary. Some people have had success with these guides, and some have had zero success (or worse). Please be careful when using these guides. It helps to have some technical know-how when working with these tutorials. You may have better success Googling and finding a guide for your specific device and situation.
