Petition to close St. Charles Road at Klein Creek in Carol Stream
St. Charles Road is a two-lane road that crosses over Klein Creek via a culvert. Approximately 5,700 vehicles travel over the culvert daily.
The new Great Western Trail collector parallels Klein Creek to the east, and crosses St. Charles Road via a crosswalk. Because of the high speeds of cars at this point (40-45 mph), this crossing can be dangerous to trail users.
Carol Stream Bikes believes that removal of the culvert over Klein Creek, and replacing it with two cul-de-sacs on either side, will accomplish multiple beneficial goals:
1.) It will provide safer access to the Great Western Trail for residents of Carol Stream
2.) It will save taxpayer dollars, as future culvert replacements will not be necessary.
3.) Employees and owners of businesses on either side of the creek will contend with less traffic as their vehicles turn in and out of their businesses.
4.) This portion of Klein Creek would be restored to a more natural state.
This petition is to ask that the DuPage County Division of Transportation, the entity that maintains this portion of St. Charles Road, look into removing the culvert as soon as possible, to reap these benefits.
