Kumara Parvatha is a mountain located in Subramanya (village) of Sullia taluka, Karnataka. The village is known for
the Hindu Kukke Subramanya Temple. In spite of being a small village, it is a well-known shrine, and draws large number
of devotees throughout the year. The peak is at a height of about 1712m, and is about 13 km from the temple. This
mountain is on the border between Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts, so the lights of Somwarpet town in Kodagu
can be seen from the peak.
This mountain is very popular among the trekkers of southern part of India especially those of Bangalore, Mangalore
and Mysore. Its the 3rd highest peak in Karnataka standing at an approximate altitude of 1720mts. We will be starting
our trek from Somwarpet a small town on the Bangalore - Mangalore national highway about 250 km from Bangalore and
exit at Kukke-Subramanya. This place is well known for Snakes, especially King Cobras, abundant in the dense forests
covering this region of western ghats.
The first stage of the trek goes through a densely covered forest which takes about two to three hours of walking.
This stretch is infested by leeches and snakes. The forest opens up into a grass-covered ridge around the mid-way
point of trek. We reach the forest office check post where the trekkers need to register. There are two observation
platforms between the bhattara mane and the mantapa. The ascent from here is gradual and the mountain face is
covered with thick green grass. This trail culminates near the top of the mountain which is covered with thick forest.
The trek path becomes somewhat lost in the vegetation near the mountain top. About thirty minutes of walking
through brooks and bushes leads...and a final climb over a huge slippery rock to reach Kumara Parvatha.

Selection of participants
Short listing of the participants will be based on a number of factors including the required physical fitness
level for the given trip/ trek difficulty, the attitude and contribution/volunteering demonstrated during previous
treks in CTC, the availability of transportation, the max group size, organizers feedback etc. Note: Selection
rights reserved and completely based on organizers feedback.
Max group Size
The Max group size for this trek is 22 only including the organisers. We are looking at 15 trekkers from Chennai
and 7 from Bangalore.
Fitness to trek
In many of our past treks we end up with people who are unable to keep up with the group, who eventually
end up dragging behind the entire group as we cannot drop them in the middle of nowhere. Many are
extremely confident about their own fitness level but when confronted with rough terrain, no trail, boulders,
climbing uphill with a heavy backpack in a rough climate quickly find out they seriously underestimated
the treks we do in CTC.
Everyone is welcome in CTC but please do join the right level of trek that match your fitness. Please do not
take moderate treks lightly. If you are not entirely sure about your fitness then please sign up for easy treks
or get into the habit of jogging and walking regularly to prepare yourself for such treks.
Dropout policy
CTC maintains a BLACKLIST policy against people who drop out without informing the organizers.
In case of any emergencies, people droping out after confirming their participation, will have to pay the trek
charges in case transportation and other expenses towards the trek have already been paid for.

http://groups.google.co.in/group/sachennaitrekkingclub/web/do-s-and-dont-s-during-a-trek?hl=en-GB&pli=1 CTC strongly discourages the following people to participate in its treks:
1. People who do not contribute/volunteer in any way (CTC is a non-profit organisation, run solely based on
volunteers efforts).
2. People registering quickly and dropping out in the last few days (many aspects of a trek are arranged in
advance based on the headcount).
3. People who show "attitude" (we welcome only those with selfless attitude who get along well with and
provide a comfort level to others in the group).
4. People who litter (anyone throwing plastics, bottles, ... is not welcome in CTC)
