Training Explanations
50
Lab SpecificLaboratory Specific Safety Orientation: Laboratory employees who perform any laboratory operations within academic, clinical, or research laboratories and who may receive or be exposed to hazardous chemicals while performing their duties. The Principal Investigator or laboratory supervisor must provide laboratory specific safety training relative to the specific hazards associated in their laboratory (i.e. chemicals and equipment). Initially upon hire and prior to assignments involving new hazard exposure situations.
51
FIREFire Safety & Prevention: Required for all ASU employees. Note: Exceptions may be made by the ASU Fire Marshall for locations where portable fire extinguishers are not available. Initially upon hire and then a refresher annually thereafter. "FIREWEB" is the (new) Blackboard version.
52
LABSAFELaboratory Safety: Laboratory employees engaged in the use of hazardous chemicals while performing any laboratory operations in any laboratory used for scientific experimentation, research, or education. Initially upon hire and then a refresher annually thereafter.
53
BIOSAFEBiosafety & Bloodborne Pathogens: Employees who perform any laboratory operations within academic, clinical, or research laboratories involving infectious agents or potentially infectious material including blood, tissues, and cell lines. This course satisfies the Bloodborne Pathogens training requirement as well as the Biosafety requirement. Initially upon hire and then a refresher annually thereafter.
54
HAZWASTEHazardous Waste Management: Employees who work in labs that have chemicals of any kind and generate chemical, biological or radiological waste from their research or laboratory operations. Initially upon hire, prior to working in a laboratory environment, and before preparing hazwaste for pick-up.
55
NIHrDNAWEBNIH Guidelines -Recombinant DNA Training: The NIH developed the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules as a comprehensive set of rules for the use of recombinant DNA. One component of these rules is a requirement to ensure all personnel working with recombinant DNA are properly trained. The Biosafety group in EH&S has developed a training in Blackboard called "NIH Guidelines" to help meet this requirement. As need determines.
56
CGASOVERVIEWCompressed Gas Overview: This course on compressed gas is intended for anyone interacting with compressed gas cylinders. Required for ASU employees who work in a laboratory and physically handle or install compressed gas cylinders or compressed gas piping systems.
57
AUTOCLAVE
58
DRYICEASU Guide to Shipping Dry Ice: Federal rules require that anyone wishing to ship dry ice must first have shipping training. If you are going to package dry ice for shipment or sign any type of shipping documentation (such as a FedEx Airbill) for a dry ice shipment, you must follow the training certification requirements. Must complete and submit EH&S Intent to Ship Dry Ice form.
