| 1/11/2013 13:42:51 | Sam Wisneski | I am curious to know how many books are actually checked out because I think there is a lot of wasted bookshelf space, that could be used for more tables. I have never seen a book checked out before so if we could get rid of some shelves we could have more space.
| 1/11/2013 13:43:54 | Sam Wisneski | A cart or wall of Kindles or some kind of book reading device that we could check out would save a lot of space by getting rid of book shelves, this would also be very convienant for students to read.
| 1/11/2013 13:48:01 | Jenna Smarzinski | i feel like a coffee shop or something like that would be nice to have in the library to get a "book store" feel to it. Also, i think an area for people to just go and talk or socialize would be nice yet not distract other people who want to study. An idea i have is to make the librarian room behind the desk the new quiet study becasue it is already blocked off with walls to keep the noise out and then make the old quiet study a lounge room.
| 1/11/2013 13:51:47 | Sam Wisneski | I feel like the resource computers that you use to find a book aren't necessary because there are only a couple shelves of books and it is pretty easy to find on your own.
| 1/11/2013 13:59:10 | Kyle Bellin | Move the shelves and rearrange them so you can hopefully make it take up less space. So then you can add more tables to do work on. Possible eliminate the rack of magazines to free up more space.
| 1/11/2013 13:59:12 | Brad Ludwig | I think that the book shelves could all be moved to one area. This would open more area for more tables. Also we could take out some of the books that aren't very popular with intensions to eliminate a book shelf or two.
| 1/11/2013 14:01:11 | jenna Smarzinski | i agree with the idea of having kindles or tablets of some kind instead of the magazine booths that take up space in the library. also, new books that students will actually read would be nice too because even though we get new books, some of them are not interesting and dont get checked out by students. i also think food and drinks should be allowed in the library because many people eat in there already and some people like to eat or drink while they read or study.
| 1/11/2013 14:02:43 | Claire Diamond | coffee shop, second level, more color, less stiff, smell like coffee, allow food and drinks, christmas lights, quiet jazz music in background, fire place, quiet small rooms for learning. it would be nice to have a different space entirely for books. multi colored chairs gummy bear chandalier aquarium air hockey | tvs, cool idea and may work in the future but not the most important thing to be concerned of at this point.
| 1/11/2013 14:02:51 | Kennedy | I think that the LMC should be more of a relaxing place. I think it is a stiff room and it is too formal of a room. There can be rules for the quiet areas and with the books, but I think there are a lot of rules and also it isnt very comfortable. It is already a socializing area so I think if we make it a nicer place then people will enjoy it more. I also think food should be allowed. Also I think the quiet areas should be off to the side and maybe make them like the band practice rooms. Then it is quiet and private. Another idea is to just get rid of the computers to look for books. They are a waste of space in the center of the room, and if you really need help finding a book you can ask someone. The magazines probably could be removed because I dont see anyone using them. Also an aquarium would be fun. | I think tvs and music shouldnt be in the LMC. tvs will have to be turned down so there isnt really any point. Especailly because remotes would get lost so you couldnt really change the channel. Also with the music idea I think kids would fight over what was being played and I dont think it would work.
| 1/11/2013 14:03:32 | Kayla Murray | 1.Coffee shop 2.more colors/playful atmosphere 3.secluded quiet study seperate from other part of the LMC, being told to 4.be quiet doesnt help. 5.Food and drinks allowed, not by the computers 6.comfy chairs, rolly chairs, yoga balls 7.music 8.different layout so that the books were all together, social spots were together and quiet studies were together. 9.second level 10.More decorations 11. board or card games for quieter, social activities 12. get rid of magazines and the random 6 chairs | 1.tvs, not everyone likes the same shows, it could be disturbing
| 1/11/2013 14:04:10 | Alexa Kickland | 1. Smaller study room 2. More comforable chairs 3. Easier access to computers Ex:) Kindles, electronics 4. More comfortable hangout area 5. Less rules 6. Half comfortable half study 7. Up to date electronics Ex:) laptops 8. Starbucks 9. Link Crew can teach kids how to use the resources at schoool | 1. Some kids may take advantege of the food and drink allowed in the library 2. The library may turn into more of a socialize area rather than a area for studying and school related things
| 1/11/2013 14:06:24 | jenna smarzinski | i think in the new lounge area, we could have couches, bean bags, or just other comfy chairs to sit on and in that area, we could have tvs so students can watch shows they like or even movies if they have time after school or if they have a block off or even during lunch if they just want to watch a movie. Then, this area can go where the current quiet area is and then the room that is blocked off where students take tests can be the new quiet area because the room is blocked off by walls and doors so the noise from the other people and areas in the library.
| 1/11/2013 14:06:46 | Collin Evers | I think the main purposes of the LMC are socializing, studying/doing homework, and researching. All of these things only require computers or other electronic devices with internet connection, tables, and space. I think bookshelves are taking up too much space and that more computers or maybe even tablets should be available. I personally have checked out 1 book in my 1 and a half years here and that was only because I had to read a fiction book for English class. Basically, There should be more space for tables, more technology, and book (ECSPECIALLY non-fiction) are rather pointless. I think almost all students get most of there research from the internet now or class issued textbooks that are in classrooms, not the LMC. I also would like to point out that I like having outlets in the LMC like they added this year. | I think allowing drinks in the LMC is a little too risky considering that if we want more space and technology in the LMC, drinks are very likely to spill on tables and floors or on electronics. I think allowing food is fine considering most foods that students would actually be able to carrry around with them and into the library aren't typically messy.
| 1/11/2013 14:07:04 | Elle Reber | 1.) More tables 2.) Different sections for socializing vs. actual school work 3.) One or two computers set up just for people who need to print things off 4.) A coffee shop would be nice 5.) More of a place to hang out rather than a place to sit on hard chairs and talk 6.) Change the quiet learning center into more of a conference room so it's seperate from the rest of the library because it makes the library less comfortable 7.) Rearrange the library/ minimize the stuff that people don't really use 8.) It would be useful to have tablets and things to check out from the library 9.) Allow food and drink if we can prove that we can be responsible 10.) Paint the walls or something to make it less stuffy and clean looking or just give it a general makover so that it looks less like a library 11.) More electronic resources to check out instead of just print 12.) Changing the name to something less learning oriented might get more people to use it
| 1/11/2013 14:07:28 | Kimberly Theisen | 1. More tables for studying or doing homework 2. Different sections for socializing vs doing school work 3. Coffee shop like Starbucks 4. Have tablets for people to check out 5. Allow food and drinks but only if students prove they can respect the LMC 6. Paint the walls to make the LMC more warm and welcoming
| 1/11/2013 14:07:50 | Haley | *condense book shelves for more space *lounge area with comfy chairs (like JRG) *coffee shop *make "quiet area" smaller *paint walls *open library hours later at night or "reopen" (certain nights) *educating on new technologies (link crew?) *food in library (concern: disrespectful students) *more resources like tablets that can be checked out
| 1/11/2013 14:07:59 | Carli Johnson | Group conference quiet rooms-have librarian regulate it More places to sit More condensed book space Coffee shop Have it be open later at night like a college library so kids could come back to a quiet place, with resources, to study and do homework. Informational sessions on how to use the materials More tutoring opportunities. Student run? Volunteer opportunities? | I think the food is a sketchy idea because of the litter aspect and we don't want the librarians to have to be responsible for that mess.
| 1/11/2013 14:08:43 | jenna smarzinski | maybe they can extend the library onto the patio and have a door going to the patio from the library and then have benches and chairs out on the patio so during the spring and summer or when its nice out, students can go onto the patio to read outside
| 1/11/2013 14:09:48 | Colin Englebert | Utilize the quiet area differently, maybe put books. Shelfs on wall instead of large units. See if we could have books in the back because no one goes into the library and looks through books. They use the database to see what they can check out so i dont think we neccessarly have to display them. if we put them in the back we could still have our books but have the lirbraian get it for us or have them allow us access to the room of books. I just feel that no one looks for books without knowing what they want or looking on the computers first. it would save space and allow kids to check out books. Allow food, with priveliges comes responsibility
| 1/11/2013 14:09:56 | Kyle Uitenbroek | get rid of books and get kindles loft with tvs and bean bag chairs food allowed area shelves on walls instead of big shelves door directly from library to outside
| 1/11/2013 14:10:01 | Brandon | Possible tutoring for other subjects During the week, 1-2 nights library open later. Take out unneeded magazines
| 1/11/2013 14:10:05 | Eric Zake | replace books with kindles Loft on top filled with lounge chairs and a couple tvs food allowed area
| 1/11/2013 14:10:16 | Leland Raymond | When the shelves are taken out from all the useless books, make a socializing space where people can hang out. Put bean bag chairs, tvs, and anything else that's fun.
