VACATION SOUVENIER INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO (VSIP PLAN)
2
Back in 2011 during one of our family vacations to Walt Disney World, I decided when standing in the middle of the World of Disney store that instead of buying the usual gadgets and gizmos, I would pick up shares of common stock in the Walt Disney Company, creating an on-going academic experiment as a way to not only demonstrate the power of compounding, but serve as a teaching tool to my future children and grandchildren. I continued this tradition the next year. On Wednesday, April 24th, 2013, I decided that I was going to expand the program to include non-Disney vacations. Whenever we travel somewhere, I am going to pick up shares of companies related to the trip or that reminds me of the experience (think of it as an investor's version of a scrapbook).

Reserve:$6,818.71We normally buy 100 shares of Disney but since 5/16/14 was a short weekend trip,
32
we only picked up 15 shares. Instead, I'll take the monetary equivalent of
33
what we didn't spend for those 85 shares ($6,818.71) and put them into reserve
34
I can use to allocate to the VSIP any time I find something I want to buy for it,
35
even if that means adding more Disney shares at a time in the future when we didn't
36
visit one of the parks. I may even do something else, like buy shares of Coca-Cola
37
with the money. It may be 24 hours, it may be 2 years, but at some point, those
38
funds will be put to work in a way I think intelligent.
